BETTER THAN YOU – The Patrice O’Neal Documentary

When Patrice O’Neal passed away on November 29, 2011, the comedy world lost one of the greats. His comedy was hard-hitting and brutally honest that appealed to different crowds.

In memory of Patrice, Von DeCarlo (wife) and family have started an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for the Patrice O’Neal documentary; ‘Better Than You – The Patrice O’Neal Documentary’.

I would love to see this documentary made (I have already donated) as Patrice was more than just a funny comic. He was an intelligent guy with an interesting outlook on life. He never feared stepping out and speaking out on controversial topics, and he was capable of approaching these topics from a logical point-of-view while being able to add a flavor of comedy.

If you have never peeped Patrice’s comedy act, check YouTube for his stand-up. Some of his best stuff is from his appearances on Opie & Anthony radio show

@CarmeloAnthony Calls for Peace in Baltimore #BaltimoreRiots

Watching the images of Black people so upset and frustrated with the current state of Baltimore destroy their community was beyond depressing.

I feel for everyone in Baltimore, from those who feel like rioting is their only course of action and to those who are frustrated watching their city in utter turmoil.

For the past 24-hours there has been a lot of talk about protesting vs. rioting and destroying your neighborhood. Carmelo Anthony, a native of Baltimore posted the following on his Instagram account:

Melo1

melo

I agree with Melo, and I wish there was no rioting, but at the same time I can’t sit here from my relatively calm environment and judge those who are rioting. Not to say that I condone the violence, not at all, but I also realize there are angry protestors, there are angry rioters, and then there are the misguided who are angry and have no idea what to do with their anger.

Those who are rioting and those like Melo calling for peace are both right in my opinion. There is room for both sentiments and in the long run we will need to come together to rebuild and come together to push for real change that will last.

And for those on Facebook that have been posting statuses and pics talking about Martin Luther King Jr and how he was for peaceful protest. While this is true, it is also true that MLK Jr also had thoughts on those who riot….

It is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard.

#THIS: Harvey Returns to New York

When Rob Manfred took over as the 10th commissioner of Major League Baseball he openly acknowledged that baseball needed to do a better job in leveraging social media to market the game.

I think social media is a space that we need to continue to work on. You know, our principle efforts with respect to the pure marketing of the game are going to be player-focused. We’re at an interesting spot from the generational perspective—the Derek Jeter generation has kind of moved on, and we’re going to be making a conscious effort to market the new stars of the game—the Mike Trouts, the Clayton Kershaws and Andrew McCutchens. Those folks are great players and great young people, and that’s going to be a principle focus of our marketing efforts. Social is important, obviously, particularly with younger players who kind of carry younger fans – Rob Manfred

Baseball has launched their new PR campaign to promote their stars, #THIS. And just in time for the Subway Series they have release #THIS: Harvey Returns to New York

LETS GO HAR-VEE, LETS GO HAR-VEE….

Ok baseball, I think this is a good first step for MLB. I mean it works for me as a Mets fan, but can baseball get this out to the causal fan? Baseball needs to think big, they should buy spots during the NBA Playoffs and NFL Draft; just bombard TV and all social media with this campaign. Hopefully Manfred and baseball can keep coming up with good ideas like this.

By the way, baseball’s Twitter account (@MLB) currently has 4.48 million followers, and that may seem a lot until you take a look at the NBA’s Twitter account (@NBA)…. 14 million followers!!!!

You can checkout more #THIS videos on MLB’s YouTube Channel

@Mets vs. @Yankees the 2015 Edition #SubwaySeries

Full Disclosure, I am a HARDCORE Mets fan and I hate the Yanks aka the Skanks!

Once again it’s that time of the year in the baseball season; New York Mets vs New York Yankees!

Inter-league play started back in 1997 and for Mets fans, outside of the 2000 World Series and the 2006 playoff run, Mets’ fans have looked forward to the Subway Series.

And after all these years the Subway Series has lost its initial luster, but now we have the 2015 edition of the Subway Series!

For the first time the two teams will meet with both teams in 1st place, and both teams coming in on a high note.

The Mets are currently riding a 11-game winning streak and owning the best record in baseball (13-3). Their young squad with pitching studs Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom, 2014 Gold-Glove center fielder Juan Lagares, rising star behind the plate Travis d’Arnaud (injured), and Lucas Duda are leading a revival in Queens. Of course we cannot forget about the ‘Captain’ David Wright who was looking like his old self before straining his hamstring.

The Yankees after a slow start, finished a strong road-trip going 7-3 and taking 2 out of 3 from the powerful Detroit Tigers. Working thru a transition from the golden age of the ‘Core 4’ (Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, and Andy Pettitte), the Yanks veterans seem to be coming together with unlikely heroes in Alex Rodriguez and former Mets cast-off Chris Young. Jacob Ellsbury, Brett Gardner and Mark Teixeira round out this experienced team. If they can live up to their impressive resumes they will be a tough team offensively.

This should be a great series, as a Mets fan I am beyond excited! Looking forward to seeing deGrom and Harvey cleanup the Bronx!!!!

HAHA, anyone that knows me knew I was going to at least take one shot at the Skanks!

Let’s Go Mets!!!!!!!!!

Matt Harvey: The Dark Knight Rises

New York Mets’ pitcher Matt Harvey has not pitched in a major league game since he partially tore of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow in August of 2013. That year he dazzled Mets fans with his blazing fastball, reminding them of past aces Dwight Gooden, Nolan Ryan, and Tom Seaver.

Needless to say it has been a long wait for Mets fans to see Harvey back on the mound.

ESPN’s E:60 documents Harvey’s rehab and talks to the young right-hander about surgery, rehab and pitching in NY. The special premiers April 4th, and I have to be honest, as a Mets fan, I got goosebumps watching the trailer….

I Hope Trevor Noah Doesn’t Apologize!

Trevor Noah needs to stay strong and not give-in to the PC crowd complaining about his Tweets.

The PC Police have been busy the past couple of days, first Jamie Foxx and now Trevor Noah.

Foxx and his Bruce Jenner jokes at the iHeartRadio Music Awards landed him in some hot water, and now they are coming for Noah after he was announced to replace Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show.

In the age of social media, it has now become commonplace for people and the media to take a look at your Tweet history. And it took approximately 24-hours to find something wrong with Noah and his comedy.

TrevorNoahTweets

Are these really the kind of tweets that people call “Anti-Semitic” or hateful????

When did we become such a sensitive society????

While watching MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ this morning I couldn’t help but notice that everyone is an expert on comedy. Whenever a politician or someone involved in politics does or says something stupid; they have pundits from both sides (Democrats and Republicans) speak on the issue. These pundits are experts, but in this case no one on the panel was a comedian.

Where was the representation to give the perspective from the comedian?

So far Noah and Comedy Central are standing tall and are not backing down. They each responded with the following:

TrevorNoahTweet1

“Like many comedians, Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included. To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central.” – via Politico

A comedians job is to be funny, and sometimes they will hit a home run and sometimes they will fail miserably. But that doesn’t mean they should be vetted like politicians and watch what they say. Could you ever imagine George Carlin, Eddie Murphy or Richard Pryor worrying about being PC???

Before I go, checkout the late-great Patrice O’Neal talk about the PC cops trying to regulate what’s funny….
