Bronco’s Emmanuel Sanders Calls Peyton Manning a Better Leader than Big Ben

It’s always interesting when players sign with new teams and they comment on their old team/teammates. Emmanuel Sanders let it be know how much he likes being in Denver and playing with Peyton Manning.

“I feel like Peyton is a far better leader, in terms of staying after practice, catching balls, wanting guys to get on the same page with him, things of that sort,” Sanders said. “This is the first time that I’ve had a quarterback that every single day after practice — no matter what his accolades, NFL MVP, Super Bowl ring — he keeps guys like me and [rookie receiver Cody] Latimer after practice. . . . He’s not one of those guys you’ve got to chase down. He’s going to be right in the same spot, ready to work, every single day. I just feel like that’s a difference from a mental standpoint.”

Sanders said he views Roethlisberger as a winner, too, and he enjoyed their time as teammates. But he’s enjoying his time with Manning even more.

“I’ve got so much love for Ben,” Sanders said. “At the same time, I’m not going to lie. I’m happy to be part of this organization and happy that Peyton is my quarterback.”

Damn Sanders, if that’s your way of showing love for Big Ben, I would hate to see if Ben actually did you wrong!

Time to Leave Johnny Manziel Alone!

Last week I saw that Mike Greenberg of ESPN’s morning radio show Mike & Mike tweet a pic of Johnny Manziel with Justin Bieber, Floyd Mayweather Jr, and Tyrese

Manziel1

I have no idea why Greenberg tweeted the pic as I was not listening to Mike & Mike at the time. I have no idea if Greenberg was criticizing Manziel for his partying ways, but I am going to take a wild guess and say he was. It has become very fashionable these days for former players and commentators to take shots at Manziel and his activities off the field.

Over the past couple of weeks Joe Montana, Warren Moon, Brady Quinn and Akili Smith…. Yes, even Akili Smith whose career is the epitome of failure has something to say about Manziel’s partying ways.

In response to all the criticism Manziel said the following:

“I’m not going to change who I am for anybody. I’m growing up and continuing to learn from my mistakes and trying not to make the same ones over and over again, but am I going to live in a shell or am I just going to hide from everybody and not do anything?

“I’m very committed to football. I’m committed to my job, but on the weekends, I’m going to enjoy my time off. We deserve it. We work hard here. I am going to enjoy my time off. I’m very about football and very about my job, which doesn’t get reported or won’t get reported, but I am going to enjoy my time off.

“That’s I think what everybody else does and that’s what I should do.

This past 4th of July Manziel stayed true to the above statement and partied in Vegas.  And once again a possibly compromising pic surfaced

There has been plenty of speculation of what Manziel was doing or about to do, and once again his partying became a topic of discussion.

While the critics suggest that Manziel should “tone it down”, the reality is that outside of Manziel becoming a shut-in he will always be a photo-op. When Manziel goes to Starbucks or grocery shopping someone will have a camera/camera-phone. Manziel’s critics have to be realistic in their criticism. The only person who seems to understand that, is Charles Barkley

“Listen, he’s got to watch himself, man, because everybody’s out to get you now. Every nitwit has a cellphone,”

“But you should never take selfies of yourself doing anything that can be considered stupid. And that’s probably the only problem I have with Johnny Manziel. Most of his pictures are selfies, and that tells me he’s just too immature to handle this fame thing right now.”

Barkley noted that he doesn’t allow his friends to take pictures when they go out and that he has people “watching everybody around me in case something happens.”

Barkley hits it right on the head, while I believe there is something inherently wrong when creepy folks are spending their time trying to catch Manziel in act of doing something. Manziel has to at least be lil more aware of his situation and strike a balance of gettin it in and being a football player!

Anyone that knows me knows that I work hard and party hard, but not everyone can do that. And for all we know right now Manziel is that type of person. Lets see him play a down before we judge what he should or should not do in his free time?

No Tribute to Tony Gwynn at MLB All-Star Game

Last night’s MLB All-Star Game was a fitting tribute to Derek Jeter who will be retiring at the end of the season, but there was something missing….

Somehow Major League Baseball did not mention of the passing of Tony Gwynn who died after a battle with Cancer on  June 16th. I realize the retirement of Jeter is a big deal and he deserves all the praise for everything he has accomplished but no moment of silence before or during the game is unforgivable.

gwynnSIcover

Gwynn was one of the greatest ambassadors for baseball and this is the way they repay him, it’s a shameful moment that baseball commentators should speak about and force some kind of response from Commissioner Bud Selig. I’m a lil shocked that Selig dropped the ball on this as he usually does a good job remembering the greats of the game.

And it was not only Tony Gwynn who was forgotten, but there was no mention of Ralph Kiner, Jim Fergosi, Frank Cashen, Don Zimmer, Jerry Coleman, and Bob Welch who passed away in 2014.

On Wednesday MLB and Fox Sports released a joint statement concerning the lack of tribute:

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, an extraordinary individual whose memory we have honored in numerous ways in recent weeks. The Baseball family has sadly lost a number of people this year – including Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner, Frank Cashen, and former All-Stars Jerry Coleman, Jim Fregosi and Don Zimmer – and did not want to slight anyone by singling out one individual.”

This is a sad excuse by MLB and Fox Sports.

The game stopped for five minutes for Derek Jeter and a standing ovation as he left the field for the last time as an all-star, you mean to tell me baseball and Fox Sports could not fit in another five minutes for some kind of video montage for those who have passed away?

Come on Bud, you can do better. I am expecting something nice during the Playoffs and World Series!

Actors, Not NY Mets Players in NIKE Tribute Ad to Derek Jeter

1405362617000-Derek-Jeter

Nike/Jordan Brand will air a tribute ad tonight during the MLB All-Star game for Derek Jeter. In baseball a tip of the cap to the opposing team\player is a sign of respect.

From Red Sox fans, Jon Lester to Spike Lee and Michael Jordan the ad shows the level of respect Jeter has garnered over 20 seasons. And even in this moment of the New York Mets come off as clowns.

mets

For the record I don’t know what’s involved in getting the rights to show players images in a commercial like this, but I have to believe there could have been a better way to handle this. Derek Jeter is ‘The Captain’ of the Yankees and David Wright is ‘The Captain’ of the Mets; it would have been great to see Wright tip his cap to Jeter. Instead we have actors with blurred faces/numbers and a blurred faced Mr Met.

Maybe the Mets had nothing to do with the blurring, but as any Mets’ fan knows this has the Wilpons written all over this.

Brooklyn Nets to Pay a Record $90M in Luxury Taxes

Nets

Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov is starting to see how expensive living in BK can be. The NBA announced yesterday what the 2014-2015 salary cap will be set at $63.065 million and the tax level has increased to $76.829 million.  The Nets have $90M committed to their current roster and that does not include the potential re-signing of Paul Pierce.

The Nets heavily invested in making a splash in their inaugural season in Brooklyn and they did see some success with a playoff berth; but they leveraged their future for the present. Even though Prokhorov is uber rich, I don’t think he wants to keep shelling out those greenbacks without seeing some real results on the court. GM Billy King will have to get creative and hope for a healthy Brooke Lopez and Deron Williams.

I am not including Jason Kidd departure as part of the challenges for Brooklyn as this could be an “addition by subtraction” scenario with Lionel Hollins taking over. I believe fans underrate Hollins as coach, the Nets will be in a great place if he can replicate the work he was able to do with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Japanese Politician and his Emotional Plea

This is hilarious, a Japanese politician being accused of misusing public funds and this is his press conference trying to explain what happened. Some of the misuse of funds were used for over 100 trips to a spa!

I wish we could see some our Senators and Congressmen in the US give this type of press conference. Imagine Charles Schumer, Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, Harry Reid, John Boehner, and Steve King looking so pitiful.

Oh wait…

Major League Baseball’s Twitter Account Pays Respect to USA Goalie Tim Howard

In a sign of respect to the tremendous effort Tim Howard is displaying in goal against Belgium @MLB tweeted a twitpic of the Gold Gloves in the Hall of Fame and said they now belong to Howard.

MLBGGloves

In Extra Time Belgium finally beat Howard and currently lead 2-1, no matter the outcome of this game Howard has played out of his mind and there is no shame in this lost.

Tim Howard with 16 saves has made himself into a star in the United States with this World Cup performance.

Happy Canada Day!!!

Big shoutout to our homies up north who are celebrating the anniversary of uniting of three colonies to form a single country called Canada. I could thank Canada for development of hockey as we know it today, but there is something much more important to be thankful for….

degrassi-header

I’m an older head who watched a fair share of TV growing up, and one of the shows I always enjoyed and grew up on was Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High (Not talking about the Drake years for all of you Drake fans). While American shows would have their “very special episodes” it seemed like every episode was a special for Degrassi; drug use, child abuse, teenage pregnancy, homosexuality, homophobia, racism, and divorce.

So on this Canada Day, I salute Canadians for Degrassi and its social contributions

Floyd Mayweather Announces Sept 13th Rematch with Marcos Maidana

I guess there was some good that came out of the BET Awards this past weekend.

While doing an interview with LATen Media Floyd Mayweather announced September 13th as the date for a rematch with Marcos Maidana. A rematch with Maidana will be great for boxing as Mayweather and Maidana put on a show in their first fight (May 3rd).

As for the May surprise, could we finally see Mayweather vs Pacquiao?

Who knows, Mayweather is a master at promoting his fights, so lets not get our hopes too high. For all we know it could be a fight with Amir Khan who has been doing a lot of talking about fighting Floyd or Pacquiao.
