House Democrats Plan for Ending the Government Shutdown

Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer warned President Trump about shutting down the government over funding for his wall. Democrats in the House and Senate knew that Trump didn’t have the votes for funding the wall, and they knew they had the leverage with Dems taking over the House in 2019.

With Trump’s Government Shutdown heading into its 2nd week, House Democrats are putting together a spending bill to re-open the gov’t without funding for the wall.

As reported by the Washington Post House Dems will look to pass a stopgap spending bill that will fund the Department of Homeland at existing spending levels through February 8th. This will not include funding for the wall

The bill will also include funding for the following depts through September 30th:

Department of Commerce
Department of Homeland Security
Department of Housing and Urban Development
Department of Interior
Department of Justice
Department of State
Department of Transportation
Environment Protection Agency (EPA)
Federal Drug Administration (FDA)
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
Programs related to science, financial services, and other agencies
The National Flood Insurance Program
The Violence Against Women Act
The Pesticide Registration Improvement Act
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
Immigration extensions (EB-5, E-Verify, Conrad 30 program for international medical school graduates, Special Immigrant Religious Workers program, and H2B returning worker authority for DHS)
The Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards Act
Two expiring provisions of the Pandemic All-Hazards Preparedness Act
Medicaid Money-Follows-the-Person and Spousal Impoverishment, through March 31

Action Institute

Pres Trump severely overplayed his hand with this government shutdown, lack of public support (outside of Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter) and he let his ego guide him instead of common sense.

Right now Trump has the protection of the holidays to hide behind as people have been more focused on Christmas and celebrating the New Year. Once the holiday hangover has passed all the focus will be on this shutdown; and I don’t see Trump being able to handle the scrutiny. This is a lonely hill for Trump to die on, it’s time to end the shutdown!

Milwaukee Bucks Website Clowns the NY Knicks

What’s that old saying?

To the Victors Belong the Spoils

New York Senator William L Marcy (1831)

Well the Bucks website is straight shootin’ at the Knicks with no regard, as the Bucks have pretty much owned the Knicks over their last 15 games against each other. Calling Giannis Antetokounmpo The King of New York, mentioning Giannis play against the Knicks being similar to how Michael Jordan would put in work at Madison Square Garden. Stating that New York and the Knicks is just a stage for superstars to show out.

Anyway, as Jordan showed in the 90s, the optimal function of the Knicks in the NBA is to provide a cinematic setting for an opponent to beat them both routinely and savagely. Our pal Giannis, with his thousands of fans waiting for him outside MSG after beating the Knicks, has stepped into this role nicely, and we thank him for it.

Mil Bucks

And that was only the beginning…

While complimenting Kristaps Porzingis, they managed to still take a shot at the Knicks

Genuinely it is too bad that Porzingis is hurt because these games are way more fun when he — the only worthy foe to Giannis — is in there.

Next up…

Lance Thomas. The poor fella guarded Giannis on his step-back game-winner in the Garden. When people think of Lance Thomas (and I am not sure they do!), they should probably think of this.

And of course they left the most fire for Mario Hezonja who dunked on and stepped over Giannis in their last meeting…

Mario Hezonja. Arguably the worst player on a dreadful Knicks team, Hezonja was most recently seen getting a DNP-CD in a loss in a “battle” between perhaps the two worst teams in basketball (Knicks, Hawks). Hezonja, who has fewer dunks this season (8) than Giannis has had in individual games this season, will go down in NBA history as the person whose **** were put on warning by Giannis. Happy Holidays!

WOW!

Man listen, Giannis is a beast on the court and the Bucks are a good team, and these are not Giannis words in disrespecting the Knicks, but every man on the Knicks have to take this personal and send a message Christmas Day. Not looking for a brawl or anything but the Knicks have to come out with fire and passion on the court.

The Knicks may lose the game but you can’t get blown out, leaving the court with your head down. Time to not only stand-up for yourself but also the Knicks fans that pack MSG nightly. The Knicks will not make the playoffs, but here’s a chance to give real Knicks fans something to cheer for the rest of this season.

What To Expect From the State Of The Union

image

When President Obama gives the State of the Union on Tuesday, he will have the challenge of trying to get his 2nd term back on the right track.

With the roll out of Obamacare being a disaster and the whole, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it,” debacle; the president’s approval numbers took a nose dive. Currently, President Obama is hovering around 46% approval, which is not that bad….

The problem is that while Obama is at 46% approval, when you ask Americans in the recent WAPO-ABC News poll about how they feel Obama is handling the economy and the direction of the country. The numbers are not good!

“Just 37% say they have either a good amount or a great deal of confidence in the president to make the right decisions for the country’s future, while 63% say they do not. Those numbers are the mirror image of what they were when he was sworn into office in 2009 and lower than at any other time the question was asked by The Washington Post and ABC News

If only 37% have confidence that President Obama will take the country in the right direction; how can the president get the people to back his strategy on eliminating the income inequality gap?

This State of the Union will have to be more than just a great oratory speech. It will need substance that President Obama will be able to building on for the next couple of weeks; the president is in need of positive momentum. Of course, the Republican House will not look to help Obama in any way.

For the president to gain the trust of the people, he will need to present a plan forward where progress can be measured. If he talks about pie-in-the-sky goals with little to no substance, there will be a collective rolling of the eyes from Americans throughout the country. The American people are ready for action, and if Obama wants to be on the right side of this debate his actions will speak louder than his words.

Militant Mondays – My Problem with GI Joe: Retaliation

the-rock-gi-joe

Let me start by saying that I enjoyed ‘GI Joe: Retaliation’, it’s not a great movie but it was cool and it was a definite step-up from the 1st GI Joe movie.  Even tho I am not a big Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock fan, actually that’s being nice… I usually can’t stomach any movie with the Rock in it, but I was able to put my Rock hate aside to say that he wasn’t that bad in GI Joe.  I was able to get past early on when I realized The Rock was playing the role of Roadblock, that’s cool.  Growing Roadblock was one of my Joes as it was cool see Black hero in a cartoon, plus Roadblock has a big ass gun (Pause), HAHAHA!!!

I can understand why the producer would select The Rock as Roadblock, especially when you realize that unlike the cartoon Roadblock is a main character in GI Joe: Retaliation.

All that was cool, but then….

You have a scene where they show Roadblock’s kids (2 daughters), and they are Black, and then later you see that the movie gives a lil insight into Roadblock’s past when they show that he grew up in the hood.

So why the need to make Roadblock’s kids Black and to insinuate he grew up in the inner-city with Black people?

Clearly The Rock is White, why not just make his character all around White???

Now this is just my opinion but I feel like the producers of GI Joe were trying too hard to keep the connection of Roadblock the cartoon character and Roadblock the character in the movie.  It just didn’t sit to easy with me, you can go ahead and say I am just trying to play some race card or something and that is cool.  But ask your self this question….

In any remake of Superman, can you see the producers making Superman’s biological dad(Jor-El) Black?  Maybe have Samuel Jackson play Jor-El while Superman is still a White guy?

I don’t think so!!

*****UPDATE*****

Apologies, I over simplified The Rock’s ethnicity. He is part Black Nova Scotian (Canadian, Dad) and Samoan (mother)

Militant Mondays – Colin Powell on GOP’s “Dark Vein of Intolerance”

Colin Powell

Colin Powell

I am a big fan of Colin Powell and whenever he does an appearance/interview I try to watch; and his appearance on Meet The Press Sunday was not a disappointment for me.  Colin Powell does not shy away from the fact that he is a Republican but at the same time he is not shying away from expressing his disappointment in the party he grew up with.

I will say that I believe that the term minorities is no longer a term to be identified with a particular race but it’s more about economic status.  The 47% that Mitt Romney spoke about leaving behind is more than just Black people, it’s made up of low-income folks struggling to stay above water.  This is the group of people that so-called conservatives have forgotten.

The GOP will have to get it together if they stand to have a chance in 2016.

Militant Mondays – Chris Matthews Accuses Romney and GOP of Playing the Race Card

I have to apologize as I incorrectly wrote this piece saying that Chris Matthews called Mitt Romney a racist. Chris Matthews clearly said that Mitt Romney was playing the race card in this incident.

As much as I am a fan of MSNBC programming and Chris Matthews infamous rants against Mitt Romney and Reince Priebus.  This morning on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ Matthews went on a rant talking about how Mitt Romney’s “joke” concerning birth certificates was basically the Mitt Romney and the GOP playing the race card.  Matthews went as far as to say Romney is playing the race card.

On Friday at a rally in Michigan, Romney said the following:

“No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place where both of us were born and raised.”

Romney claims this was his attempt at humor and this morning Reince Priebus (Who I think is a prick!) backed up that story and said the president has even joked about his birth certificate.

Was this an attempt at humor for Mitt Romney?

No…

What Romney did there was make an attempt to play up that Birther part of the base.  In playing to that part of the base Romney is playing with fire, its fire that John McCain was unwilling to play with back in 2008.  I commend Matthews for doing what most host and definitely not Joe Scarborough and that is call Priebus on his BS.  When Priebus said that President Obama was looking to Europe for guidance when it came to health care and spending, Scarborough would have never called Priebus on that.  I wonder if Priebus would say the same thing about Bush 43?

Yeah Right!!!

In the video you can see how uncomfortable the rest of the panelist were; because Chris Matthews wears his politics on his sleeve he couldn’t help himself but go on this rant.  What we saw in Matthews was built of frustration of the past 4 years, it will be interesting to see if there will be any blowback from MSNBC Execs.  Matthew could have probably avoided all this if he stayed away from mentioning the “race card”; he would have been fine if he made the argument that Romney should stay away from birther jokes and the likes of Donald Trump and condemn that part of the Republican Party.  Unfortunately once he gets going there is not much stopping him…

In all honesty I did enjoy watching Reince Priebus squirm a bit; ever since he took over as head of th RNC  I have not liked his style in handling the media, who am I kidding???  I think the guy is a dick!!!

Militant Mondays – Russell Simmons and “Our People”

Since Mitt Romney announced Paul Ryan as his running mate I have seen several tweets from Mediaite on Russell Simmons‘ blog post on GlobalGrind.com

My immediate response was, “WTF is Russell doing?”

The reason why I said WTF is that without reading Simmons’ blog post I thought his posting was about how Romney and Paul will “destroy” Black people.  In this economy it’s not only Black people suffering as Whites and EVERYONE is suffering in this Global Recession.  When you make a story about 1 group of people it takes away from your message; White people struggling could look at that tweet or Mediaite headline and be turned off from Russell Simmons overall message.  I don’t care what you tell me, no White person is going to read that headline and think, “Oh yeah Russell is talking about me!”.

But…..

If you read the blog post from Simmons you would read that he is talking about poor people all together; and how our government is being bought by a few rich people.  Russell views a Romney/Ryan ticket as a gutting of services for the middle-class and poor while lining the pockets of the filthy rich (I agree to a certain extent with that thought).  Unfortunately I am fearful that most will not get that message as the focus seems to be on the last sentence in Simmons blog:

“You are two men who will destroy our people and laugh all the way to the bank with your rich friends.” – Russell Simmons

Breitbart.com also used the “Our People” sentence instead of the true title of the blog post.  Simmons blog post is on point and is not the “vitriol” Breitbart.com tries to make it out to be.  There is no hiding Ryan’s budget plan and Romney’s tax plan; for them to reach their goals the spending they propose for defense and tax cuts for the rich have to come from some where.  That some where is the poor, not just Blacks or Whites but all middle-class and poor people!
