I am a big fan of Colin Powell and whenever he does an appearance/interview I try to watch; and his appearance on Meet The Press Sunday was not a disappointment for me. Colin Powell does not shy away from the fact that he is a Republican but at the same time he is not shying away from expressing his disappointment in the party he grew up with.
I will say that I believe that the term minorities is no longer a term to be identified with a particular race but it’s more about economic status. The 47% that Mitt Romney spoke about leaving behind is more than just Black people, it’s made up of low-income folks struggling to stay above water. This is the group of people that so-called conservatives have forgotten.
The GOP will have to get it together if they stand to have a chance in 2016.
As always….
If there is something to be said, “It’s On Broadway” to step up and say it!!
Since Mitt Romney and the GOP took that beat down on election night, they have been trying to figure out how can they make a comeback with the young and non-White vote. Being known as the party of the angry White male will not win you any elections when it comes to the presidency. Since November 6th we have heard Conservatives like Marco Rubio and Piyush “Bobby” Jindal talk a good game about immigration reform and being the party that reaches out to 100% of Americans and not just 53%.
In an effort to show he’s hip, Marco Rubio a graduate of University of Florida (Gators) celebrated the #4 Gators beating up interstate rivals Florida StateUniversity in college football with the following tweet:
So Rubio is a fan of Hov (Jay-Z)??
I guess you have to start somewhere…..

For the record i am a Pro-Choice Catholic and I respect Todd Akin’s Pro-Life stance.
But this latest BS….
SMH, As much as I like politics there is no real reason why I should even know who Rep Todd Akin (R-MO)!
Unfortuantely for him not only do I now know who he is but so do many other folks who don’t really follow politics. Akin went national when a local interview went viral, in that interview Akin introduced many folks to the term “Legitimate Rape”…
“If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something, I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child.” – Todd Akin
Wait… WHAT????
This reckless statement took a life of its own where even hardcore Republicans had to distance themselves from Akin and his comment. While there were some Conservatives like Dana Loesch who tried to defend Akin for the most part common sense Republicans see there is no defending Akin’s mentality. Republicans like S.E. Cupp stood up to say the following:
“I don’t fault Akin for his disdain for abortion. But disdain alone cannot be the foundation of policy. And we shouldn’t empower people who prove so unarguably to be so unserious and incurious that they will say just about anything to back up their disdain.” – S.E. Cupp
I can appreciate how S.E. Cupp took the responsible approach and didn’t try to simple defend a fellow Republican. Too many times since 2008 I have seen Republicans (and Democrats) blindly support their party while throwing common sense out the window. In my opinion this type of behavior is dangerous and is the real threat to the United States.
Todd Akin’s way of thinking is out there, and he needs to take a seat. There is no way he should be given the power to cast votes in the United States Senate, no one that believes the female body can shut its reproductive system down in case of rape should be allowed to be a deciding vote on ANY issue in Congress.
It’s time to move on Akin, do what’s right for the Republican party and step down!
To be honest as a Liberal I should be rooting for Akin to stay in the race, there is more of a chance that someone else could step in and actually beat Claire McCaskill (D-MO).

If you know me you know where I stand with ending Bush Era Tax Cuts for the upper 2% wealthy and extending the tax cuts for the Middle/Working Class. It’s very simple, our economy is driven by the middle/working class. Yes the rich spend a lot of money, but when you compare to the amount of money and the number of people considered to be in the middle/working class… There is no comparison!!!
People need to realize 95% Americans (that’s you) were given a tax cut by President Obama!!
President Obama campaigned on letting the Bush Era Tax Cuts for the upper 2% wealthy; so there is nothing new. WE all knew that this was coming and it was heavily supported, no surprises or flip-flopping going on here. In fact letting the tax cuts expire for the wealthy is still widely supported by the American people.
So what’s the problem?
The problem is so-called fiscal Conservatives in Congress are now crying that letting the tax cuts expire for the rich will stifle economic growth and kill jobs. Meanwhile they (Conservatives) also scream about being fiscally responsible; the problem with all of this is that extending the tax cuts for the rich will cost the United States $700 Billion over the next ten years. That’s $700 Billion that will be added to our already enormous National Debt.
The Congressional Budget Office aka CBO (neutral entity) has stated that giving the rich a tax cut is the LEAST effective way to create jobs or stimulate the economy. Ronald Reagan’s budget officer has gone on the record that extending the tax cuts would cause my harm than good (for the record he suggest letting tax cuts expire for Rich and Middle/Working classes).
Let’s see that’s a neutral entity in the CBO against tax cuts for rich and we also have a Conservative who worked for the Grand Daddy (Ronald Reagan) of Trickle Down economics against tax cuts for the rich (and Middle/Working class). Still we have the GOP trying to push the agenda of tax cuts rich and that Liberals are trying to start a class war.
Maybe the American people will ignore the GOP and listen to some one who will be directly affected by increased taxes; Warren Buffet. If you don’t know Buffett; he is rich beyond rich.
How do you think he feels about letting the Bush Era Tax Cuts for the upper 2% (which he is) expire?
“I think that people at the high-end, people like myself, should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we’ve ever had it,” he told ABC’s Christiane Amanpour
Wait, WHAT?
On increasing taxes for the rich…
“The rich are always going to say that, you know, ‘Just give us more money, and we’ll go out and spend more, and then it will all trickle down to the rest of you.’ But that has not worked the last 10 years, and I hope the American public is catching on.”
As I stated in the title of this posting, “If it’s good enough for Warren Buffett…” then it is good enough for the rest of the upper 2% rich!!

Lawrence O’Donnell is famous for his blow ups and hard-hitting style; so when O’Donnell invited 4 leaders of various Tea Party movements you would think these kats would have come to this appearance ready to battle. Instead they allowed Lawrence O’Donnell to make them look foolish; I can’t believe I was actually looking forward to this segment on The Last Word. I have heard my fair share of opinions of what others (mainly Liberals) believe the Tea Party is about, so I thought what could be better than hearing actually Tea Party leaders speak about their beliefs.
I will admit, appearing on O’Donnell’s show is not an easy task. It’s his show and he is a Liberal so you shouldn’t be surprised if your thought will be interrupted in mid-stride. This is not the 1st nor will it be the last hostile interview; so the guests in my opinion have no reason to cry. Lawrence starts off the interview admitting that Social Security and Medicare are Socialist programs; this admission by O’Donnell automatically diffuses many Tea Party arguments. I say this as Tea Parties for the most part always harp on how President Obama and his administration are pushing a Socialist agenda; so O’Donnell gave them the opportunity to jump on those social programs. Only 2 of the panel guest would even broach the topic; it just shows when Tea Partiers talk about cutting spending none of them or really serious. I have yet to meet a Tea Party kat that will talk about cutting one of the largest entitlement programs; Department of Defense!!!
For example listen to Amy Kremer (Tea Party Express) and Max Pappas (Freedom Works). Poor Amy was unlucky enough to be challenged by O’Donnell; he was able to expose her as an unprepared mess full of hot air. When asked to name a program more Socialist than Medicare that needs to be stopped because spending is too high. Her response, “I am not an expert on the US budget…”
Here is a thought Amy, if you are not an expert on the US Budget; SHUT THE HELL UP!!! You can’t talk about spending if you do not understand how certain spending will affect the US budget.
Then you have Max Pappas, LOL!!! This clown sat there for approximately 8 minutes and 57 seconds listening to O’Donnell rip his fellow colleagues and all he could come up with when asked the same question posed to Amy (name a program more Socialist than Medicare that needs to be stopped because spending is too high) was a eliminating a subsidies that would save you $1 billion. I know a billion is nothing to sneeze at but when the National Deficit is 13.6 Trillion and you are being asked to come up with 1 program that you would cut; the first answer out of your mouth is a weak $1 billion?!?!

Can’t even deny it any more, I tried not be attracted to Amy Holmes but it’s not working any more. I am willing to look past her Conservative views as no one is perfect, besides the curly-curl hair be calling me; HA!!
For those of you not familiar with Amy here is a brief bio:
Amy Holmes is a CNN political contributor and conservative commentator. She appears regularly on The Situation Room and across all networks, including the network’s prime-time line-up in programs such as Larry King Live and Anderson Cooper 360º.
Prior to joining CNN, Holmes served as senior speechwriter to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) from May 2003 to July 2006, writing on topics ranging from economic and energy policy to judicial nominations and the Iraq war. Before that she worked for the CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, which oversees AmeriCorps, and helped build the non-profit Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) as economic project director and campus project director. While at IWF, Holmes oversaw and edited the organization’s labor statistics guide, “Women’s Figures: An Illustrated Guide to the Economics of Women in America.”
Holmes, a registered independent, has been a familiar face on television news and talk programs. – via CNN.com
Mary Matalin and James Carville
Being the Liberal/Moderate I am I realize there are number of political and moral issues Amy Holmes andI will disagree on but why should I let that stand in the way of what could possibly be a great couple. The perfect example of a couple that made it work while working on opposite sides of the aisle; James Carville and Mary Matalin. So there is no reason why we can’t make it work; here Right Wing views will keep me towards the center and my Left Wing views will keep her from that dangerous extreme Right and the Tea Party.
Amy might lack the ‘Street’ smarts I like my women to have but I am willing to look past that as she brings so much to the table. I can probably carry enough ‘Street’ smarts for the both of us, HA!!
So with that said I am putting it out there, hopefully this blog will find its way to Amy. If so Lets Make it Happen Ms. Holmes!!!

I just watched Pat Robertson say that Islam is about “World Dominance” and that building a Mosque near the World Trade Center is like Islam planting a flag and gloating in the face of 9/1 victims. Robertson is the latest Republican nutbag to spew hate. To think this fool tried to cleanup his comments by saying it’s ok if Muslims want to build a Mosque in other parts of New York but not in downtown Manhattan.
Pat seems to conveniently forget about all the Christian Missions all over the world whose main goal is to spread Christianity throughout the world. There are many that will say that is a form of “World Dominance”. Here is the Mission Statement of Catholic Missions from http://www.catholic.com/home/about.asp
Catholic Answers is an apostolate dedicated to serving Christ by bringing the fullness of Catholic truth to the world. We help good Catholics become better Catholics, bring former Catholics “home,” and lead non-Catholics into the fullness of the faith. We explain Catholic truth, equip the faithful to live fully the sacramental life, and assist them in spreading the Good News.
This sounds like wanting to spread a particular message to the world, “dedicated to serving Christ by bringing the fullness of Catholic truth to the world.”
Pat Robertson is what is dangerous with our country; I hope people see thru this phony nutbag for what he really is!
I am a Catholic, but I realize and understand you show respect for other religious beliefs even if they go against yours!

It’s time for the Democrats outside of the President to step to the forefront and start conveying the message needed to hold off a Republican takeover. Democrats are caught in a catch-22 right now as there best speaking voice happens to be an unpopular speaking voice; President Obama. Currently Democrats are trying to figure out the best way to use the President on the campaign trail; while the President received a raucous welcome at the University of Texas there was no sign of Democrat Bill White who is running for Governor of Texas. If Democrats want to hold onto control of the House (not likely) and Senate the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Charles Schumer, and Barney Frank have to start putting their stamp on the message. Republicans like John Boehner and Mitch McConnell are always in front of the cameras; I know this because their foolish comments are always great material for political satire for shows like The Daily Show, Countdown (Keith Olbermann) and The Rachel Maddow Show.
If the Democrats want to generate excitement they have start making their presence felt daily; I feel like the only consistent message I get from Democrats is from the White House, Robert Gibbs specifically. The message should be real simple for Democrats to voters; REPUBLICANS HAVE NO PLAN!!!!!
Well I shouldn’t say they have no plan; they have actually come together and agreed to say NO to anything Democrats want to do. Even if that means making the less fortunate suffer; for example Republicans decided they could not support extending unemployment rates BUT they could support extending Bush Tax Cuts that only affect the top 2% in America. And how do Republicans plan on paying for those Bush Tax cuts??? Well at first they said they shouldn’t have to be paid for as the tax cuts will generate growth. That explanation was quickly dismissed by many economist including Conservative economist, so Republicans decided to ok lets float the idea of raising the retirement age…
WTF, so Republicans want hard-working middle/working class Americans to break their backs until they are 70 so that they could retire and earn social security. The current early retirement age is now 62 for those wondering.
Does this make any sense to anyone???
Does it make sense for working/middle class Americans to work longer so that the likes of Bill gates can get a tax cut??
This is what Democrats need to talk about, President Obama wants to continue giving 95% of Americans a tax break while Republicans would rather turn their back on the working/middle class!!
Other Talking Points Democrats need to focus on….
Republicans talk about supporting small business but they are blocking legislation that would help small business. The Small Business Jobs Act would create a $30 billion fund for community banks to lend to small businesses. It would also increase limits on existing Small Business Administration (SBA) loans and give small businesses additional federal tax breaks.
Republicans tried to block the passage of $26.1 Billion State-Aid Package that would save the jobs of 161,000 teachers and 158,000 public works employees (cops, fire fighters etc..). Republicans referred to teachers, cops and fire fighters as special interest groups. The bill also helps states going broke to fund Medicaid.
Republicans wanted to protect BP; the company that caused the oil spill in the Gulf. While Democrats wanted to raise the cap for damages from $75 million to an amount that would actually cover the cost. $75 million is not nearly enough, but Republicans wanted to protect the Big Oil Companies.
Republicans who run on the platform of repealing the 14th Amendment are insane, HA!!!! Constitutional Amendments are very very difficult to pass; a perfect example of this is the Equal Rights Amendment aka ERA. It was first proposed in 1923 to affirm that women and men have equal rights under the law; it is now 2010 and this is still not an amendment. Any Republican pushing the idea of changing the constitution is a nutbag.
In my opinion if Democrats talk about these basic Talking Points no sane individual could possible support the current Republican agenda. In all honesty it’s not like Democrats have it all figured out but at least I can see some kind of a plan. Now if we can get Republicans (except Paul Ryan) away from just saying no and actually presenting some ideas then maybe we can start making real progress.

Rudy Giuliani, Sarah Palin and the rest of the punk ass Conservatives please do your home work before speaking on topics you really have no clue about. As I stated in my posting WTF/WTH Wednesday – Disarmament; Republicans have started their attacks against President Obama since he released his plans for reducing Nuclear weapons along with reducing the threat of Nuclear weapons. At one rally the “Nutbag Twins” aka Bachmann and Palin took their shots at the President; they showed their true ignorance as they obviously did not take the time to read the strategy. Palin made the following comparison:
“It’s unbelievable. Unbelievable. No administration in America’s history would, I think, ever have considered such a step that we just found out President Obama is supporting today. It’s kinda like getting out there on a playground, a bunch of kids, getting ready to fight, and one of the kids saying, “Go ahead, punch me in the face and I’m not going to retaliate. Go ahead and do what you want to with me.”
WOW, Sarah Palin really just pulled that out of her ass! The following is the proposed strategy from the President:
Non-nuclear states that abide by the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty would not be threatened with nuclear retaliation by the United States — even if they conducted conventional, biological or cyber attacks. But, he added, “If you’re not going to play by the rules, if you’re going to be a proliferator, then all options are on the table in terms of how we deal with you.”
Hmmmm, seems pretty clear to me! If you’re a non-nuclear state that abides by the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty you will not be threatened with nuclear retaliation. Just because the U.S. will not use nuclear weapons to retaliate doesn’t mean we will not bomb the shit out you using conventional weapons! Palin really does not understand how a Nuclear Weapon should be used, it’s as if she wants to use nuclear at the drop of dime. I need the “Nutbag Twins” to fall back, they are too dangerous!
Then we have Rudy Giuliani former Mayer of NYC, here is another guy that needs to do his homework. I seem to recall Giuliani calling upon the great days of Ronald Reagan and his Conservative ways during his Presidential Campaign. I wonder if Giuliani ever studied Reagan and his policies? He seems to be very ignorant to what one of the great Conservatives all-time felt about Nuclear weapons. Giuliani made the following statements concerning President Obama’s strategy:
Mr. Obama’s new policy is the work of an “inept” leader with a “left-wing dream,”
“A nuclear-free world has been a 60-year dream of the Left…”
Giuliani calling a nuclear-free world “a 60-year old dream of the Left…” is very interesting. Here is a little video of former President Ronald Reagan talking about Nuclear weapons and its place:
According to Giuliani, Reagan is a dreamer from the Left! LMAO, Ronald Reagan is the gold standard by which all Conservatives measure themselves against. Shame on you Rudy…..
Reagan stated about reducing nuclear weapons, “Search for ways to reduce the danger of nuclear war…..” and then he followed by saying, “There will be risks and results will take time….”.
How is it that the likes of Giuliani, Palin and Bachmann can’t seem to understand Reagan’s vision of reducing the danger of nuclear war?
One of the more powerful statements by Reagan in that speech was the following, “We seek neither military superiority nor political advantage….”. Conservatives like Giuliani, Palin, and Bachmann need to re-evaluate their ideology and better understand what this world is really about and how precious life is!

GOP it’s time to tell your party to STOP the frivolous lawsuits against the new Health Care legislation. The mandate of everyone purchasing Health Insurance is legal and covered by the Commerce Clause along with the Necessary and Proper Clause. These lawsuits are a waste of time and tax dollars; the various Republican state attorney generals and governors are pulling political stunts on the taxpayer’s dime.
While states are going broke you have Republican attorney generals and governors acting like a bunch of babies. In Georgia a Republican governor wants to impeach the Democrat attorney general for not pursuing a lawsuit against the Health Care legislation. Where has all the common sense gone? Republicans will continue to FAIL if they don’t start focusing on jobs and fiscal responsibility.
The GOP latest behavior is only part of the overall systemic problem facing this country.
That’s right; I want the Republicans to be good at something! Yes it is fun to laugh at the scandals of the RNCC and Michael Steele but the fact remains that Democrats cannot turn around this terrible economy by themselves. There are some very smart people on the Republican side of the aisle; the likes of Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan have bright futures ahead of them. If Republicans like Cantor and Ryan can get away from the ideology of being the party of “NO” America will be better suited to turn this mess around.
The GOP needs to stop being SORE LOSERS!!!
The nasty rhetoric by John McCain needs to stop. He recently stated, “There will be no cooperation for the rest of the year. They (Democrats) have poisoned the well in what they’ve done and how they’ve done it.”
C’mon Son! Your like 90 years old, stop acting like a kid who didn’t get his way and now taking his ball and going home.
The United States of America is not Liberal or Conservative. The majority of this country is Moderate; I am Liberal in many of my social views but I do believe in being a fiscal Conservative. Having those view points creates balance; it’s this balance which the country is sorely missing right now!!
Let’s REALLY be about…….
