WTF/WTH Wednesdays – Wake Up GOP!!!

GOP it’s time to tell your party to STOP the frivolous lawsuits against the new Health Care legislation. The mandate of everyone purchasing Health Insurance is legal and covered by the Commerce Clause along with the Necessary and Proper Clause. These lawsuits are a waste of time and tax dollars; the various Republican state attorney generals and governors are pulling political stunts on the taxpayer’s dime.

While states are going broke you have Republican attorney generals and governors acting like a bunch of babies. In Georgia a Republican governor wants to impeach the Democrat attorney general for not pursuing a lawsuit against the Health Care legislation. Where has all the common sense gone? Republicans will continue to FAIL if they don’t start focusing on jobs and fiscal responsibility.

The GOP latest behavior is only part of the overall systemic problem facing this country.

That’s right; I want the Republicans to be good at something! Yes it is fun to laugh at the scandals of the RNCC and Michael Steele but the fact remains that Democrats cannot turn around this terrible economy by themselves. There are some very smart people on the Republican side of the aisle; the likes of Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan have bright futures ahead of them. If Republicans like Cantor and Ryan can get away from the ideology of being the party of “NO” America will be better suited to turn this mess around.

The GOP needs to stop being SORE LOSERS!!!

The nasty rhetoric by John McCain needs to stop. He recently stated, “There will be no cooperation for the rest of the year. They (Democrats) have poisoned the well in what they’ve done and how they’ve done it.”

C’mon Son! Your like 90 years old, stop acting like a kid who didn’t get his way and now taking his ball and going home.

The United States of America is not Liberal or Conservative. The majority of this country is Moderate; I am Liberal in many of my social views but I do believe in being a fiscal Conservative. Having those view points creates balance; it’s this balance which the country is sorely missing right now!!

Let’s REALLY be about…….

Talking Points Tuesdays – Barry got his Swagger..

After a year-long battle of pushing Health Care Reform (HCR) and taking all the bumps and bruises being dished out by the Republican Party. On January 19th it seemed as if all the Hope and Change promised by President Barack Obama was all but lost, on this day Scott Brown (a Republican) won the special election in Massachusetts. How could this happen? How could Democrats lose the seat once owned by Teddy Kennedy? With that loss the Democrats lost their Super Majority and seemingly lost the political weight they had. Republicans celebrated, Democrats pointed fingers at each other and pundits talked about HCR being dead and Democrats having to find their course once again. That night the country supposedly spoke and the country was telling the Democrats Fall Back!

I remember sitting there thinking this is the President’s moment and he needs to step-in and take control of the Democratic Party and right the course. The next day President Obama stepped up and set a new course for his administration, he made it known immediately he was not giving up on HCR. Obama went against many of his advisors and decided to take the Republicans head on concerning HCR. He attended the House Republicans retreat and successfully challenged their mis-information campaign. As Republicans continued to ride the coat-tails of Scott Brown’s victory, the President pushed forward hitting the streets talking straight to the people. Not from the White House but in the people’s backyards, holding rallies reminiscent of the campaign trail. Slowly but surely Obama started to regain that energy wave he rode into the White House; but that wasn’t enough. The President needed another stage to show he would not back down in the face of the Republicans; that stage would be the HCR Summit at Blair House. In a room full of Democrats and Republicans Obama was able to dictate the flow and impose his will.

At the HCR Summit Obama displayed the power of the presidency; in a very subtly way the President referred to each Senator and Representative (Democrat and Republican) by their first names; John (McCain), Mitch (McConnell), John (Boehner) etc…. Meanwhile each Senator and Representative referred to Obama as Mr. President. Again, this was very subtle but very critical in making sure everyone knew who was in charge. Obama walked away from the HCR Summit with another win while acknowledging there were very good ideas by Republicans and they would be incorporated in his HCR bill.

At this point the rest is history as HCR passed and is now law and the President is back on his grind!!!!

Photobucket

Since the HCR Summit the party of “NO” aka Republicans have seen some in their party vote in favor of bills supported by the President. It wasn’t that long ago when that would have never happened, for example some Republicans supported a Jobs Bill (including Scott Brown). When the HCR bill passed the House Republicans vowed to derail the Reconciliation process in the Senate, no matter how long it took. Well, Republicans only lasted a couple of days and folded as the HCR fixes were signed into law. Where is Boehner’s aka “Tan Man” tough talk???

Once the President won the battle of HCR he regained his SWAGGER; we have all seen the you-tube clip of then candidate Obama talking about brushing his shoulder off:

Well now it looks like President Obama’s iPod is bumping “Swagga Like Us”. Barack aka Barry got his Swagger back!!

You know I remember Tavis Smiley saying something very interesting during a book signing. He said, “You can’t govern like you campaign….”. Meaning, when on the campaign trail you’re trying to please everyone and win a popularity contest. When you govern there are times when you will not be popular and you have to be ok with that. It seems as if the President has learned that in the start of his 2nd year. We should see lessons learned from the HCR debate as the President looks to push Regulatory Reform through. The President will look for Republican support but if it is not there he will not wait, he has momentum on his side and he cannot give it up.

The President has put the Republican party on notice; either support the Regulatory Reform or be seen siding with Big Banks. Oh yeah, if Republicans want to run their November 2010 election campaigns on “Repealing HCR”, as the President stated, “GO FOR IT!!”

Militant Mondays – Donovan McNabb

Photobucket

As a New York Giants fan I will try my best to be as unbiased as I can when it comes to talking about the Philadelphia Eagles; I will try! In the past couple of days I have read/watched several reports of the Eagles looking to trade away their most valuable asset in McNabb. When you look at what McNabb has done for the Eagles you have to wonder why?

– NFC East division championships (2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004)
– Five NFC Championship Games (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2008)
– Super Bowl (Super Bowl XXXIX, in which the Eagles were defeated by the New England Patriots)
– 6 time Pro Bowl selection (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009)
– 2004 NFC Offensive Player of the Year

** Eagles’ all-time leader in career wins, pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.

McNabb has put up most of these numbers with at best average offensive weapons. Again I ask the question why are the Eagles looking to trade him. Maybe because since the day he was drafted by the Eagles their fans have not always been on board with McNabb. He was infamously booed on draft day back in 1999 by rabid Eagles fans who wanted Ricky Williams, I ask you Eagles fans how did that work out? Hmmm, Ricky Williams is a role player in the Dolphins Wildcat and has been suspended twice for drug abuse.

The knock against McNabb during his Eagles career has been injuries and his inability to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl win, but it’s not all his fault. Throughout most of his career his best offensive weapon was a talented receiving running back in Brian Westbrook, no knock against Westbrook but he has been just as if not more injury prone as McNabb in his career. Each time McNabb has suffered an injury, he has come back strong and led the Eagles. Before Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin the Eagles best receiver was Terrell Owens and it just so happens that it was the McNabb and T.O. show that pushed the Eagles to the Super Bowl; McNabb can’t do it all by himself! It takes leadership and talent; 2 attributes McNabb has used to push the Eagles to the success they have seen during his career.

So what’s up with the disrespect we are seeing towards McNabb this offseason as he is being openly shopped around. This is the same guy who played on a broken ankle and pushed the Eagles to a victory during a regular season game. The same guy who has taken the abuse of the ignorant fans and still loves playing in Philly and wants to stay with a team that doesn’t seem to want him. This is not Allen Iverson, McNabb has been a standout citizen in Philly; SO WHY THE DISRESPECT IN PHILLY??

I hate to say it but you can’t help but think it could be about race; but you know what I will not go there! Instead let’s look at other QBs like Elway and Marino; in Elway you had a QB who lost 3 Super Bowls early in his career but yet he still remained with the Broncos and even though he had issues with Dan Reeves he was never shopped around like McNabb (at least not publicly). The Broncos patience paid off as Elway eventually led them to Super Bowl victories. Then you look at Marino and you have a QB who went to one Super Bowl and lost; he put up record-breaking numbers but never a Super Bowl as he always remained a beloved figure in Miami. It seems like just about every year McNabb has to deal with a Mike McMahon, Jeff Garcia, AJ Feely or Kevin Kolb. And every year McNabb shows up and puts in his work dragging the Eagles to the playoffs.

Then you look at Philip Rivers, his numbers are impressive but he has yet to make it to a Super Bowl but in San Diego and throughout the league he is looked at as a “Gamer”/”Gutsy” player…. He is celebrated for being the leader of the Chargers and pushing that team to the playoffs. So what’s the difference between McNabb, Elway, Marino and Rivers?

RACE!?!? As I said earlier I refuse to go there, the real difference between McNabb and those other QBs is management and fans! That’s right, fat ass Andy Reid and management have found their goat in McNabb. Reid and the Eagles organization will continue to sell the idea of trading McNabb and use the anger of their dumbass fans. Let me quickly say that not all Philly fans are dumb but 99% of them are asses, HAHA!!!

Knowing that the fans have never been truly in love with McNabb, Reid will take the focus off of his flawed offensive play-calling during the playoffs to save his Philly cheese steak over-eating ass!

Eagles fans WAKE UP, and recognize what you have in McNabb. QBs are hard to come by, for once don’t be what you have always been….

Guest Blogger: Let’s go Blue, not Rogue…

I like to introduce my first guest blogger, Jessica V. She reps Houston, Texas aka “H-town”, show her some love!!

Do you remember where you were, what you were doing, what exactly was happening the moment you realized you were a true blue blooded Democrat? For some it may have been the day you heard Senator John F. Kennedy announce his candidacy for president. For others, the realness and compassion of Jimmy Carter may have won you over, and for a younger generation Bill Clinton’s absolute refusal to back down in the face of criticism and his deep dedication to the American people may have been the push that brought you over the edge. Then, there are those of you who fall into none of these groups, your age, gender, race, religion, and social status vary greatly, but there is one thing you have in common. You became a Democrat the day Senator Barack Obama stood where Abraham Lincoln stood a hundred and fifty years before, and announced that he would seek the Democratic nomination for the 2008 presidential election. Whenever the moment was and whatever was happening around you, you felt something, something moved inside of you, and you would be forever changed.

Is that not the story of The Democratic Party? We are a party that is built around ensuring equality of all men, helping our brother when he is down, and making change where change is needed! People become Democrats under inspirational circumstances. Someone inspires them, moves them, makes them cry, and they then find their place in a party that has enough room for everyone but still feel likes a small, close-knit family at the end of the day. Is that not what you felt on November 4, 2008 as you watched Barack Obama accept the presidency of this great country? Is it not what you felt that cold day in January when he was sworn into office and spoke words that gave people around the world goose bumps and brought many to tears? Well, it is what I felt, I was so proud to be a member of a party that looks out for one another, and truly understands people, and more importantly truly cares about their well-being. The Democrat inside of me was reborn, and I was ready to get to work, and begin changing things!

AND, now here I am, one year and two months later, and I am at a total standstill. I don’t think I need to run down the list of what we have not accomplished; instead I want to take a stab at why so many things are still wrong. I am completely disgusted when I see my fellow Dems pointing fingers at the president and saying “he just hasn’t gotten enough done for progressives!” Let’s be real folks! Things haven’t gotten done because we as a party have not gotten them done!! It was a Democrat named Ben Nelson that was keeping us from getting the healthcare bill passed a few months ago, and more importantly it was Democrats like Max Baucus, Blanche Lincoln, and Kent Conrad who prevented the American people from having the public option this country so desperately needs. Therefore, who is really to blame? The president cannot be held solely responsible for what has or has not happened since he has taken office; his own party has played a great role in holding him back.

So what now? Do we just give up like they so desperately want us to? Do we turn and put our nose in the corner they have backed us into, and just call it quits? Are we as Democrats really going to let the GOP run us off? It’s time to get moving people! Our own party is leaving the man who caused us such inspiration just two years ago out in the middle of the ocean with no life-preserver. What are we doing?? The ridiculous bickering in the party and conflict over the smallest of things is giving the Republicans just what they want. They are sitting back laughing at us as we completely fall apart right under their microscope. We have fallen right into their game, and in case you haven’t noticed we are approaching the finish line rapidly, and the only thing at that line is a huge sign that says “YOU LOST”. It’s not too late, we can still turn this around, but it has to be done now. As a party we have got to stick together, even at times when we may not agree whole heartedly with our fellow Dems. This is not the time for compromise within our own party, this is the time for pushing through what we promised the American people in a united front. If this does not happen in the next couple of months, I am afraid Michael Moore is right. We will be headed for “the butt whipping of our lives” come November.

Free Flowing – Fake Memos….

So this is what it has come to, Republicans using a fake memo of Democrat Talking Points to derail Health Care Reform (HCR). This fake memo details what Democrats should talk about and focus on while giving interviews or making appearances concerning HCR. The memo attempts to protrait Democrats as liars who are trying to dupe Americans into supporting HCR.

Republicans at this point are desperate and they are beginning to realize the mistake they made in not being part of what will be history. After a year of obstruction Republicans have gained nothing; and leading up to the vote to pass the Senate version of HCR they have resorted to fake memos.

Desperate times calls for desperate measures and that was clearly evident when Representative Scott Garret (R-NJ) read the fake memo on the floor of the House of Representatives. Big mistake Rep Garret, did he really think his little show was going to be unchallenged (should have read my post Takeover Thursdays – Anthony Weiner). He must have been absent earlier this year when Rep Anthony Weiner from NY ripped Republicans for their phony ways. In front of everyone Weiner called out Garret and asked him to produce the source of the document, Garret was quiet.

If HCR is so bad for the people you shouldn’t have to lie to show that!

Check out the video of Rep Weiner doing what he does best:

F-A-Natic Fridays – No more Tiger news, just golf…

As announced earlier this week Tiger Woods will be returning to golf April 8th, his first event will be The Masters. Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia will be the back drop for the return of the baddest man on the golf course. This being his first event since his Big Pimpin ways was exposed; you can expect that there will be an extra buzz around Augusta.

Unfortunately for Tiger the buzz is not only about him returning to golf; as expected there will be a lot of talk of his cheating ways. I am not here to defend Tiger hollering at every chick that walks by. There is no defending that, but let’s be fair folks. The NY Daily News ran a story Thursday about how some in the Augusta are weary of him being around while others were looking forward to having Tiger around for The Masters.

So what exactly is bugging those who are “weary” of Tiger being around for The Masters? While reading the headline I figure people would have a problem with his cheating ways, instead the article started off with comments from a local dad who warned that Tiger Woods better stay away from his 12 and 16-year-old daughters. WTF, did I miss something? When did cheating on your wife (albeit with several women) equate to being a pedophile? Is the Daily News that hard up for readership that they would even entertain a comment like that? What makes it worse is that the article makes no attempt to point out that Tiger was never accused of sleeping with underage girls.

But it didn’t stop there, as I mentioned early there are people excited about Tiger’s return. Meet Sydney Balogh:

Photobucket

Nothing spectacular about this young lady, she is a 27-year-old stylist in the Augusta area that is excited to see Tiger Woods. Except this simple whore is not excited to see Tiger play golf, this chick is excited at the possibility of trying to date Tiger! Who is this chick? You can’t tell me this bum b**ch doesn’t know Tiger is still married; in her simple ass mind she thinks it’s cool to take a shot a married man who is has already been documented cheating on his wife and attending a sex clinic. In her world he is open game, it’s so cool that she doesn’t mind giving her full name so that she can be quoted in a newspaper. Not only that but this chick even took a pic for the article. Seriously, so we have a dumbass dad and a delusional whore, is there nothing else in the sports world going on? And it didn’t stop there as the article also noted some other dumbass chicks who work at a local area Hooters. These chicks displayed the same whore mentality as Sydney, except they stayed away from names and glamour shots.

I just don’t understand, the media continues to look for any Tiger news. On the real unless y’all got a story about how one of these side chicks is his having Tiger’s kid; dead this story. While your at it, stop giving this porn star Jocelyn James and her text messages any shine. Days after Tiger announces his return for The Master she wants to release sexy text messages, C’mon Son!

She’s using the media and these kats don’t even seem to mind, at this point I can’t tell who are the bigger whores this chick or the media.

I hope Tiger wins The Masters, and then during his press conference I would love to see him look around the room with all the cameras flashing; smile and give everyone the finger! Now that’s Tiger news I wouldn’t mind reading about!!

Takeover Thursdays – Almost there….

Photobucket

So after a year and a couple of months it appears that we ar in the home stretch. Health Care Reform (HCR) will be a reality for close to 30 million. This has been a long hard-fought battle that has taken its toll on President Obama and the Democrats in Congress, but the finish line is in sight. The official countdown starts now as the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released the scoring of the latest Health Care Reform bill. If you recall after the Health Care Summit at the Blair House President Obama added several key Republican points, so the numbers we heard previously concerning the cost of Health Care Reform could change ever so slightly. So what were the CBO findings?

The bill will cost $940 billion over the first 10 years and reduce the deficit by $130 billion during that period. In the second 10 years — so, 2020 to 2029 — it will reduce the deficit by $1.2 trillion. The legislation will cover 32 million Americans, or 95 percent of the legal population.

So what exactly happens once The House and Senate pass HCR and President Obama signs the legislation into law? This is a great question and to be honest before last night I could not answer that question, but thanks to Rachel Maddow and her show I have a better idea of what happens next. Please keep in mind the following is a representation of what the HCR bill looked like as of last night.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) releases the score of the HCR Bill ($1.2 Trillion in deficit savings over 20 years) Nancy Pelosi promised that she will delay the House from voting on the Senate version of the bill for 72 hours. She wants to give everyone a chance to review the legislation and understand any changes that were made. With the CBO releasing their scoring of the bill today, the House will more than likely vote on the bill either Sunday or Monday. In the past couple of days there has been some controversy surrounding a House tactic known as “Deem and Pass”. This is a maneuver that will allow the House to pass a bill without actually having a roll call vote on the legislation; it is technically known as a “self-executing rule.” A self-executing rule is essentially a two-for-one special; when the House votes to adopt a self-executing rule, it simultaneously adopts a separate bill or amendment, which is specified in the rule itself. In short, the House “deems” another bill to be passed as soon as it adopts the rule. I know it’s a little confusing; as of right now it has not been decided how the House will handle voting for the HCR Bill.

The legislation will then go back to the Senate to pass any fixes they will apply to the bill; hopefully it will be voted on by the Senate by Easter. Once the bill is passed by the Senate they will then send the bill to the President for final signature that will turn the legislation into law.

Within 90 days:

• The government will create High-Risks Pools that will provide people without health insurance due to pre-existing conditions with immediate to care.

Next 90 days:

• No child will be denied health coverage because of a pre-existing condition

• No longer can insurance companies apply Lifetime Limits on the dollar value on benefits (according to PricewaterhouseCoopers removing limits would reduce Medicaid costs by $1 billion per year)

• Insurance companies will be banned from rescinding coverage if you file a claim. Once you have insurance you will be covered. End of Rescission.

By 2011:

• Anyone with Medicare will be eligible for free annual Wellness visits

• Insurance companies will have to spend 80-85% of what you pay in premiums do towards actual medical care. If they do not spend 80-85% the insurance company will have to pay the difference back to the customer.

• There will be a review of any health insurance rates that are being raised. Insurance companies will have to announce potential rate hikes and submit the proposed raise in rates for review and justify that raise.

By 2014:

• Insurance companies will no longer be allowed to deny anyone coverage due to pre-existing conditions.

• The Insurance Exchange will provide an exchange for anyone without health insurance to shop for affordable insurance. This exchange will be created and maintained by the government. This setup will mimic what federal employees have access to.

• Insurance companies will no longer be able to apply Annual Limits on the dollar value on benefits (according to PricewaterhouseCoopers removing limits would reduce Medicaid costs by $1 billion per year).

Information is still pouring concerning the HCR bill; for example as I am writing this I just learned that the so-called Medicare “doughnut hole” will be closed this year. Medicare drug plans now stop paying for prescriptions each year once the government and the consumer have spent $2,830 on them. The benefit resumes once annual out-of-pocket spending reaches $4,550.The bill would close that so-called “doughnut hole.” This year, beneficiaries who hit the doughnut hole limit would get $250 rebates.

Hopefully this posting will help clear up some of the confusion associated with Health Care Reform. In the coming days you will hear a lot of information about the HCR bill; both negative and positive. Without a doubt this bill is not perfect and there still a lot of work to be done (Public Option); all I ask is that you keep yourself informed. It’s all about the facts and that goes for both Democrats and Republicans. Here are some sites you can visit to help separate fact from fiction; for example any conversation about this HCR bill creating Death Panels is absolutely absurd. If you don’t believe me look it up yourself:

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/

http://www.factcheck.org/

UPDATE:
President Obama will sign the HCR Bill before the Senate will review the fixes voted on by the House. It is expected the president will sign either 3/23/2010 or 3/24/2010. The Democrats in the Senate arehoping to pass the fixes tot he Senate version of HCR by the end of the week (3/26/2010). This could be dragged out until Easter.

WTF/WTH Wednesdays – Seton Hall Pirates

Photobucket

WTF is going on with Seton Hall?

How can so much controversy come out of such a little school?

In November of last year, Keon Lawrence a junior transfer was arrested and charge with assault by auto after driving the wrong way on the Garden State Parkway and causing a 2 car accident. Then on Tuesday Robert Mitchell was arrested for robbery, kidnapping, and possession of a weapon in Newark and this was after the coach kicked him off the team for criticizing the coach in the paper. This kat Mitchell and one other person apparently broke in someones home and duct-taped 8 people and robbed them for cash. As if that wasn’t enough Tuesday night during the Hall’s NIT game Herb Pope decided to punch a player from Texas Tech in the balls! Then as the curtain closed on this clamity for a finale Seton Hall gave coach Bobby Gonzalez his walking papers.

I guess “The Hall” was doing their best impersonation of “The U”!

Where the hell was Gonzalez recruiting these kats from, Rahway!

Who can you put the blame on when you this kind of nonsense is going on? Many times the coach is blamed for recruiting bad players but that would be too easy in this case. Everyone plays a part in this; so where do we start!

Well, you have to look at Gonzalez’s, he didn’t have the greatest reputation coming from Manhattan as his personality rubbed people the wrong way. Then his ability to recruit was questioned and that might explain the recent activity of his players. Beings college in the tri-state area there is a lot of competition for local talent and playing in the Big East doesn’t make it any easier. So it is quite possible Gonzalez feeling the pressure to win decided to lower the bar when it came to character; a player robbing and kidnapping people, another player punching opposing players in the nuts and on top of that 3 of his recruits for next year have not qualified academically. Damn, with all that said do we really have to continue?

To be fair Seton Hall’s administration shares some of the blame for this as well, they hired the guy to coach these young kats. He is a fiery guy that seemed to push the envelope. If all this happened I wonder what other sh*t the university covered up?

Finally, last but not least THE KIDS! When will these young kats grow the f**k up? I don’t want to make excuses for these kids as there are already too many out there already. You are given the opportunity to change your life but for whatever reason you prefer the BS instead of the possibility of earning a B.A.

Honestly I don’t have much else to say about this as no one wins. Robert Mitchell and Keon Lawrence will more than likely go to jail, Herb Pope will be a herb and Gonzalez will get a low budget job some where else.

The real loser in this might be Jeremy Hazell, an outstanding talent who could be lost in all this stupidty. Hopefully he will rise above it all, you know what; f**k it! Who am I kidding, leave school early Jeremy can’t be anything worse than being a Pirate!

Talking Points Tuesday – What else can we Tax?

Photobucket

Let me start by saying that this is not a complaint about being taxed too much. I firmly believe that as American citizens we have to do our part. Here are 2 examples of “doing our part”:

1. if the U.S. goes to war and it is a war I support than I believe we should be taxed to support that effort.

2. I believe in affordable Health Care for all, and I am for paying taxes to support that. The simple fact is we pay a hidden tax on this away. So why not pay that upfront.

With that said Governor Paterson and Mayor Bloomberg of NYC are supporting a “Soda Tax”; this tax would apply a penny-per-ounce tax on sweetened soda to help raise money for schools and healthcare, which translates to consumers paying about an extra 12 cents per can. It is said that this “Soda Tax” could potentially raise $1 billion a year! Now this is the type of taxation that would more than likely be supported by the masses. Soda is not the healthiest thing on this earth, especially Coca-Cola! You could clean an engine block with that stuff, lol! Like cigarettes there should be a lot of support for this kind of taxation, anything that will help you break bad habits is generally a good thing, right????

Here’s the problem, the over taxation of cigarettes and soft drinks and doing this in the name of GOOD HEALTH is a bunch of BS! I look at this type of taxation as taking advantage of people’s addiction; do you really think the government wants you to give up soft drinks if they can potentially make $1 billion dollars off your addicition?

Like I said in the beginning I am all for supporting good causes, but stop the games! Yes a residual effect of over taxing cigarettes and soda could decrease the number of stink breathe smokers and overweight fat kids who have been drinking soda since they were capable of holding a baby bottle. Whose to say it stop with cigarettes and soda? What’s next?

I know, let’s increase taxes on Soul Food, all that greasy food will lead to heart disease and excessive licking of your fingers. Better yet lets just legalize weed (which is a great idea) so that it can be taxed! Aint no way weed heads stopping that habit because of some silly tax. They pay whatever just as long as it was legalized (I will save the legalization of marijuana for another day)!

Governor Paterson and Mayor Bloomberg keep it real. When you all see a payoff of $1 billion dollars the last thing on your mind is overall health!

Militant Mondays – Textbook Wars…

For years Conservatives have complained that schools of Higher Learning were dominated by Liberal professors who poisoned the young minds of Americans with thoughts of America being bad and how Capitalism was a terrible economic and social system. Maybe I missed something but college was not a breeding ground for Liberal development. College provided an opportunity of “Higher Thought” and helped developed various views of intellectual thinking. On 2nd thought; intellectual though…. That sounds like something a Democrat would embrace while Conservatives like Sarah Palin dislike. At the Tea Party Nation Convention Sarah Palin made that perfectly clear when she stated, “We (United States) needed a Commander-In-Chief NOT a Professor of Law…” I guess that makes all the sense in the world, because intellects think too much; hmmmm….

So now we have our current political environment where Republicans feel as if they must save the country from Liberals aka Socialist and their terrible thoughts and ideas. The Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) which consists of a 10 Republicans and 5 Democrats have proposed what they (Republicans) would deem as minor changes to the type of language used in textbooks purchased by the state of Texas. The changes proposed and approved on March 12th are as follows:

Additions by SBOE include:

– The conservative resurgence of the 1980s and 1990s, including Phyllis Schlafly, the Contract With America, the Heritage Foundation, the Moral Majority and the National Rifle Association.

– Replacing the word “capitalism” with the term “free-enterprise system” because of concerns that “capitalism” had become more of a negative connotation

– The study of American Exceptionalism

– The inclusion of the study or increased focus on leaders from the Confederacy, including a side by side comparison of Jefferson Davis’s inaugural speech with Abraham Lincoln’s speech

The following SBOE chose to remove, not include or not make mandatory several other provisions such as:

I know what many of you are thinking; So What? That’s Texas, they are ass backwards country folks that will be stuck in the good old boys days. Except this is bigger than the Texas State Board of Education, Texas is the 2nd largest buyer of textbooks in the United States. California being the largest, but with Cali in such a bad economic state they will not be the #1 buyer this year and possible for the next several years. Again you all are probably still saying, SO WHAT?

Here is why we ALL need to be concerned; I never realized that the language in textbooks (used by most schools) that we used to study in school are influenced by the largest purchaser. I always thought there was a standard that every state followed, should have known better. Like everything else in this world the almight dollar drives production. The textbook industry cannot afford to ignore a market like Texas. When California held the title of #1 buyer looks like intellect was more of a focus instead of agenda. For example I read some where that there was one proposal to replace any mention of hip-hop with country music. Why can’t we have both genre of music mentioned? Bye Jay-Z and HELLO Kenny Chesney!!

Well now Republicans have seized the moment. They figured if we can’t change colleges from being so Liberal lets influence the minds of the young starting in middle school. Why not have more minds like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney etc… What kills me is that these were the same Republicans that were opposed to President Obama addressing kids on the first day of school fearing that he was going to use that address to influence kids. How is this any different? It’s not, except their influence will last more than a 5-10 minute video address!!

Trust that these changes have the full support of the Republican Party; it was the Republicans led by Newt Gingrich in the 90s that led the “Republican Revolution”. When Former President Clinton was elected and Democrats won control of the Congress; Republicans decided to focus on elections at every level. They wanted a Republican in every official office possible and that included Board of Education positions, and shaping the future of our kids was exactly what they wanted. The new Young Republicans that will grow up to become Mayors, Governors, Senators and even Presidents.

I feel as if we are at a cross-road in life; this country is so polarized right now. You’re either Rich or Poor; the middle-class is a dying breed.

You look at the points the Texas SBOE want to add/remove from the textbooks and it’s a dangerous curriculum they are trying to push. Every so often Texas talks about succeeding from the Union aka the United States; it was just last year that Gov Rick Perry (Texas) talked about succeeding from the Union. So of course they would want to put MORE focus on the inauguration speech of Jefferson Davis (President of the Confederate States).

As if there isn’t enough partisanship in politics today, let’s just preach more separation instead of focusing on coming together as One Nation.

These kats even want to take away using the term Democratic when referring to the United States, WTF! According to Texas the United States should be referred to as a “Constitutional Republic”. I wonder why????

Could it be that the Texas SBOE (Republicans) doesn’t believe that this nation is built on the principle of political or social equality for all??? It has to be that, I mean Republicans don’t believe most Americans should be covered by Healthcare.

Republicans hiding behind the Texas SBOE continue to show that they do not believe in social equality. While we’re at it why don’t we just replace old Stars and Stripes with the Confederate Flag!
