Takeover Thursdays – Michele Bachmann

Photobucket

I felt the need to introduce this nutbag to you all; please remember the name Michele Bachmann. She is a Republican Representative from Minnesota and she is borderline nuts!!!! She is the perfect example of insanity on the Right that will hold this country back. Her ideas of what are “Big Government” ways of intrusion into our personal lives are so far Right she might be on an island by herself. We have to watch out for people like Bachmann, she is the type of person that would tell you that the government has planted microchips in us to track our every movement, LOL!

Seriously this broad is out there, where should I begin????

Let’s start with Bachmann’s views on Climate Change; she made the following statement about Carbon Dioxide, “Carbon dioxide is not a harmful gas, it is a harmless gas. Carbon dioxide is natural; it is not harmful…. We’re being told we have to reduce this natural substance to create an arbitrary reduction in something that is naturally occurring in the earth.” I will admit part of this statement is true but she seems to leave out the other sources of CO2; http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/emissions/co2.html

The lunacy doesn’t stop there, in June 2009 Bachmann talked about her concern about the upcoming Census in 2010. It seems as if her fears of big government hit an all-time high as she feared the Census was “very intricate, very personal”, and that, “the only question we will be answering is how many people are in our home, we won’t be answering any information beyond that, because the Constitution doesn’t require any information beyond that.”. That’s right folks watch out for the big bad Census, WTH!!! What respectable member of Congress acts this way???? She would rather people follow her nutbag ways than ensure her constituents were accounted for and received proper representation.

This is the insanity that is driving the extreme Right-Wing part of the Republican Party and the Tea Baggers of the Tea Party Movement. I know there are smart people in Minnesota, how is this nutbag still in office?

It’s time to Takeover Michele Bachmann’s seat in the House of Representatives; someone please dumped this psycho in Lake Minnetonka!

WTF/WTH Wednesdays – Wake Up GOP!!!

GOP it’s time to tell your party to STOP the frivolous lawsuits against the new Health Care legislation. The mandate of everyone purchasing Health Insurance is legal and covered by the Commerce Clause along with the Necessary and Proper Clause. These lawsuits are a waste of time and tax dollars; the various Republican state attorney generals and governors are pulling political stunts on the taxpayer’s dime.

While states are going broke you have Republican attorney generals and governors acting like a bunch of babies. In Georgia a Republican governor wants to impeach the Democrat attorney general for not pursuing a lawsuit against the Health Care legislation. Where has all the common sense gone? Republicans will continue to FAIL if they don’t start focusing on jobs and fiscal responsibility.

The GOP latest behavior is only part of the overall systemic problem facing this country.

That’s right; I want the Republicans to be good at something! Yes it is fun to laugh at the scandals of the RNCC and Michael Steele but the fact remains that Democrats cannot turn around this terrible economy by themselves. There are some very smart people on the Republican side of the aisle; the likes of Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan have bright futures ahead of them. If Republicans like Cantor and Ryan can get away from the ideology of being the party of “NO” America will be better suited to turn this mess around.

The GOP needs to stop being SORE LOSERS!!!

The nasty rhetoric by John McCain needs to stop. He recently stated, “There will be no cooperation for the rest of the year. They (Democrats) have poisoned the well in what they’ve done and how they’ve done it.”

C’mon Son! Your like 90 years old, stop acting like a kid who didn’t get his way and now taking his ball and going home.

The United States of America is not Liberal or Conservative. The majority of this country is Moderate; I am Liberal in many of my social views but I do believe in being a fiscal Conservative. Having those view points creates balance; it’s this balance which the country is sorely missing right now!!

Let’s REALLY be about…….

Talking Points Tuesdays – Barry got his Swagger..

After a year-long battle of pushing Health Care Reform (HCR) and taking all the bumps and bruises being dished out by the Republican Party. On January 19th it seemed as if all the Hope and Change promised by President Barack Obama was all but lost, on this day Scott Brown (a Republican) won the special election in Massachusetts. How could this happen? How could Democrats lose the seat once owned by Teddy Kennedy? With that loss the Democrats lost their Super Majority and seemingly lost the political weight they had. Republicans celebrated, Democrats pointed fingers at each other and pundits talked about HCR being dead and Democrats having to find their course once again. That night the country supposedly spoke and the country was telling the Democrats Fall Back!

I remember sitting there thinking this is the President’s moment and he needs to step-in and take control of the Democratic Party and right the course. The next day President Obama stepped up and set a new course for his administration, he made it known immediately he was not giving up on HCR. Obama went against many of his advisors and decided to take the Republicans head on concerning HCR. He attended the House Republicans retreat and successfully challenged their mis-information campaign. As Republicans continued to ride the coat-tails of Scott Brown’s victory, the President pushed forward hitting the streets talking straight to the people. Not from the White House but in the people’s backyards, holding rallies reminiscent of the campaign trail. Slowly but surely Obama started to regain that energy wave he rode into the White House; but that wasn’t enough. The President needed another stage to show he would not back down in the face of the Republicans; that stage would be the HCR Summit at Blair House. In a room full of Democrats and Republicans Obama was able to dictate the flow and impose his will.

At the HCR Summit Obama displayed the power of the presidency; in a very subtly way the President referred to each Senator and Representative (Democrat and Republican) by their first names; John (McCain), Mitch (McConnell), John (Boehner) etc…. Meanwhile each Senator and Representative referred to Obama as Mr. President. Again, this was very subtle but very critical in making sure everyone knew who was in charge. Obama walked away from the HCR Summit with another win while acknowledging there were very good ideas by Republicans and they would be incorporated in his HCR bill.

At this point the rest is history as HCR passed and is now law and the President is back on his grind!!!!

Photobucket

Since the HCR Summit the party of “NO” aka Republicans have seen some in their party vote in favor of bills supported by the President. It wasn’t that long ago when that would have never happened, for example some Republicans supported a Jobs Bill (including Scott Brown). When the HCR bill passed the House Republicans vowed to derail the Reconciliation process in the Senate, no matter how long it took. Well, Republicans only lasted a couple of days and folded as the HCR fixes were signed into law. Where is Boehner’s aka “Tan Man” tough talk???

Once the President won the battle of HCR he regained his SWAGGER; we have all seen the you-tube clip of then candidate Obama talking about brushing his shoulder off:

Well now it looks like President Obama’s iPod is bumping “Swagga Like Us”. Barack aka Barry got his Swagger back!!

You know I remember Tavis Smiley saying something very interesting during a book signing. He said, “You can’t govern like you campaign….”. Meaning, when on the campaign trail you’re trying to please everyone and win a popularity contest. When you govern there are times when you will not be popular and you have to be ok with that. It seems as if the President has learned that in the start of his 2nd year. We should see lessons learned from the HCR debate as the President looks to push Regulatory Reform through. The President will look for Republican support but if it is not there he will not wait, he has momentum on his side and he cannot give it up.

The President has put the Republican party on notice; either support the Regulatory Reform or be seen siding with Big Banks. Oh yeah, if Republicans want to run their November 2010 election campaigns on “Repealing HCR”, as the President stated, “GO FOR IT!!”

Free Flowing – Fake Memos….

So this is what it has come to, Republicans using a fake memo of Democrat Talking Points to derail Health Care Reform (HCR). This fake memo details what Democrats should talk about and focus on while giving interviews or making appearances concerning HCR. The memo attempts to protrait Democrats as liars who are trying to dupe Americans into supporting HCR.

Republicans at this point are desperate and they are beginning to realize the mistake they made in not being part of what will be history. After a year of obstruction Republicans have gained nothing; and leading up to the vote to pass the Senate version of HCR they have resorted to fake memos.

Desperate times calls for desperate measures and that was clearly evident when Representative Scott Garret (R-NJ) read the fake memo on the floor of the House of Representatives. Big mistake Rep Garret, did he really think his little show was going to be unchallenged (should have read my post Takeover Thursdays – Anthony Weiner). He must have been absent earlier this year when Rep Anthony Weiner from NY ripped Republicans for their phony ways. In front of everyone Weiner called out Garret and asked him to produce the source of the document, Garret was quiet.

If HCR is so bad for the people you shouldn’t have to lie to show that!

Check out the video of Rep Weiner doing what he does best:

Takeover Thursdays – Almost there….

So after a year and a couple of months it appears that we ar in the home stretch. Health Care Reform (HCR) will be a reality for close to 30 million. This has been a long hard-fought battle that has taken its toll on President Obama and the Democrats in Congress, but the finish line is in sight. The official countdown starts now as the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released the scoring of the latest Health Care Reform bill. If you recall after the Health Care Summit at the Blair House President Obama added several key Republican points, so the numbers we heard previously concerning the cost of Health Care Reform could change ever so slightly. So what were the CBO findings?

The bill will cost $940 billion over the first 10 years and reduce the deficit by $130 billion during that period. In the second 10 years — so, 2020 to 2029 — it will reduce the deficit by $1.2 trillion. The legislation will cover 32 million Americans, or 95 percent of the legal population.

So what exactly happens once The House and Senate pass HCR and President Obama signs the legislation into law? This is a great question and to be honest before last night I could not answer that question, but thanks to Rachel Maddow and her show I have a better idea of what happens next. Please keep in mind the following is a representation of what the HCR bill looked like as of last night.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) releases the score of the HCR Bill ($1.2 Trillion in deficit savings over 20 years) Nancy Pelosi promised that she will delay the House from voting on the Senate version of the bill for 72 hours. She wants to give everyone a chance to review the legislation and understand any changes that were made. With the CBO releasing their scoring of the bill today, the House will more than likely vote on the bill either Sunday or Monday. In the past couple of days there has been some controversy surrounding a House tactic known as “Deem and Pass”. This is a maneuver that will allow the House to pass a bill without actually having a roll call vote on the legislation; it is technically known as a “self-executing rule.” A self-executing rule is essentially a two-for-one special; when the House votes to adopt a self-executing rule, it simultaneously adopts a separate bill or amendment, which is specified in the rule itself. In short, the House “deems” another bill to be passed as soon as it adopts the rule. I know it’s a little confusing; as of right now it has not been decided how the House will handle voting for the HCR Bill.

The legislation will then go back to the Senate to pass any fixes they will apply to the bill; hopefully it will be voted on by the Senate by Easter. Once the bill is passed by the Senate they will then send the bill to the President for final signature that will turn the legislation into law.

Within 90 days:

• The government will create High-Risks Pools that will provide people without health insurance due to pre-existing conditions with immediate to care.

Next 90 days:

• No child will be denied health coverage because of a pre-existing condition

• No longer can insurance companies apply Lifetime Limits on the dollar value on benefits (according to PricewaterhouseCoopers removing limits would reduce Medicaid costs by $1 billion per year)

• Insurance companies will be banned from rescinding coverage if you file a claim. Once you have insurance you will be covered. End of Rescission.

By 2011:

• Anyone with Medicare will be eligible for free annual Wellness visits

• Insurance companies will have to spend 80-85% of what you pay in premiums do towards actual medical care. If they do not spend 80-85% the insurance company will have to pay the difference back to the customer.

• There will be a review of any health insurance rates that are being raised. Insurance companies will have to announce potential rate hikes and submit the proposed raise in rates for review and justify that raise.

By 2014:

• Insurance companies will no longer be allowed to deny anyone coverage due to pre-existing conditions.

• The Insurance Exchange will provide an exchange for anyone without health insurance to shop for affordable insurance. This exchange will be created and maintained by the government. This setup will mimic what federal employees have access to.

• Insurance companies will no longer be able to apply Annual Limits on the dollar value on benefits (according to PricewaterhouseCoopers removing limits would reduce Medicaid costs by $1 billion per year).

Information is still pouring concerning the HCR bill; for example as I am writing this I just learned that the so-called Medicare “doughnut hole” will be closed this year. Medicare drug plans now stop paying for prescriptions each year once the government and the consumer have spent $2,830 on them. The benefit resumes once annual out-of-pocket spending reaches $4,550.The bill would close that so-called “doughnut hole.” This year, beneficiaries who hit the doughnut hole limit would get $250 rebates.

Hopefully this posting will help clear up some of the confusion associated with Health Care Reform. In the coming days you will hear a lot of information about the HCR bill; both negative and positive. Without a doubt this bill is not perfect and there still a lot of work to be done (Public Option); all I ask is that you keep yourself informed. It’s all about the facts and that goes for both Democrats and Republicans. Here are some sites you can visit to help separate fact from fiction; for example any conversation about this HCR bill creating Death Panels is absolutely absurd. If you don’t believe me look it up yourself:

UPDATE:
President Obama will sign the HCR Bill before the Senate will review the fixes voted on by the House. It is expected the president will sign either 3/23/2010 or 3/24/2010. The Democrats in the Senate arehoping to pass the fixes tot he Senate version of HCR by the end of the week (3/26/2010). This could be dragged out until Easter.

Takeover Thursdays – Anthony Weiner

If you don’t know Representative Anthony Weiner (D-NY), you better get to know this kat!

Rep. Weiner performed his own version of a ‘Takeover’ Wednesday morning in the House of Representatives. In about 7 minutes Rep Weiner summed up all of the frustrations of the White House, Democrats/Progressives in the House and Senate and the American people who support Health Care Reform (HCR).

Finally someone took it to the Republicans as Anthony Weiner started his rant by telling Republicans, “You guys have chutzpah (audacity)…”. Weiner’s Brooklyn side came out on this day, he took the floor of The House like a thug from BK taking a street corner.

In the wake of the Health Summit, Rep Weiner went on a rant pointing out the hypocrisy of Republicans and Democrats. Twice during his rant Weiner was stopped as he called Republicans, “wholly owned subsidiary of the insurance industry…”. Basically saying that Republicans are in the hip pockets of the insurance companies and will do whatever to protect those companies; aka BITCHES for Health Insurers.

When he made that statement Rep Lungren (R-CA) asked that Weiner’s “words be taken down…”. Lungren is saying here that Weiner’s comments are inappropriate and requesting that they be stricken from the record. In doing this Lungren is able to interrupt Weiner and have him restate his comments using different language. After a short delay Weiner is then permitted to continue.

In one of the more Gangsta moments you will ever see in The United States House of Representatives; Weiner refuses to change his comment and basically continues to call Republicans the BITCH of Health Insurers. Again Lungren interrupts Weiner request his “words to be taken down”. Once Weiner is allowed to continue you can still feel the fire and passion from him. He rips Republicans for standing in the way of real reform, change that is good for the people. As Weiner is wrapping up his diatribe he points out that the long-standing hypocrisy from Republicans is coming to an end, “Enough of the phoniness. We are gonna solve this problem because for years our Republican friends have been unable to and unwilling to. Deal with it!”

Here is the video of Rep. Weiner’s rant:

Democratic Senators & Representatives need to watch this video and take notes. For too long Democrats took the high road and tried to have intellectual debates about HCR, we saw this time and time again during the summer with all the town hall meetings. That message was not being heard by the masses; Rep Weiner message Wednesday was heard by all and is the perfect lead-in for the Health Summit taking place Thursday morning!

Talking Points Tuesdays – Health Care Reform (HCR)

Photobucket

In light of the Health Care Summit that will take place this Thursday (2/25/2010) I would like to take a minute and attempt to breakdown President Obama’s Proposal for Health Care Reform (HCR). The summit will begin at 10am and last until 4pm, and if your interested in viewing this you can check it out on CSPAN3.

Before I start I would like anyone reading this Blog to ask themselves one question:

Do you believe that every United States Citizens should be able to afford Health Care Insurance?

In my opinion I believe every citizen of the United States should have health insurance. There I said it, call me a Socialist all you want. In our society the phrase “affordable Insurance” is an oxymoron; depending on where you live the cost of health care varies. For example in New York the annual premium health plan was $13,296, while a similar plan in Iowa was $5609 (cost of someone purchasing Health Care on their own since their job or lack of job does not offer insurance).

Even if you are lucky enough to have insurance there is no guarantee you will be covered if you were to ever get sick. Imagine you have a perfectly good job and your job offers great insurance plans. Every paycheck you see your money going towards paying for your health care coverage; you wish more of that money would come to you but hey it’s worth the security, right?? Well, you get sick and this is considered a catastrophic illness (severe illness requiring prolonged hospitalization or recovery). Your insurance will eventually run out and the hospital bills will continue to pile up. Sooner or later it gets to be too much and you can longer survive under the mountain of the bills.

Most people will look at that scenario above and say to themselves well that has not happened to me and I am all good, who does that really happen to? Folks this is very real, 60% of the personal bankruptcies in the United States are due to Medical bills. It doesn’t matter how rich you are; Health Care in this country is out of control!

– 1980 U.S. spent $253 Billion in Health Care cost
– 1990 U.S. spent $714 Billion in Health Care cost
– 2007 U.S. spent $2.2 Trillion in Health Care cost
– 2009 U.S. spent $2.7 Trillion in Health Care cost

Back in 2007 31% of the Health Care cost went to hospital care, and that number will continue to increase as the number of Americans without Health Care continues to rise. It is projected that nearly 7 million people will lose their insurance coverage, a large part of that number comes from people who will lose their job or be denied insurance because of a pre-existing condition. Only the Health Insurance industry can report record earning while losing that many customers. How could that be?

Its simple the less sickly people who insurers have to cover the more money than can save, they can also raise rates and without worrying about competition. Look at Anthem Insurance in California, they will raise their rates 39%. Who can afford that? We know poor people can’t but I know many middle class people cannot afford that type of raise hike. To put it in perspective, say you are paying $700 a month for insurance (which is a lot) with Anthem’s rate hike you’re looking at almost $1000 a month for health insurance. WOW, this is insanity!

If this spending continues and we continue to allow insurance companies to PROFIT off of our illness this country will go bankrupt!

With all that said what will President Obama’s plan do to help cover more people and bring cost down? Let see…..

The President’s Proposal:

• It makes insurance more affordable by providing the largest middle class tax cut for health care in history, reducing premium costs for tens of millions of families and small business owners who are priced out of coverage today. This helps over 31 million Americans afford health care who do not get it today – and makes coverage more affordable for many more. The government will put limits on how much anyone will have to pay to receive health care coverage. And depending upon your income, you may be among the tens of millions of Americans who will get a tax credit to help pay for your coverage.

• It sets up a new competitive health insurance market giving tens of millions of Americans the exact same insurance choices that members of Congress will have.

• It brings greater accountability to health care by laying out commonsense rules of the road to keep premiums down and prevent insurance industry abuses and denial of care.

• It will end discrimination against Americans with pre-existing conditions.

• Allow purchasing Health Care Insurance across state lines. Remember my earlier example of how someone paying for insurance in Iowa is a lot cheaper than purchasing insurance in New York (New York the annual premium health plan was $13,296, while a similar plan in Iowa was $5609).

• It puts our budget and economy on a more stable path by reducing the deficit by $100 billion over the next ten years – and about $1 trillion over the second decade – by cutting government overspending and reining in waste, fraud and abuse.

For more information about President Obama’s plan; http://www.whitehouse.gov/health-care-meeting/proposal

Some will argue that it is not fair for hard-working Americans to help subsidise coverage for the less unfortunate (poor people). In other words some feel that if you can’t afford insurance oh well! If your poor aka lazy (not my words, their words), I should not have to pay for them to get coverage. People wake up, you are already paying for those who are uninsured! Those without insurance or forced to go to hospital emergency rooms for care, when you use emergency rooms as your primary physician (doctor you would use for annual checkup) it is a lot more costly; approximately $1000 per patient. Who do you think pays for that $1000 visit??? U.S. taxpayers, it’s called a hidden tax. So no matter what we are paying for poor aka lazy people; if you have insurance you will be less inclined to avoid going to the doctor. Something as simple as an annual checkup could prevent a small issue turning into something bigger.

Very simple pay a price now in providing 30 million more Americans health care or pay a larger price allowing that 30 million uninsured to use emergency rooms across the United States.

If anything else I implore people to do the research, and figure it out for yourself. This proposal includes Republican ideas, no more excuses John Boehner and Eric Cantor. No more false rumors about Death Panels, government choosing your doctor, or illegal immigrants being covered. If you don’t believe me check it out yourself!

26 Lies About Health Care Reform; http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/twenty-six-lies-about-hr-3200/

By the way, for the people who say we should not focus on this as job creation is more important. The Center for American Progress estimates that 250,000 to 400,000 jobs will be created by Heath Care Reform; http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2010/01/pdf/health_care_jobs.pdf

Let’s stop the nonsense, pass Health Care Reform. The U.S. ranks #1 in Health Care cost but at best we are middle of the pack when compared to other nations. So let us not wait until it’s too late, it is time for reform. 1 Trillion is a lot of money, I can’t deny that. When you look at how much we spent last year it is cheaper to fix than to leave it alone. 1 Trillion < 2.7 Trillion!!!
