NY Mets fire Manager Mickey Callaway #MetsTwitter #LGM

The Mickey Callaway era with the NY Mets is now over, and I can admit, I was wrong.

When the Mets named Callaway the manager back on October 23rd in 2017, I was all-in. I believed in what Callaway did as a pitching coach and his belief in analytics and it being used in baseball. While Mickey wasn’t my first choice (Alex Cora) I felt Mickey was the best next thing.

I was so confident in the hire that I talked trash on Twitter and referred to Callaway as a top 5 managing candidate at the time.

Clearly, I am not ready to be a GM yet, LOL!

Callaway struggled with handling the bullpen, although I will give him a pass for the most part when it comes to the pen. The talent wasn’t there and it’s difficult to manage a pen when relievers are not doing their jobs. What could not be forgiven was Callaway’s in-game moves with pinch hitters and being out maneuvered by opposing managers.

A perfect example of this was a couple of weeks ago, with the Mets in the hunt for the playoffs. Callaway allowed the Phillies to pinch-hit Bryce Harper to hit against Tyler Bashlor (Righty), and explained he wanted to get Phillies regular old reliever Mike Morin out of game. We are not talking about Mariano Rivera here…

While it’s not great that the Mets must find a new manager, this is different from previous years. This is a Mets team that has talent, a young core in Pete Alonso, Amed Rosario, Jeff McNeil, Michael Confronto, and a pitching staff that is formidable (Jacob deGrom). For the first time in a long-time, this is team that can attract top managerial candidates.

Of the top candidates, Joe Maddon and Joe Girardi would be at the top of my list. As of right now the word is Maddon will head west to take the Angels job. If that’s the case Joe Girardi would have to be the guy previous experience handling the NYC market and not afraid of the bright lights.

But…

If I had a dark horse, Houston Astros’ manager AJ Hinch, who could be looking for a challenge and good friends with Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen.

Yankee Fans Relax, You Still Have a Good Team

Yes, last night was a disappointing moment for New York Yankee fans. With the acquisition of Giancarlo Stanton, Yankee fans had dreams of Stanton and Aaron Judge hitting 100 homers combined in a season.

But unlike the great Yankee teams led by Derek Jeter, the 2018 Yanks lacked strong pitching and a lineup of hitters that worked counts and frustrated pitchers. Still, the Yankees are still in good position to compete for an number of years. They have a number of young talented players ready to step up, while older players like C.C. Sabathia and Brett Gardner have probably seen their last days in pinstripes.

Players like Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar (soon to be AL Rookie of the Year) have already produced at the major league level, with Chance Adams (P), Domingo Acevedo (P), and Clint Frazier (hopefully can get past concussion issues) seemingly ready to contribute at the next level.

24-hours have not even passed, and fans are already pining for Joe Girardi, talking about signing Manny Machado and Bryce Harper… STOP IT!!!!

So Yankee fans, as my guy N.O.R.E. would say, “You Gotta RELAX!”

Of course, what do I know… I’m just a Mets fan that hates the Yankees

Another Baseball Season Over for NY

Well NYC another baseball season is over with but those boys from the Bronx will not celebrating this year.  Sorry Jo Girardi no #28 this year, I guess you will have to keep that uniform # for one more year.  As a Mets fan I understand I really don’t have much to talk about since my squad was out of the playoff hunt by the 1st week after the All-Star break; but as a Yankee Hater watching the Texas Rangers take down the Skanks was very enjoyable.

SoYankee fans come join me on the couch as WE sit back and enjoy the rest of the playoffs and World Series; make sure you bring plenty of popcorn.  Oh yeah leave Nick Swisher at home, no room for whining lil punks, HAHA!!

By the way you may have 27 rings, but for right now just know that NY Mets fans as well as Mr Met are loving this moment….
