HBO’s “The Defiant Ones”

Just finished watching the 4-part documentary series “The Defiant Ones” (writing this @ 1am Wednesday morning) and I highly recommend it as a must see. Doesn’t matter if you love music, rap, or rock. It’s a great look into the minds of 2 geniuses, who paths collided to form a unique relationship/bond.

Allen Hughes (Menace II Society) directed the doc starring Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre (Andre Young) giving the audience an introspective look into these 2 brothers from different mothers rise in music industry and business.

Defiant is the proper adjective to describe Iovine and Dre. I already knew a lot about Dre’s story but did learn new things about Dre the perfectionist. As for Iovine, well I’ll be honest… the most I knew about Iovine was that he was a dude rappers would mention in interviews and songs.

At the end of the series you realize the “evil genius” (as one friend put it) of Iovine and the genius of Dre co-existing to create one of the all-time great partnerships. You can’t help walk away from the series motivated to do something, anything HAHA.

“I never celebrated a success. There are no victory laps. There’s no rearview mirror in my car. I’m always moving forward.” That’s the lesson he wants viewers to take from the film. “The most important thing I ever learned: No matter how ugly it gets, keep moving.”

My mistake was watching episodes 2, 3, and 4 at midnight (now 2am Eastern) and now I can’t go to sleep, smh.

As always….

If there is something to be said, “It’s On Broadway” to step up and say it!!
