Speaker John Boehner to Retire

Wow, according to the Speaker‘s office, John Boehner will step down as Speaker and he will leave congress by the end of October.

I am shocked by this announcement…. Even though Boehner has had issues controlling his majority in the House, I just never thought he would walk away. Could it be that meeting the Pope yesterday really got to Boehner and put things into perspective for him?

It’s a nice thought that Pope Francis could have that effect, but as Ezra Klein explained in Vox; Boehner was facing a House that’s thirsty for another government shutdown and a possible coup attempt on his leadership.

I can only imagine Boehner, a veteran of Congress had to be sitting and said to himself, “Who needs this shit!”

The Speaker’s office released the following statement

Speaker Boehner believes that the first job of any Speaker is to protect this institution and, as we saw yesterday with the Holy Father, it is the one thing that unites and inspires us all.

The Speaker’s plan was to serve only through the end of last year. Leader Cantor’s loss in his primary changed that calculation.

The Speaker believes putting members through prolonged leadership turmoil would do irreparable damage to the institution.

He is proud of what this majority has accomplished, and his Speakership, but for the good of the Republican Conference and the institution, he will resign the Speakership and his seat in Congress, effective October 30.

While I have not been a fan of John Boehner, the idea of one of these new age Republicans taking his place as Speaker scares the SHIT out of me! They are willing to burn the whole thing down instead of trying to work out a solution that helps both sides.

It should be an interesting next couple of months, stay tuned…

Jeb Bush and Bush Tax Cuts 2.0

If Jeb Bush wants to separate himself from his younger brother, former President George W Bush, then he’s doing a piss poor job.

Jeb Bush announced his tax cut plan to grow the economy close to a 4% clip

  • Cut the top individual tax rate from 39.6 to 28 percent
  • Cut the corporate tax rate from 35 to 20 percent
  • Cut the capital gains tax rate from 23.8 to 20 percent
  • Get rid of the estate and alternative minimum taxes
  • Strictly limit deductions other than for charitable giving
  • Allow businesses to immediately expense their capital investments,
  • Double the standard deduction and expand the Earned Income Tax Credit

So here we go again, Jeb wants to cut taxes for the top 1% and extend the Earned Income Tax Credit for the low-income….

But what about the MIDDLE CLASS!!!

During George W Bush run he had a similar tax cut for the top 1%, and the result of that was the top earners taking up 66% of all income gained. Where was the trickle down that was supposed to help everyone else?

And why should this plan work now when it didn’t work for Dubya?

SMH, Jeb Bush has talked about income inequality but this tax plan is a slap in the face of those who REALLY want to end income inequality.

Sorry Jeb Bush, but your dreams of the economy growing at a 4% rate is pipe dream if you leave the middle class behind.

The Mets had to come from behind in all 3 games to beat the Nationals and they did it in dramatic fashion. MLB captured 2 of the biggest moments in the series in their #THIS campaign

Matt Harvey: Dark Knight or Two-Face?

Once upon a time Matt Harvey said the following….

“The last thing I would want to do is have to sit on my hands … and not be able to pitch in the postseason,”

“Whatever needs to be done to get us there, I’m all for, and whatever they decide for that whole process, I’m completely on board.”

Harvey said this back in spring training when it was being discussed that 180 innings pitched would be a limit after having Tommy John surgery. Now Harvey is at 166 1/3 innings and after his agent Scott Boras spoke out about the Mets pitching Harvey past the 180 innings mark; Harvey had this to say.

“I’m the type of person, I never want to put the ball down. Obviously I hired Scott, my agent, and went with Dr. Andrews as my surgeon because I trusted them to keep my career going and keep me healthy. As far as being out there, being with my teammates and playing, I’m never going to want to stop. As far as the surgeon and my agent having my back and kind of looking out for the best of my career, they’re obviously speaking their mind about that.”

Harvey has come across as being non-committal to pitching past 180-innings, which has him looking more like Two-Face than the Dark Knight to Mets fans

So is Matt Harvey the Dark Knight or Two-Face?

Matt Harvey is Matt Harvey, a competitor caught between a rock and hard place.

He’s the pitcher who battled the Mets and wanted to pitch towards the end of the season in 2014, the same pitcher who resisted the idea of a 6-man rotation, the same pitcher who fights every time Terry Collins removes him from the game, and the same pitcher who threw 157 pitches in college because he refused to leave a game.

Harvey is not Two-Face, he’s a competitor and you can’t fake that, not for any amount of money!

The best thing for Harvey right now is to go out on Tuesday and beat the Nats, and put all of this talk to behind him.

As for the postseason, Harvey the competitor will find a way to make that happen.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Indirectly calls #BlackLivesMatter a Hate Group

Seriously, a hate group???

Monday morning ‘Fox & Friends’ host Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked the following question to conservative commentator Kevin Jackson

“Kevin, why has the #BlackLivesMatter movement not been classified yet as a hate group?”

Hasselbeck asked. “I mean, how much more has to go in this direction before someone actually labels it as such?”

Let me start by saying what has been repeated several times, #BlackLivesMatter in no way states that all other lives do not matter. For example, there are hashtags like #CancerSucks and #CancerSurvivor. Does that mean those who support these hashtags are saying that AIDS/HIV doesn’t suck or that HIV survivors don’t matter?

Yeah, think about for a minute…

Now, getting back to Hasselbeck, she asked the question about Black Lives Matter being a hate group based on the unfortunate events surrounding the murder of a Texas Sheriff Deptuy Darren Goforth. This is a tragedy but it did not happen as a result of the Black Lives Matter movement, it’s a result of a nutbag!

Labeling #BlackLivesMatter as a hate group and putting it on the same level as known hate groups like the KKK is just another distraction to avoid addressing police brutality.

I would ask Hasselbeck and Kevin Jackson how much more has to happen before they acknowledge there is a problem with police shootings? And not just shootings involving Blacks, but EVERYONE!

Update: Hasselbeck tweeted Tuesday evening, “My question was NOT my opinion it was for my guest & was @ the St Paul group (NOT entire BLM) calling for cops to be ‘fried like bacon.”

MLB Denies Shoeless Joe Jackson Reinstatement

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred stated in a letter to the Shoeless Joe Jackson museum that he felt it “would not be appropriate for me to reopen this matter.”

Earlier this year the Shoeless Joe Jackson museum petitioned Manfred to look into reinstating Jackson. The last time Jackson’s reinstatement was looked at was back in 1989 by A. Bartlett Giamatti.

In reviewing Jackson’s case Manfred wrote the following

“The results of this work demonstrate to me that it is not possible now, over 95 years since those events took place and were considered by Commissioner Landis, to be certain enough of the truth to overrule Commissioner Landis’ determinations,” Manfred wrote to the museum.

This could be the definitive ruling against Jackson, as there seems to be a reluctance to undo what was put in place by a former commissioner. With that said Pete Rose and his Stans were more than likely looking at this ruling to get a sense of Manfred’s mindset.

Manfred recently stated that he will be come to a decision concerning Rose by the end of the year. If Shoeless Joe Jackson can’t get any love (with a weaker case against him) then Rose and his lying ass may not have a chance at reinstatement, oh well….

NEWS FLASH Washington Fans, Kirk Cousins STILL Sucks!

FINALLY Jay Gruden made the decision I felt he has been wanting to make since he became head coach of Washington. He benched RG3…. Well Gruden named Kirk Cousins starter for the rest of the season in light of RG3 still feeling the effects of a concussion he suffered in preseason.

But before Washington fans start celebrating the “death” of RG3, I need you all to remember one thing.

Kirk Cousins sucks!!!

I mean RG3 has not been great, but Cousins is not saving the day

CousinsStats

In 2014 the job was all the way Cousins when RG3 dislocated his ankle, but he shat on the money with an inconsistent showing in 4-starts. In one game he threw 4-picks and lost a fumble against the NY Giants, and then he was eventually benched against the lowly Titans for Colt McCoy.

So unless things have drastically changed for Cousins, Washington fans shouldn’t be excited about the Kirk Cousins Era Part 2!
