Talking Points Tuesdays – You Just Can’t take Santorum seriously….

Rick Santorum

“President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college. What a snob. There are good decent men and women who go out and work hard every day and put their skills to test that aren’t taught by some liberal college professor to try to indoctrinate them. Oh, I understand why he wants you to go to college. He wants to remake you in his image.”  – Rick Santorum

In the immortal words of Arnold Jackson (Gary Coleman), “What you talking bout Willis”.

Seriously, what is Santorum talking about?  Is he so desperate to find something to stick to Pres Obama and to gain ground in the polls that he would really try to portray the president as a “Snob”?  Unfortunately the answer is yes!

Santorum who is a graduate of Penn State and has a Masters in Business Administration and a Law Degree from Dickson School of Law, looks like a disconnected fool!  Study after study have shown that in this economy it is becoming nearly impossible to find a decent job without higher education; I guess Santorum missed that economic data.  Also Santorum either completely missed the point of Pres Obama when he said he wants to make college affordable for every American…. Or Rick decided to ignore what the president was saying in order to create some kind of fear with the middle class.

I tend to believe that Rick Santorum is all about the latter!

This is the Republican party, the party that will find a way to simply disagree with ANYTHING President Obama supports; even if it means making a fool out of themselves.

In 2006 Rick Santorum boasted about his support for higher education on his campaign website during his 2006 Senate campaign:

Commitment to Higher Education
In addition to Rick’s support of ensuring that primary and secondary schools in Pennsylvania are equipped for success, he is equally committed to ensuring the every Pennsylvanian has access to higher education. Rick Santorum has supported legislative solutions that provide loans, grants, and tax incentives to make higher education more accessible and affordable.  – via Talking Points Memo

So what’s the difference now in 2012?

Talking Points Tuesdays – WTH is Happy Friendship Day?

You know something is not right when there is controversy around Valentine’s Day???  I thought we hit the peak with the whole Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays nonsense, but apparently I was wrong.

I was talking to one of my colleagues in Houston and they mentioned how their son’s school (son is in the 1st grade) doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day….

Wait… What Happened???

I never even heard of such a thing before, what’s wrong with Valentine’s Day?

According to my co-worker his son’s school doesn’t celebrate V-Day because they don’t want to focus on love as they feel it should be more of a focus on friendship.  So the school celebrates Friendship Day.

WTH….

Man… listen, this is Valentine’s Day and I don’t care how old you are.  This is the day you give your lil crush a cut out heart you made out of red construction paper.  What the hell do you give someone for Friendship Day?

Seriously, why would we as a society be scared to allow our young children to know that there is a difference between a friend and someone you may like more than just as a friend?  Are we fearful of the influences of this sexually charged world we live in?  If that’s the case it’s too late, the cat is out the bag.  As a society I believe we complicate things…

1st kids sports started the policy of every child getting a trophy, because EVERYONE IS A WINNER!!

Nooooo, some times there are winners and loser.  The sooner you learn that the better off you will be, a little healthy competition in life is good for you.  It build character, occasionally there will be poor sportsmanship but that is LIFE!!!!  Stop sugar-coating it, in real life people lose.

Then there was the ban of sports like dodge ball in school, smh.  I don’t know about y’all but dodge ball taught me that in life there are surprises, and if you don’t keep your head on a swivel you can get smacked right in the back of head.  Man… dodge ball was fun as hell!!

I miss the good old days….

Let’s just relax and leave Valentine’s Day alone, besides you get rid of V-Day and your killing a big pay-day for the retail industry.  The National Retail Federation said the average person will spend $126.03 on gifts, up 8.5 percent from last year’s $116.21.  Total sales nationwide is expected to reach something like $18 billion…

GTFOH!

Militant Mondays – Ladies cut your toe nails!!!

I am going to stray a bit from my usual content but I felt compelled to write about what happened to me recently.

Feet and I do not get along, and I don’t know when this started I just know we ain’t all that cool.  For the most part it doesn’t matter if they are cute or ugly, you’re probably not getting that foot massage on the 1st date (who does that anyway?).  It takes a lil bit for me to get comfortable with any chick putting her dawgs up in my face.

This all came to a head when this one particular lady accidentally scratched me with one of her toe nails during an intimate moment, you can imagine the horror!!!!

OK so “horror” is a lil extreme but I did nervously laugh as the image of a crusty toe nail scratching me distracted me from the task at hand.  I’m sorry ladies but along with a great personality I do expect a lady to keep the whole package up to date.

  • Hair
  • Nails
  • body

etc….

I mean women expect men to be clean and well-groomed, so I would expect the same from the ladies.  The last thing I want are claws digging into me while I am trying to put in some work. HAHA!!

Luckily for me she wasn’t too upset that I was “easily” distracted, at the end of the day she was cool about it.

At least I think she was….

Pres Obama and the Contraception Mandate

It was a week ago today that President Obama and the White house were taking a victory lap and basking in the glow of the recent jobs report (243,000 jobs created).

How quickly things change….

Now the White House is trying to get their arms around the controversy of mandating employers including most religious affiliated organizations to provide free contraception in health insurance to their employees.  This contraception mandate has become the mantra for the Republicans candidates where they are accusing the president on leading an “assault on religion”.  However you slice it this is not good for the president… Instead of talking about extending payroll tax or building on the positive jobs report; this week has been focused on a cultural war which is being presented as an example of how President Obama is trying to fundamentally change this country.

I understand both sides of this argument; you have the President and Health and Human Services trying to mandate to provide women with care that is common sense to many, it’s not just about birth-control and preventing unwanted babies.  It’s also about the use of birth-control for other health benefits.  At the same time to the Catholic Church this is an intrusion on the church’s rights (1st Amendment) and that there is a separation between church and state.

There is no good way for the Fed to tell the Catholic Church or religious affiliated orgs  how they should handle contraception, in my opinion it doesn’t matter if the majority of Catholics (like myself) use contraception.  That’s something between me and the church….

The President needs to address this and get some kind of resolution in place SOON!!

Up until now Republican candidates have been struggling building enthusiasm for the 2012 election; this “assault on religion” is the type of issue/talking point that can excite the GOP base.

There is word that a compromise has been reached; initial reports are saying the compromise will require insurers not religious employers to offer contraception services.  Not sure if this will satisfy the church, but I can’t see the White House making an announcement about compromise without having some kind of support from the Catholic Church.

The most important thing for the White House right now is to put this to bed and get the focus back on moving forward with the economy.  Even if the compromise is sufficient for both sides I will not be surprised if the president takes a bit of hit in his approval rating in the next couple of weeks because of this.

Trump Endorses Romney…. Whoop-De-Damn-Do!!

Mitt Romney and Donald Trump

Before it was his “honor, real honor and privilege to endorse Mitt Romney” Donald Trump was not the biggest fan of Mitt…

“I wasn’t in love with the job he did in Massachusetts”

“He’d buy companies. He’d close companies. He’d get rid of jobs”

“He walked away with some money from a very good company that he didn’t create”

“He wasn’t popular. He was a one-term governor…[and] the Romneycare was obviously not a good situation.”

So why the change of heart by Trump concerning Romney??

It’s simple, Trump sees that Romney is riding high right now after Florida and that Romney will more than likely win the next couple of primaries and caucuses (Nevada, Maine, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Arizona, Michigan and Washington State).  The Donald sees a perfect opportunity for him to endorse Romney and then spin it that HIS endorsement put Romney over the top.

Trump doesn’t REALLY care about endorsing Romney or anyone, all he cares about is himself and how he can make himself important.

Sorry Donald….

Nobody cares about your endorsement, you’re a joke…

A similar headline was featured online for the NY Daily News; “Trump to endorse Romney; in equally big news, a guy in Queens shaved today.”

It was almost a week ago that the Romney’s staff were giving each other high fives after he destroyed Newt in the Florida debate.  Singing their own praises about how THEY turned around Mitt’s campaign strategy and shut Newt down.  So they follow that up by letting Trump make a show out of his silly endorsement??

If I was Newt I would take this opportunity to slam Romney and talk about how these uber rich guys don’t really care about the poor!

“I’m in this race cause I care about Americans, I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there if it needs repair we’ll fix it…”

“You can focus on the very poor, that’s not my focus…”
