Stephen A. Smith’s flawed vote for Republican Theory

Full Disclosure, I am not a fan of Stephen A Smith so I don’t have many good things to say about this kat. This goes back to him appearing on Larry King’s show around 2009. And I have gotten into a couple of Twitter wars with Smith. At this point I believe he has blocked me, but all well. I hope this gets back to him some way, haha!!!

Stephen A Smith once again caused a stir this week when during a speech he suggested that all Black Americans should at least vote once for Republicans. Smith’s rationale was that the Democratic party has taken the Black vote for granted and that this would force both parties to realize they have to do a better job courting the Black vote.

So my initial reaction to Smith was……

image

I will say that Stephen A Smith has a valid point about the Democratic party taking the Black vote for granted, but he completely loses me with his suggestion of just voting for Republicans. While a situation where all Black Americans voted for Republicans would be a shock to the system of the Democratic party; why would that motivate the Republican party to court the Black vote?

At that point they (Republicans) get what they want in votes without having to do anything!

But hey, maybe there was something I was missing with Smith’s logic.

Ummmm, nah!!!!

On Michael Smerconish show on CNN, Smith went on to double-down on his logic without a good handle of the facts. Smith clearly states that he puts most of the blame on the Black Community, and barely mentions that the GOP has some work to do on their side.

As I stated earlier there is some validity to Smith saying the Dems take the Black vote for granted. We (Black people) should not blindly give our vote to any party, but at the same time BOTH parties, not only the Dems should give Black people and all voters a reason to vote for them.

If Stephen A Smith wants to convince me that I should not look at the GOP as the enemy then he has to explain to me why the GOP looks as me as the enemy.

When it comes to issues like Voting Rights, Tax cuts, Immigration, Income Inequality, and decreasing the number of uninsured Americans (want to repeal Obamacare with no replacement).

Smith talks about Democrats painting Republicans as bad guys but never speaks on what exactly Dems are wrong about. If Smith wants me and others to take him seriously he has to have a better grasp of the facts and stop demonizing (yes I said demonizing) Black Americans as being the uninformed.

Chris Christie Wins BIG in New Jersey

h_cover_0121

The people of Jersey spoke and they spoke in a BIG way as Chris Christie was re-elected as Governor of New Jersey.

Christie a Republican won a whopping 60% of the vote in New Jersey a Blue state, and he was able to do this even though the people in New Jersey disagree with their governor on some major issues like raising minimum wage.  Also in a head-to-head battle New Jersey would back Hilary Clinton for president.

But there will be plenty of time to look at a possible Christie versus Clinton presidential campaign.  Until then, lets look at the road to 2016 for Christie and the GOP.

It’s time for the extreme right-wing of the GOP to step aside and let Conservatives like Chris Christie shine.  Don’t worry about him hugging President Obama, worry about results.  GOP candidates do not have to be more Conservative, that is a losing formula these days and it’s dragging down the Republican party.  On MSNBC’s Steve Schmidt (former McCain Campaign strategist) talked what’s next for Christie and he mentioned a professional speech writer.  IMO, that’s the last thing he needs, the GOP needs an injection of excitement not another canned candidate.

Can Chris Christie avoid the pressure of being a canned candidate and the pull of the extreme right?

Legally Married Same-Sex Couples Can file taxes as Married Couple

Treasury Department and IRS announced that legally married same-sex couples can file their taxes in the same fashion as heterosexual married couples. Even if the couple lives in a state that does not recognize same-sex marriage they can file as a married couple as long as they have been married in a state that does.

Yes same-sex married folks, you now have to deal with your partner knowing how much you REALLY make. No complaining now, you wanted married life and now you got it… HAHA!!

Just kidding, this is great for equality. My religious beliefs may disagree with same-sex marriage but those are my beliefs (which I disagree with) and not something I believe EVERYONE else has to follow or else they will burn in hell.

I wonder if Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the GOP will accuse the IRS of targeting same-sex married couples in order to verify they are filing correctly????

Militant Mondays – Colin Powell on GOP’s “Dark Vein of Intolerance”

Colin Powell

Colin Powell

I am a big fan of Colin Powell and whenever he does an appearance/interview I try to watch; and his appearance on Meet The Press Sunday was not a disappointment for me.  Colin Powell does not shy away from the fact that he is a Republican but at the same time he is not shying away from expressing his disappointment in the party he grew up with.

I will say that I believe that the term minorities is no longer a term to be identified with a particular race but it’s more about economic status.  The 47% that Mitt Romney spoke about leaving behind is more than just Black people, it’s made up of low-income folks struggling to stay above water.  This is the group of people that so-called conservatives have forgotten.

The GOP will have to get it together if they stand to have a chance in 2016.

Marco Rubio evokes Jay-Z to celebrate Gators win….

Since Mitt Romney and the GOP took that beat down on election night, they have been trying to figure out how can they make a comeback with the young and non-White vote.  Being known as the party of the angry White male will not win you any elections when it comes to the presidency.  Since November 6th we have heard Conservatives like Marco Rubio and Piyush “Bobby” Jindal talk a good game about immigration reform and being the party that reaches out to 100% of Americans and not just 53%.

In an effort to show he’s hip, Marco Rubio a graduate of University of Florida (Gators) celebrated the #4 Gators beating up interstate rivals Florida State University in college football with the following tweet:

So Rubio is a fan of Hov (Jay-Z)??

I guess you have to start somewhere…..

Militant Mondays – Chris Matthews Accuses Romney and GOP of Playing the Race Card

I have to apologize as I incorrectly wrote this piece saying that Chris Matthews called Mitt Romney a racist. Chris Matthews clearly said that Mitt Romney was playing the race card in this incident.

As much as I am a fan of MSNBC programming and Chris Matthews infamous rants against Mitt Romney and Reince Priebus.  This morning on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ Matthews went on a rant talking about how Mitt Romney’s “joke” concerning birth certificates was basically the Mitt Romney and the GOP playing the race card.  Matthews went as far as to say Romney is playing the race card.

On Friday at a rally in Michigan, Romney said the following:

“No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place where both of us were born and raised.”

Romney claims this was his attempt at humor and this morning Reince Priebus (Who I think is a prick!) backed up that story and said the president has even joked about his birth certificate.

Was this an attempt at humor for Mitt Romney?

No…

What Romney did there was make an attempt to play up that Birther part of the base.  In playing to that part of the base Romney is playing with fire, its fire that John McCain was unwilling to play with back in 2008.  I commend Matthews for doing what most host and definitely not Joe Scarborough and that is call Priebus on his BS.  When Priebus said that President Obama was looking to Europe for guidance when it came to health care and spending, Scarborough would have never called Priebus on that.  I wonder if Priebus would say the same thing about Bush 43?

Yeah Right!!!

In the video you can see how uncomfortable the rest of the panelist were; because Chris Matthews wears his politics on his sleeve he couldn’t help himself but go on this rant.  What we saw in Matthews was built of frustration of the past 4 years, it will be interesting to see if there will be any blowback from MSNBC Execs.  Matthew could have probably avoided all this if he stayed away from mentioning the “race card”; he would have been fine if he made the argument that Romney should stay away from birther jokes and the likes of Donald Trump and condemn that part of the Republican Party.  Unfortunately once he gets going there is not much stopping him…

In all honesty I did enjoy watching Reince Priebus squirm a bit; ever since he took over as head of th RNC  I have not liked his style in handling the media, who am I kidding???  I think the guy is a dick!!!

Talking Points Tuesdays – President Obama failure on Gun Control….

In 2008 candidate Barack Obama talked about re-instituting the Federal Ban on Assault Weapons; 4 years later we have a witnessed tragic shootings that have left a member of the United States House of Representatives (Gabrielle Giffords) recovering from being shot in the head and senseless murder/injury of innocent people trying to watch the latest Dark Knight movie (Dark Knight Rises).   While it is true that you cannot say for sure that these shooting could have been prevented with stricter gun control laws, what can be said is that the weapons used in the attacks would have been banned (AR-15 and extended magazine clip).  Of course having a ban of such weapons doesn’t guarantee no violence but it’s a start.  The last thing we should want to do is make it any easier for NUTBAGS like James Holmes to be able to purchase firearms and ammunition.

And as much as I will defend President Obama on some of his policies, I CANNOT DEFEND HIM ON THIS!

The NRA and nutbags within the GOP would have you believe that President Obama wants to take away your guns.  Well that is simply not true as President Obama has not done anything when it comes to gun control.  What’s sad is that Obama had the perfect opportunity to take up the fight of gun control when Representative Giffords was shot in the head; she survived along while 6 others died that day including a 9-year-old girl.  He had the sympathy of the nation but nothing was done….

There is no indication even if the president won re-election that he will pursue the federal assault weapons ban. Jake Tapper of ABC News reported that the White House has suggested that the president does not have the appetite to pursue stricter gun control laws.

“The president’s views on this are, as he has stated and as he spelled out in the op-ed that was published in an Arizona newspaper, which is that he believes we need to take steps that protect Second Amendment rights of the American people but that ensure that we are not allowing weapons into the hands of individuals who should not, by existing law, obtain those weapons…” – WH Press Secretary Jay Carney (reported by Jake Tapper)

Basically the president is saying, he has to SHOW that he is not planning to take people’s guns away as he can’t afford to lose any possible votes to Mitt Romney.

Sorry Barack, but if you have no appetite now when will you have one?

Hopefully we will not see another tragedy like Aurora, but then again didn’t we say that after the shooting in Arizona????

In case you forgot below here are some of the regulations included in the Federal Assault Weapons Ban:

Assault weapon (semi-automatic) refers primarily (but not exclusively) to firearms that possess the cosmetics of an assault rifle (which are fully-automatic). Semi-automatic firearms, when fired, automatically extract the spent cartridge casing and load the next cartridge into the chamber, ready to fire again; they do not fire automatically like a machine gun, rather, only 1 round is fired with each trigger pull.

In the former U.S. law, the legal term assault weapon included certain specific semi-automatic firearm models by name (e.g., Colt AR-15TEC-9, non select-fire AK-47s produced by three manufacturers, and Uzis) and other semi-automatic firearms because they possess a minimum set of cosmetic features from the following list of features:

Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:
Semi-automatic pistols with detachable magazines and two or more of the following:
  • Magazine that attaches outside the pistol grip
  • Threaded barrel to attach barrel extender, flash suppressor, handgrip, or suppressor
  • Barrel shroud that can be used as a hand-hold
  • Unloaded weight of 50 oz (1.4 kg) or more
  • A semi-automatic version of a fully automatic firearm
Semi-automatic shotguns with two or more of the following:
  • Folding or telescoping stock
  • Pistol grip
  • Fixed capacity of more than 5 rounds
  • Detachable magazine

The earlier term assault rifle refers to rifles that are capable of fully automatic fire. By that definition the ban did not cover “assault rifles” at all. Instead, it created a new definition of “assault weapon,” a term that was broad enough to encompass all three categories of firearm (rifle, pistol and shotgun) capable of semi-automatic fire and having a combination of features as listed above, but did not include fully automatic firearms of any type.

Jobs Report Friday, What’s in Store for Us?

Once again we will get a look into how our economy is doing today, it’s Jobs Report Friday!

Yaaaayyyy!!!!!

Ok, may be there will be no cheering by the masses but there could be cheering within Team Romney.

Earlier this week it was reported that manufacturing did shrink in some areas, but there is still slight growth.  Overall this is not good news for the Obama Administration that had seem some traction over the past week.  Mitt Romney and the GOP have been tripping over themselves when it comes to discussing the Healthcare Mandate… Or is it a tax?  And there is the problem for Romney, he has gotten off message and for whatever reason he refuses to get back to the economy.

Well today’s jobs report should help Romney and the GOP get back to the state of the economy.  Now I will admit I am no expert in this but with manufacturing numbers showing a bit of a slow down, that there would be a similar effect in job creation.  For example, if there is a slow down in producing products or ordering inventory then that can be an indicator that consumers are not buying goods which would lead to stores not needing to re-fill their inventories.  If store owners don’t have to restock their shelves then that infers business is slow, if business is slow aka no demand then there is no need to hire resources to meet demand.

But who knows, there have been times when analyst have predicted low job numbers and we have seen great job creation.  Mitt Romney needs a bad jobs report to get his campaign back on track. I am predicting the number of jobs created for the month of June will fall short of 100K, if that turns out to be true that will mean a bad weekend for Team Obama.
