Talking Points Tuesdays – After Florida GOP Primary, Then What?

Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich

With Mitt Romney expecting a big victory in Florida tonight, what will happen to Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum presidential aspirations?

Well…

I don’t see any reason for Rick Santorum to continue after Florida… Besides the political reasons there is also his family.  Say what you want about Rick Santorum, but one thing you can’t deny is his devotion to family.  With his daughter recently becoming ill (they say she is getting better) I see reality settling in for Rick and I fully expect that he suspend his campaign in the next couple of days.  Santorum can walk away from the campaign trail with pride as he has done better than most expected, and at this point he can still be an influence in this primary season for the GOP.  With Santorum capturing the evangelical endorsement I am sure Newt and Mitt would like to have some of that support thrown their way.  Santorum may not be a “King Maker” but he can still play a role all the way to the convention.

As for Newt, well the grandiose one will definitely keep trucking on. I can’t see the blowhard calling it quits, especially if he gets a beat down tonight in Florida… He ain’t going out like that!  Plus Joe Scarborough recently made a good point about Newt continuing after Florida.

“And let me tell you something, a 20-point loss in Florida — that’s not a nuclear holocaust,” Scarborough said on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” on NBC.

“February is a down month. That gives the strategist three or four weeks to plan and then look at the calendar. You look at Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas soon after that. If I have to bet on Newt’s strongest state, I list all of those. That’s exactly what he needs.” – The Daily Caller

With that being said I have to agree with Joe (it happens), with Mitt struggling to consistently win over Conservatives there is a chance for Newt to gain some ground and recover from Florida with the next set of southern states.  Keep in mind as Scarborough stated, Newts strategists will have some time to regroup with no primaries in the month of February.

PLUS, Newt picked up the endorsement of Herman Cain! Wait… WHO????

On the flip-side Romney strategist can’t be thrilled with the upcoming downtime in February; the last debate was probably Mitt’s best performance as he finally seemed comfortable attacking Newt… It’s all about momentum and after Florida Mitt will be losing some of that.

And no I did not forget about Ron Paul but the guy didn’t even campaign in Florida; word is with Florida being an older crowd Paul’s campaign decided it wasn’t a good fit for him.  It’s the best thing for Paul when you think about, Mitt Romney and his super PAC spent $15 million dollars attacking Newt all over Florida compared to the $4 million Newt spent.  No way Paul can hang with that much money being spent so it’s best he just do a walk-by in Florida.  Besides, skipping Florida is a good thing for him as more reports came out from former staffers claiming Paul knew about the racist content in those newsletter he claims he knew nothing about.

tsk tsk tsk Ron Paul…..

Ron Paul

Oh well, these debates have been some what entertaining so why not a couple more!!!

Militant Mondays – Court Order for President Obama…

President Obama

Amazingly enough the birther issue is STILL out there!!!

Even after President Obama released his long form birth certificate and shut down idiots like Donald Trump, we still have nutbags who believe that Barack Obama illegally became President of the United States in January of 2009.  Queen of the nutbags, Orly Taitz has had this crusade to prove that there is a conspiracy to cover up that Obama is not a natural-born citizen.  Her crusade has taken her to Georgia where a resident made the complaint that Pres Obama’s name should be taken off the state’s ballot in Georgia’s March presidential primary.

You know I would not have believed this story if I didn’t read it for myself, what else does the president have to do to prove that there is no conspiracy?

Well….

Deputy Chief Judge Michael Malihi (Georgia) has issued a subpoena that requires PRESIDENT OBAMA to show up in Georgia’s Office of State Administrative Hearings.  So the ONLY way Mr Malihi believes this so-called ballot issue can be resolved is if the Leader of the Free World drops everything to show up in person to prove what has ALREADY been proven!!!

I can just imagine…

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: “Yes Mr President I would like to discuss a peaceful solution to my country’s (Iran) nuclear program.”

President Obama: “Yeah M.A. I would love to talk BUT…. I got this citizenship thing I have to handle in Georgia.  Let me call you back in a couple of days when I got this thing all cleared up.”

Come on folks, stop the nonsense!

No disrespect to the Deputy Chief Judge but this is some Kangaroo Court BS!

Red Tails = TRASH!!!!

Yup I said it ‘Red Tails’ = Trash, I walked into the movie theater wanting to love this movie but it was clearly evident within the 1st hour that it was not going to happen.  I am all for supporting Black films, but I am also about supporting GOOD Black films.

Black Cast + Black History DOES NOT automatically equal good movie!

It was as if they said, “OK we got a Black story, Black cast and that’s all we need!”.  The story seemed to have moments that just didn’t make a whole lot of sense and could have done without.  Also the story was chopped up and as one of my friends noted, it was as if the script required EVERY actor had to have some kind of speaking part.  This movie may have been better if they chopped it down from 2 hours to 90 minutes; maybe a little less Ne-Yo and his ridiculous character and more insight into what made the relationship between ‘Easy’ and ‘Lightning’ the way it was.

Also (without given away spoilers), how is it that Maurice’s scenes made the final cut????

I understand the difficulty “Black films” have being green-lighted in Hollywood, I just don’t see ‘Red Tails’ making it any easier.  In all honesty without the dog-fighting scenes ‘Red Tails’ is not that far from being one of Tyler Perry’s earlier movies.

From my understanding of the Tuskegee Airmen is that those men knew and understood the pressure of the situation they were in.  I am sure they had their moments of fun and joking around but I can’t believe what was depicted in ‘Red Tails’ is what really happened.

Courtland Milloy of the Washington Post wrote:

During a recent screening of the movie sponsored by the National Association of Black Journalists, I sat with Morris and several other Tuskegee Airmen. The men were pleased that the history of the black pilots, gunners and mechanics was getting so much attention, and they were grateful to Lucas for using $93 million of his own money to help bankroll the film.

Nevertheless, they saw little of themselves on the screen. Davis would not have tolerated the fist fights, aerial stunts, drunkenness and insubordination. For my money, Lucas could have depicted the pilots as they were — as distinctive as the squad led by Tom Hanks in Steven Spielberg’s “Saving Private Ryan,” or the group of soldiers in the television series “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.”

If folks want to see a GOOD movie about the Tuskegee Airmen they should checkout the HBO film ‘The Tuskegee Airmen’.  Now that was a movie that told a story and connected.  Cuba Gooding Jr was in both movies and I think even he knows which one was the better movie.

Thanks George Lucas, but ‘Red Tails’ could have been better!!!

Talking Points Tuesdays – POTUS celebrates Boston Bruins minus their MVP Tim Thomas

Pres Obama honoring the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions

On Monday President Obama honored 2011 Stanley Cup Champions the Boston Bruins, this is a tradition that has gone on for years where the president will honor the champions in sports.  There is nothing political about this event, but that didn’t stop one particular Bruin from excluding himself from the celebration.

Tim Thomas the 2011 Conn Smythe Trophy (Hockey MVP) winner decided that he would use the non-political event to show his protest of the direction government is going in with President Obama as Commander-in-Chief…

“I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.

“This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.

“Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.

“This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT”

Without a doubt Tim Thomas has the right as a “Free Citizen” to protest gov’t; this is why The United States of America is great.

BUT….  And you knew there will be one from me

As I give a slow unenthusiastic clap for Thomas and his right to protest, my only thought is that this is was a waste of time.  This is not a Tommie Smith and John Carlos 1968 Olympics protest moment;

1968 Olympics, Tommie Smith and John Carlos

in that case the world was watching.  Here Tim Thomas swung and missed, or should I say he let one go right through the five hole… Especially when he states, “This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic.”  Sorry Tim but if you want to make a real impact you should step up and face the media and explain your protest.  Let us hear your voice instead of reading a statement, IT’S YOUR RIGHT!!!

The way I look at it Tim Thomas is not disrespecting President Obama, it’s his choice.  At the end of day the goalie short-changed himself, when will he get another chance to face the President of the United States and state his opinions?  Oh well Mr Thomas, carry on….

WTF/WTH Wednesdays – 99 Problems and BITCH is still one….

New Dad Jay-Z....

Once again the internet rumor mill got ahead of itself when a poem allegedly written by Jay-Z about his new outlook on the word “Bitch”.  Many believed that with the birth of his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter and the poem being circulated was Jay turning over a new leaf where he would no longer use “Bitch” in his rhymes.

Oh well…

In a NY Daily News interview Jay-Z stated that,

A recent report he wrote a poem to his newborn daughter vowing to drop the word “b—-” from his vocabulary.

“That poem and story are fake,”

It was a nice thought, I can’t front I was excited for Jay and Beyoncé to get at it again and have a son… Then maybe Jay would stopped with the n-word, YEAH RIGHT!!!

I guess 99 Problems and BITCH is still One, hey we can still enjoy the soft side of Jay in the song ‘Glory’
