Takeover Thursday – Is Darrelle Revis channeling his inner Deion Sanders??

Darrelle Revis (24) celebrating himself
So Darrelle Revis decided he will not be showing up to Jets training camp because his feelings are “hurt” that the NY Jets have not renegotiated his contract so that he can be paid like the top cornerback in the NFL. I understand how the NFL works and I am sympathetic to football players as they unlike other other major sports for the most part play with non-guaranteed contracts; meaning that if they get hurt teams can cut them without honoring the rest of their contracts. So I usually always support players holding out for more upfront guaranteed money, except there is something not right about the Revis situation.
There is no doubt that Revis is the top cornerback in the NFL and he deserves a raise; but should he be a disruption to the team when they are looking to make a run to the Super Bowl?
I say NO!!!!
Revis is acting like a spoiled brat, you know what fuck it; he is acting like a dick! Yes he is the top corner in the league and he is currently the 6th highest paid corner in the NFL, but this is the contract he negotiated with the Jets. As a matter of fact before he played a down in the NFL he held out for money; he wanted more money up front and got it. So what’s the problem? He can’t be afraid of getting hurt and not being paid? If he would have showed up to camp he would have made a guaranteed $20 Million for 2010 and 2011; while he could have still been negotiating a new contract with the Jets. It has been reported that the Jets have offered Revis 2 contracts; it is said one offer would have extended his contract by 6 years while making something like $12 million a year. Not saying he should take that offer but it at least shows the Jets are willing to talk. In my opinion this hold out is a drastic move by Revis that will not only hurt the Jets but I believe the valuable time he is missing in training camp will hurt him this year. Not many players can pull a ‘Favre’ and miss significant time in training camp and perform at a top-level during the season.
So is this all about Revis being “hurt, frustrated and feeling unappreciated” by the Jets? I think Revis just needs to admit what this is all about… Don’t cry about being hurt or not feeling appreciated; keep it real! Revis wants to be like the greatest cornerback Deion Sanders, he just wants to be able to sing that classic jam, “Must Be the Money”
Of course since he is not a camp Revis has more time to run around Dick’s Sporting Goods store yelling Darrelle Reeeeeeeevvvvvvvvvvviiiiiiissssssssssssss………………..
As always….
If there is something to be said, “It’s On Broadway” to step up and say it!!!
