Carmelo Anthony Visits Rikers Island….

Carmelo Anthony worked hard during the offseason to get himself back on the court for the New York Knicks and he has worked just as hard off the court to promote his brand.

Part of Melo’s brand is his work with VICE SPORTS and his video series #StayMelo. In the latest installment of #StayMelo Anthony visits Rikers Island jail facility in NYC. Rikers has been in the news over the past year with a number of issues ranging from violence to corruption with the administration of the site.

Overall the judicial / prison system in the United States is in dire need of reform. This video only sheds a very small amount of light of what’s going on, and it’s not to say that Melo visiting Rikers changed anything but maybe it’s the start of something bigger.

P.S. For those of you who have missed it President Obama also visited a prison…

Takeover Thursdays – Lin, “Now I’m definitely relieved”

I’m trying to move on from all this Jeremy Lin craziness, but I was intrigued by Ian Begley’s interview with Lin the day after the Knicks decided not to match Houston’s offer.

What I expected was the usual talk when a beloved athlete leaves, “I love the fans” and “I wanted to play here for the rest of my career”…  Except, what I read made me look differently at what Lin might have been thinking as talks started to heated up.

One particular comment from Lin that caught my…

“Honestly, I preferred New York,” Lin told Sports Illustrated. “But my main goal in free agency was to go to a team that had plans for me and wanted me. I wanted to have fun playing basketball. … Now I’m definitely relieved.”

2 things stand out with what Lin said; “my main goal in free agency was to go to a team that had plans for me and wanted me”.

Lin told SI that he met with Mike Woodson in late June and said that Woodson talked about Lin being the starter and being a big part of the team.  Lin also stated that Dolan told him before Game 5 versus the Miami Heat,

“I have plans for you in the future,”

“This is a long-term investment. Don’t rush back (referring to Lin returning from knee injury).” – James Dolan

Now that to me sounds like the Knicks met Lin’s “main goal in free agency”

So what happened?

In my opinion the last sentence of Lin’s quote says it all…

“I wanted to have fun playing basketball. … Now I’m definitely relieved.”

All Lin talks about is how he loved the NY fans and that he preferred playing in NYC, so if you’re not playing in the preferred city you wanted to play in…  What exactly is he so relieved about?

After all the Linsanity and winning an Espy, could it be that Lin was feeling the pressure?  I mean at the end of the day this is still NYC, and the media here builds you up just so they can knock you down.  And with the Knicks fan base resting all their hopes and dreams on the shoulders of Lin, may be just may be basketball would not be as fun as he thought he could be.  Yes the Knicks have Amare and Melo, but it was Lin who had the Garden rocking like no other time during that EPIC 8 game winning streak.

There was no question Lin was going to sign with someone, so I just don’t get the relief he felt.  Of course I could be over analyzing this, smh.

How many more days until NFL Kickoff???

MSG’s Al Trautwig mistakenly refers to Amar’e Stoudemire Bulging Disc as “Bulging Dick”

Al Trautwig just had one of those moments that will live on in cyberspace….

While doing the opening of the Knicks vs Bucks game Al slipped up and referred to Amar’e Stoudemire‘s private area

I can’t even imagine the amount of jokes being launched at Al within the MSG family and the players, poor Al!!

Playoff Basketball back at MSG!!!!

For Knicks fans Games 1 & 2 were pure agony; so close in both games but we came up empty.  That was then and this is now… The Celtics come to NYC and to the Mecca of Basketball, Madison Square Garden.  Its been a long time since there was a playoff basketball in the ‘GARDEN’ and the MSG will be rockin!!!

I am expecting another close contest in Game 3 and if Amar’e is healthy we should see him looking to make his presence known after not being there for Game 2.  Hopefully Turiaf can shake off a bad knee and we desperately need Landry Fields to contribute like he was earlier in the season.  Down 2-0 seems impossible but you never know…

Outbounds with Knicks Chick, JJ’s not-so-welcome back!

Anyone who has followed Knicks Chick knew that this video blog was coming; Welcome Back Jared Jeffries!!!

Knicks Chick is definitely a lot nicer in evaluating Jared Jeffries this time around; she is correct in stating that there are many in the media that are speaking highly of Jeffries as if he was the 2nd coming of Charles Oakley.  Jeffries is a nice player who in the right situation can help your team; and I think we might be seeing a pretty good fit for the Knicks right now.  But as Knicks Chick points out lets not act like JJ is the low post defender that is the missing piece.

If JJ can play 10 minutes a game and grab 5 boards while being some kind of a presence in the post I will be thrilled!!!

Hopefully we will not have to resort to the “Incentive” based contract idea Knicks Chick offered; if so I think it will be in JJ’s best interest if he retires right now, HAHA!!!

All in all I believe JJ will help more than hurt the Knicks this time around; with that said checkout the recent edition of Out of Bounds with Knicks Chick….

LOL, not sure if Knicks Chick meant it, but I believe she gave JJ a subliminal finger when counting what he doesn’t do.

I will say she makes a very good point about all the talk around the height we gave away in the Melo trade; people have to keep in mind that Mozgov was not a real defensive presence in the post or a menace on the boards.  Mozgov at best would be an offensive center that would happen to grab rebounds due to his height; I hated to see Mozgov go but let’s be real…

WE GOT MELO!!!!!

‘Hello Melo’ The Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks Song

With all the excitement of the Knicks trading for Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups it seems like everyone is jumping on YouTube and saying something to celebrate a new era in Knicks basketball.

One of the funnier clips I have watched on YouTube was sent to me via twitter from @SwiftandAbudant , I have to admit I admire the enthusiasm of Knicks fans and it seems that Blaze and Willie G (in the video) have put some time and energy into the production and lyrics.  It is a little weird with all the pictures of Melo on the wall behind them; it’s not something I would do but hey it’s not my video.

Oh yeah, can someone tell me if that is a Casio homey is playing… LMAO!!!!!

Out of Bounds with Knicks Chick, STAT and Melo….

So you knew it was only a matter of time before Knicks Chick let her thoughts be known about the acquisition of Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups.  Along with her thoughts about the trade she also took a minute to take a couple of shots at a few LOUDMOUTH Radio Sports Talk Show Hosts (Stephen A Smith and Brandon Tierney).  For true Knicks fans like Knicks Chick and myself we tend to become a lil frustrated with idiotic so-called ‘Sports Analyst’ who speak before thinking.  If you follow me on Twitter (@BobbyBroad) you have already seen a couple of my rants against Stephen A Smith; well now Mr Smith has a new critic….

LMAO, I told y’all this she is tough.  Did you peep the shot she took at Shawne Williams?

If you thought that was bad wait until the Knicks sign Jared Jeffries aka Mr Indiana Basketball!!!!

P.S. Shout out to Knicks Chick (@KnicksChick) for the mention during her video blog, I am honored by the mention

Knicks Chick goes in on Shawne Williams and other NBA news

So a couple of Fridays ago I wrote about my homey Knicks Chick and her love for the New York Knicks and everything NBA.  I decided that I will help spread her special NBA commentary by featuring her video blogs on It’s On Broadway.

You can also find her on Hoops Vibe as well as her YouTube page – The Knicks Chick

I will say this I think she missed an opportunity to get at Shawne Williams and D’Antonio aka Mr. Pringles some more; or maybe I missed that blog??  For example can someone explain to me how Shawne Williams gets so much burn?

Anyway, checkout the latest edition of Out Of Bounds….

For the record I have always loved Kevin Garnett and his tough playing style; reminds me of Charles “The Oakman” Oakley

By the way Knicks Chick, with baseball season starting up again can I get something a lil bigger than the big baseball reppin the NY Mets HAHA!!
