Amy Holmes, hmmmm…

Amy Holmes

Can’t even deny it any more, I tried not be attracted to Amy Holmes but it’s not working any more.  I am willing to look past her Conservative views as no one is perfect, besides the curly-curl hair be calling me; HA!!

For those of you not familiar with Amy here is a brief bio:

Amy Holmes is a CNN political contributor and conservative commentator. She appears regularly on The Situation Room and across all networks, including the network’s prime-time line-up in programs such as Larry King Live and Anderson Cooper 360º.

Prior to joining CNN, Holmes served as senior speechwriter to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) from May 2003 to July 2006, writing on topics ranging from economic and energy policy to judicial nominations and the Iraq war. Before that she worked for the CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, which oversees AmeriCorps, and helped build the non-profit Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) as economic project director and campus project director. While at IWF, Holmes oversaw and edited the organization’s labor statistics guide, “Women’s Figures: An Illustrated Guide to the Economics of Women in America.”

Holmes, a registered independent, has been a familiar face on television news and talk programs. – via CNN.com

Mary Matalin and James Carville

Being the Liberal/Moderate I am I realize there are number of political and moral issues Amy Holmes and I will disagree on but why should I let that stand in the way of what could possibly be a great couple.  The perfect example of a couple that made it work while working on opposite sides of the aisle; James Carville and Mary Matalin.  So there is no reason why we can’t make it work; here Right Wing views will keep me towards the center and my Left Wing views will keep her from that dangerous extreme Right and the Tea Party.

Amy might lack the ‘Street’ smarts I like my women to have but I am willing to look past that as she brings so much to the table.  I can probably carry enough ‘Street’ smarts for the both of us, HA!!

So with that said I am putting it out there, hopefully this blog will find its way to Amy.  If so Lets Make it Happen Ms. Holmes!!!

Talking Points Tuesdays – Bush Era Tax Cuts

Punks!!!

The big talk these days in Washington is Bush Era Tax Cuts; some of you might be saying what exactly are the Bush Era Tax Cuts?  It’s very simple, the Bush Tax Cuts are tax cuts that are geared towards the rich (2% of Americans).  These cuts were implemented in 2 phases back in 2001 and 2003; since 2003 the extremely rich (2% Americans) benefited while America paid for 2 wars and had an economy that nearly collapsed into a Great Depression.  Also during this time the working/middle class suffered and carried the weight of this nations fragile economy on its back; for those of you that don’t know that means 95% of Americans carried that load.

We the working/middle class are the key to a successful economy; when we are doing well this country is doing well.  A perfect of example of this was during President Clinton presidency; EVERYBODY made money during that time!!  This is something that President Obama understood when he campaigned for the presidency; this is what “THE PEOPLE” wanted and cheered for during his campaign rallies.  So far the president has put in place tax cuts for the middle class; 95% of Americans are now receiving a tax cut.  For the people who are slow, THIS IS A GOOD THING!!!!  The next step in President Obama’s plan is to let the Bush Era Tax cuts for the wealthy (2% of Americans) expire at the end of the year and permanently extend the tax cuts for the middle.  Now before the rich get all upset and start yelling about being unfairly treated, when the Bush Era Tax cuts expire the tax rate for the rich will go back to what it was during the Clinton years.  As I stated earlier, it was during the Clinton years when EVERYBODY got paid!!

So how is it that Republicans have distorted this message?

Republicans believe that raising taxes on the rich will stifle job creation; this is simply not true.  If this was true where are all the jobs that should have been created as a result of the Bush Era Tax Cuts?  Timothy Homan wrote in an article for Bloomberg.com (Rich Americans Save Tax Cuts Instead of Spending)

The Moody’s economists examined saving rates by income groups back to 1989. Their study uses statistics from the Federal Reserve’s quarterly Flow of Funds report, which gauges the net worth of households, and the Fed’s triennial Survey of Consumer Finances, a measure of balance sheets, pensions and incomes of U.S. families.

When tax legislation was signed by Clinton in 1993 — raising the top tax rate to 39.6 percent from 31 percent — the saving rate fell from 12.1 percent in the second quarter to 9.5 percent in the first quarter of 1994. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose 1.9 percent from July through September, after little change the previous three months.

When the first Bush tax cuts were signed into law in June 2001, pushing the top rate down to 35 percent, the wealthy boosted savings. The saving rate climbed to 2.8 percent in the first quarter of 2002 from minus 2 percent in the second quarter of 2001. The increased savings coincided with a 1.1 percent decline in the S&P 500 index.

After the second round of Bush tax cuts in May 2003, the rich also increased their saving, with the rate climbing to 7.6 percent in the first quarter of 2004 from 2.2 percent in the second quarter of 2003, the Moody’s data show.

On top of all that information the best thing about letting the Bush Era Tax Cuts expire for the wealthy 2% would save us $700 Billion that can be used to pay down the National Deficit.  So with all that said you would figure it would be pretty easy for Democrats to debate this.  Except for one thing, Democrats are proving to be PUNK ASS BITCHES!!!

Instead of using this as an opportunity to show fiscal responsibility Democrats are running scared and are delaying the vote on allowing the Bush Tax cuts to expire.  They are terrified of being accused of raising taxes during an election year; as I stated earlier this is not an increase that has not been seen before.  The rich will simply go back to paying a percentage of taxes they used to pay during one of the most successful economies.  The President and the WHite House are fighting to have this vote now, unfortunately spineless punks like Harry Reid is more concerned about his political future instead of fighting for the working/middle class he claims to care about.  Where is the fight in Democrats?  I see the likes of the President and Nancy Pelosi standing up, when will the rest of the party follow??

I’ll probably never be a big fan of Bush 43 but at least you can say he stood for what he believed in (good or bad); he didn’t pay attention to poll numbers.

There is a difference between campaign and governing; some times you have to make difficult decision when you govern.  So Dems get off your asses and stop campaigning when the American people need you to govern!!

Takeover Thursdays – Keith Bulluck vs. Tennessee Titans

Keith Bulluck - NY Giants

With this Sundays matchup between the NY Giants and Tennessee Titans has opened up a wound that had barely healed. Keith Bulluck will be facing his former team (Titans) for the first time since signing with the NY Giants. Bulluck spent the first 10 years of his career with the Titans; his departure from Tennessee was not received well by fans as reports surfaced that Bulluck was not even offered a contract by the Titans. Those reports were backed by Keith in his first statements to the media after signing with the Giants. Head coach of the Titans Jeff Fisher gave a different version of the story when he stated that Bulluck had desires of playing for his hometown team and that the Titans had interest. Up until this week that was were the story ended… When Bulluck met with the Nashville media earlier this week he reiterated he side of the story.

“You know what, honestly that’s (expletive),” Bulluck said of the team’s claims. “I was working there for 10 years. I have a house there still. Those people know my numbers. So if they were really trying to get in touch with me, trying to sign me and do all that stuff, I’m sure my phone would have rang, my agent’s phone.”

“I was laid up in the training room and I actually asked (Titans General Manager) Mike Reinfeldt what was up,” Bulluck said. “The answer he gave me was somewhat of a joke.”

“I asked my agent several times if the Titans gave him a shout,” he said, “and that didn’t happen.” – via Tennessean

I predict Bulluck will have a strong game as he will not only be up to play against his old team, but he will also be looking to help the Giants bounce back from the disappointing lost to the Colts.

Hines Ward says, Tennessee Titans ‘not same’ without Bulluck

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

They say the highest form of respect is the respect you receive from your peers. With the Pittsburgh Steelers preparing to face the Tennessee Titans this Sunday Hines Ward talked to the Tennessee media about Keith Bulluck…

“He would put guys in certain spots. He sees things and he just has a great knack for football. I remember going up against him and he’s calling out routes and stuff like that. You can’t replace that. They have some great talent, but losing Keith Bulluck, they’re definitely not the same defense that they were when he was there.” -via The Tennessean</strong

Bulluck now with the NY Giants will face a familiar foe on Sunday as the Giants will go up against Peyton Manning and the Colts. Hopefully Bulluck's experience will help in positioning the defense against the 4 time league MVP in Peyton Manning.

Talking Points Tuesdays – Newt Gingrich

Newt Gingrinch

Over the weekend Newt Gingrich (former Speaker of the House) made some outrageous comments about President Obama and the so-called origins of his political philosophy. Gingrich claims are so out there that noted Conservative Joe Scarborough could not help but laugh while discussing the topic on his show “Morning Joe”.  This is the type of nonsense that fuels nutbags like Pastor Terry Jones in Florida (Quran burning fool); and continues the ridiculous debate about the legitimacy of the president’s citizenship.  Currently this country is divided and it is not a divide that is only defined by political party; it’s much deeper than that.

 When Newt stated the following,

“What if [Obama] is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together [his actions]?” Gingrich asked. “That is the most accurate, predictive model for his behavior.”

He played to the fears of naive Americans who still believe President Obama is not a citizen and a Muslim; Gingrich with his insane comments gave a voice to the rest of the nutbags aka Birthers!  Newt is a smart man who is stooping to below the belt tactics in an attempt to make himself relevent again.  This is not what the Republican party needs, they need creative minds who will focus on creating jobs and controlling spending.

The problem is until someone steps up we will continue to see fools like Newt Gingrich; how much longer will the American people continue to listen to this nonsense about the President being a Kenyan with anti-colonial behavior?  How much longer we will allow these idiot conspiracy theorist spit their delusional thoughts that Obama has been planning this Socialist takeover since he was a teenager?

It’s time to wake up people before it is too late!!!

Takeover Thursdays – Republicans, “JUST SAY NO….”

Rep John Boehner (R) and Sen Mitch McConnell (R)

When President Obama took office on Janurary 20th 2009 the Republican Leadership (John Boehner and Mitch McConnell) decided they were not going to do anything to help this president or a Democrat controlled Congress move this country forward. Any legislation that was sponsored or strongly backed by Democrats the Republicans would immediately be on the side of opposition. It did’t matter what the legislation was, for it to pass Democrats would have to pass with a “Super Majority”

Republicans would force the “Super Majority” with the threat of a filibuster

Since Democrats took control of both the House and Senate in 2007 Republicans have used the filibuster approximately 152 times (112 times from 2007-2008)!! The use of filibuster exploded in 2007 once the Democrats took over; in the previous year under a Republican controlled congress the filibuster was only used 54 times by Democrats.

So what does this all mean for the everyday person?

That means the people suffer while Republicans focus on their political futures; if you think I am being too harsh take for example the debate of extending unemployment benefits. While millions of Americans unemployment benefits ran out Republicans stood by and debated if it was a good idea to extend the benefits. Poll after poll favored extending but the majority of Republicans stuck to their guns; it was clear that the GOP did not care about anyone else but themselves.

What I can’t understand is how a rational thinking person could possibily support this Republican way of thinking; according to a Gallup Poll released on August 30th 51% of registered voters preferred a Republican run Congress!!

As I have been saying since before the summer for this congress to produce good/great legislation it will take both parties working together. The more divided we are the less effective we will be; unfortuantely the Republicans are set to continue their obstructionist ways until they can regain some control of congress. When the mid-term elections occur in Novemeber we will more than likely see Republicans win control of the House; if that is the case the “Right” will then have to change from obstructionist to legislators. There is an interesting power that comes along with controlling the House of Representatives; Subpoena Power!

Having subpoena power allows the party in power to investigate suspious activity within governement; best believe Republicans would take advantage of that power to investigate the Obama Administration. What they will have to becareful of is not going too far with investigations. We could see a sceanrio where the House will be so involved in investigations that no real legislation will be enacted; and in these econiomic times the last thing we need is a lack of focus on creating jobs.

I have to admit I am not very hopefully that we will see much out of the Republican party; John Boehner and Mitch McConnell still have not produced a plan to set this country back on the right path. All I am seeing and hearing is a lot of stupid discussion about Ground Zero Mosques and how the President is a supporter of Islam.

Both parties need to wake up and get it together, they need to focus on the word for today…

THE WORD FOR TODAY IS JOB, J-O-B-S!!!
