#RIP Earl F. Lloyd, the 1st African-American to Play in the NBA

This week we lost a trail blazer in the NBA.

Earl F. Lloyd was the 1st African-American to play in the NBA. He entered the NBA during the 1950-51 season with Chuck Cooper, Nathaniel Clifton, and Hank DeZonie. Lloyd played from 1950-1960; in 1955 he won a NBA Championship with Syracuse.

After his playing career Lloyd coached the Detroit Pistons from 1971-1972.

It’s a shame that Lloyd is not talked about more for his accomplishments. I consider myself a sports fanatic and I can’t recall ever hearing about Earl Lloyd. Not even during Black History Month have I ever heard the NBA acknowledge Lloyd.

Baseball does a great job celebrating Jackie Robinson every year. It’s time for NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and the NBA to step up and do a better job celebrating heroes like Earl Lloyd!

Am I Still Supposed to Feel Bad for Marshawn Lynch?

During media week before Super Bowl XLIX, Marshawn Lynch gained the support of many fans with his reluctance to contribute to media day. Fans sympathized with Lynch as the NFL and the media became the bad guys that were trying to bully someone who seemed like he was not comfortable in interviews. The week became a spectacle as the daily storyline of the Super Bowl was either ‘Deflate Gate’ or whether or not Lynch would be fined for not really speaking with the media.

As we all know by now, Lynch came up with an answer to fulfill his media obligations and hopefully annoy the league and the NFL.

So now, the shy Lynch has filed to trademark his infamous phrase, “I’m just here so I won’t get fined”….

I realize I’m in the minority on this, but it just rubs me the wrong way. As an NFL player it’s part of your responsibility to spend time with the media. Yes, the media can fuck you over if you’re not careful, but also it’s the same media that can elevate your profile.

I just wish everyone would stop acting like the media and the NFL are out to destroy Lynch. It’s the media and NFL that have Lynch’s highlights on continuous repeat….

So excuse me if I don’t feel sorry for Marshawn when the NFL is fining him, oh well. The shirts he will sell can help pay the fines!

Another Knee Surgery for Derrick Rose

Another season, and another knee surgery for Derrick Rose….

We are now at the point where Rose’s knees maybe in the same category as Greg Oden, rickety!

The Chicago Bulls just announced that Rose will be out indefinitely with surgery to repair a torn meniscus.  This is the same right knee Rose had surgery on November 25, 2013 after returning from a torn ACL in his left knee.

Rose’s game is all about explosion, and you have to wonder how much more does he have left in his knees. But it will not only be the physical part that Rose will have to recover from. After 3-knee surgeries what will his mental state be like?

It was just back in November when Rose caused a mini-stir when he discussed being concerned about his long-term health. He talked about not wanting to suffering with aches and pains with his knees later in life by picking and choosing being the player that won the MVP in 2010-2011.

If Rose’s confidence was wavering back then after a 2nd knee surgery, what will his confidence/mind-set be after a 3rd knee surgery?

Will the Real Conservatives Stand-Up

It’s been a couple of days since Rudy Giuliani made his asinine statements about President Obama not “Loving America”. As absurd Giuliani’s comments were, the potential 2016 Republican presidential candidates still managed to stumble their way thru this.

In a time when the 2016 Republican presidential field rail against Obama for leadership, they all missed the boat to show leadership when asked about Giuliani’s comments

“The gist of what Mayor Giuliani said – that the President has shown himself to be completely unable to speak the truth about the nature of the threats from these ISIS terrorists- is true,”

“If you are looking for someone to condemn the Mayor, look elsewhere.” – Governor Bobby Jindal

“The mayor can speak for himself,”

“I’m not going to comment on what the president thinks or not. He can speak for himself as well.” – Governor Scott Walker

You can’t expect to win in a general election simply pandering to the extremist and this goes for both Conservatives and Liberals. This was a moment for Governor Walker to set himself apart from the rest of the field. Instead he fell flat on his face and scrambling to backtrack on his initial comments.

So far Senator Marco Rubio has given the best response to all this nonsense….

I don’t feel like I’m in a position to have to answer for every person in my party that makes a claim. Democrats aren’t asked to answer every time Joe Biden says something embarrassing, so I don’t know why I should answer every time a Republican does. I’ll suffice it to say that I believe the President loves America; I think his ideas are bad.

Honestly folks, it’s not that difficult!

Rudy Giuliani Doesn’t Believe Pres Obama “Loves America”

Rudy Giuliani has become a vile, disgusting human being desperate for attention!

The former mayor of NYC obviously misses the spotlight. I mean is there any other reason why Rudy would go out of his way to make ridiculous statements about the President Obama?

Wednesday night Rudy spoke at a dinner for Wisconsin Governor and possible 2016 presidential candidate Scott Walker, and made the following statement.

“I do not believe, and I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the president loves America,”

“He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country.”

“with all our flaws we’re the most exceptional country in the world. I’m looking for a presidential candidate who can express that, do that and carry it out.”

If you want to disagree with the president’s policies, fine. That is to be expected from conservatives, but to challenge the president’s patriotism is just over the top. The failed presidential candidate continued his despicable behavior Thursday claiming he just wants a president who loves America.

Giuliani continued to not only double-down, but he triple-down as he explained that his mention of Obama not being “brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up”, was not racist because Obama was raised by “a white mother”.

Rudy, please STFU!

ICYMI: Kobe Bryant’s ‘The Interview’

Kobe Bryant will never be as loved as Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson, but when it’s time for Kobe to walk away from the game; NBA fans will then appreciate the greatness of ‘The Black Mamba‘.

Monday night NBA TV aired ‘Kobe: The Interview‘.  After watching the special I have to say I have a whole new appreciation for Kobe. During the interview with Ahmad Rashad Kobe discusses his desire to win, confidence, injuries, Shaq, Phil Jackson and what else is left in basketball for him.

If you missed it I recommend you check it out, not saying you will walk away loving Kobe, but I will say you can’t (well you can but you would just be a hater) knock his determination.
