30th Anniversary of Challenger Disaster

Hard to believe that it has been 30-years since the tragedy of the Challenger space shuttle disaster.

I can recall the excitement I had watching the launch with my classmates and then 73 seconds into the launch that excitement turned into despair.

Rest in Peace Michael J Smith, Francis R Scobee, Ronald E McNair, Ellison S Onizuka, Christa McAuliffe, Gregory Jarvis, and Judith A Resnik.

Yup, 50 Cent’s First Pitch was the Worst!

By now we have all seen the 1st pitch from 50 Cent before the NY Mets played the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this week.

The consensus has been it was the worst 1st pitch, but The Washington Post took a step further when they posted this visual of some of the worst 1st pitches.

WorstFirstPitch

SMH, Damn 50!

United States Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor showed more skill on her ceremonial first pitch, and look at Michael Jordan….  And he stopped playing basketball to play baseball for a short time.

Curtis Granderson Doesn’t Understand Passionate Fans

When the New York Mets signed Curtis Granderson this past offseason he stated the following about New York Mets fans

“A lot of the people I’ve met in New York have always said that, ‘True New Yorkers are Mets fans,'” Granderson said. “So I’m excited to get a chance to see them all out there.”

Well Curtis, you got what you wished for!

Granderson and the Mets have heard their fair share of boos recently as they have struggled offensively in the early part of the 2014 season.  Granderson had a rough start as he quickly learned that Citi Field is not Yankee Stadium.  In recent weeks the boo birds have been louder and it’s starting to wear on the team.  In a recent interview with Newsday’s Jim Baumbach, Granderson made some interesting comments…

“I understand you’re a fan, but at the same time, you aren’t playing,” he said. “I can see you getting that intense as a player or have played. But if you’re just a fan and watching, enjoy the excitement of the game that is in front of you, win, lose or draw, whatever the case is.”

Wait….  What the hell is Granderson talking about?

This makes no sense, fans don’t have to play the game to have passion/intensity for their team.  Its passion/intensity that makes fans travel to see their team play on road games or stick around to support their team in extra innings.  There is nothing better than having your fan base support and that support is more than just excitement for the game.

Can you imagine the Raiders telling their fan base, “Hey guys, you’re not actually playing the game.  No need to paint your face and dress up in the and go crazy in the black hole.”

Word of advice for C Grand, stay away from insulting the fan base.  Trust me, if you produce the fans will stop booing.

Ex-players Reach Settlement with NFL in Concussion Lawsuit

NFL

Ex-Players (more than 4,500) have reached a potential settlement with the NFL in their concussion lawsuit against the league; it is being reported that the settlement will include a payout of $765 million dollars (pending judge approval).

Ummmm, that’s it!!!

There has to be something in the details, right?

Well, it is also being reported that the NFL will NOT have to admit ANY liability or disclose internal files about what they knew about concussions and links to brain damage.

Hmmm, wasn’t this whole lawsuit about the ex-players trying to get the NFL to admit that they DID know something?  This is without a doubt a HUGE win by the NFL and the timing is perfect for the league with the new season about to start next week.

But hey, who cares? The clock is ticking until opening night and football being back!  Unfortunately the clock is also ticking on the overall health of one of the more critical pieces to the success of the NFL….

THE PLAYERS!!!

Harry Reid and John Boehner

Takeover Thursdays – Goodbye 112th Congress, and hello 113!!

Harry Reid and John Boehner

At 12 noon the 113th Congress will be in session for the 1st time, I can only hope this congress will prove to be more productive than the 112th Congress.  The 112th Congress will go down in history as one of the LEAST productive, and Democrats and Republicans are both responsible for this lack of productivity.  It’s popular to just blame Speaker Boehner and House Republicans, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has done his fair share of “making the sausage” .

“The 113th Congress will convene Thursday at the constitutionally required time of noon … There are 12 newly elected senators – eight Democrats, three Republicans and one independent, former Maine Gov. Angus King, who will caucus with the Democrats. They will be joined by Rep. Tim Scott, the first black Republican in decades, who was tapped by South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to fill the remaining term of Sen. Jim DeMint….

I have hope, but to be honest not a whole lot of hope!

Takeover Thursdays – Man Gropes Woman on NYC Subway while she’s sleeping!

This is one of the craziest things I have ever seen!

I could not believe this story even as I watching the short video that was taken by a passenger (Smiley) on the 4 train in NYC.  At about 3:30 am Saturday morning an unidentified man gets on the 4 train and spots a woman basically passed out.  This nutbag decides he’s going to sit next to the woman and put his hand under her dress, WTF!!!!

As a rider of the NYC Subway system there have been PLENTY of times I have fallen asleep on a late night train back to Queens, but this is insane.  What kind of crazy do you have to be to try something like that?  And it’s not like the woman and the guy were the only people on the subway car.

Smiley was sitting across from the woman when this happened and quickly took a video (as evidence) of the incident and reported to the authorities. Now the question is should Smiley done something to stop the guy before taking the video?

Here is the video that was posted on the Gothamisthttp://gothamist.com/2012/10/22/video_sleeping_woman_sexually_assau.php

Smiley said that he and others on the train yelled at the guy to stop but he would not, eventually the woman woke up when the man tried other things like put his arm around her.  The woman did manage to punch the guy in the face before she got off the train; I can’t imagine what was going thru her mind as she woke up, smh.

In a perfect world we would expect Smiley and the other folks on the train to taken some kind of action other than yelling at the guy.  I myself have played the role of ‘Super Hero’ once or twice, but I am pretty big dude.  There have been a couple of times where I thought afterward that one of these days someone is going to tell me to mind my business and take a swing at me.

So when it comes to Smiley and the others on the train I can’t really fault them for not doing more.  This is NYC and we hear all types of stories of crazy nutbags attacking people, Smiley and others may have hesitated but if a guy is bold enough to jump on a subway car, openly grope a woman and not care who is watching…  There is no telling what else he may do!

Wow, just when you thought you have seen/read it all….
