Pres Obama, “Private Sector is doing fine…” WTH!!!

President Barack Obama

What will be a tight presidential race, President Barack Obama cannot afford to make any mistakes.  This morning during his press conference President Obama said the following,

“The Private Sector is fine…”

The president stated this while making a point that 4.3 million private sector jobs have been created since he took office….

SMH, ohhhhhhh Mr President!!!!!!

In light of a VERY weak jobs report last week (69K jobs created in May) and slow in growth, WTH was the president thinking saying such a thing?  This is a bad mistake by Obama who usually doesn’t make mistakes like this.  In a matter of minutes Speaker Boehner was tweeting about the president’s gaffe

“President Obama says “the private sector is doing fine” — millions out of work, 8%+ unemployment for 40 months #doingfine?”

On top of that Speaker Boehner and his right-hand man Majority Leader Rep Eric Cantor held a rebuttal press conference to address the president’s speech on the economy.  This was an already scheduled speech for the GOP and now this mistake by President Obama will be highlight of the GOP press conference.  Expect to see a nice attack ad from Mitt Romney and the Super PACs as soon as this weekend if possible if not it will be ready 1st thing Monday morning for the fresh news cycle.

It has definitely been a tough week for President Obama and Democrats, on top of this latest mistake the party had to deal with the loss in the Wisconsin Recall on Tuesday and former President Bill Clinton stating that NOT extending the Bush Tax Cuts would be bad for the economy.

This is a bumpy start to the re-election bid now that Romney will be the GOP representative, but it’s still early.  Obama and David Axelrod have to tighten things up, these mistakes are not campaign killers but this will be a close race and if mistakes like this keep happening….

These mistakes will soon become insurmountable!!

Takeover Thursdays – Politicizing Bin Laden’s Death

Since the Obama Campaign released the ad touting President Obama‘s decision to take out Osama Bin Laden; Democrats and Republicans have criticized the ad as politicizing the death of Bin Laden.  Accusing the administration of unfairly using that moment for the  benefit of President Obama re-election bid.
Arianna Huffington called the ad “despicable”
Senator John McCain said Pres Obama should be “ashamed” for politicizing the Bin Laden’s death.
KNOCK IT OFF!!!!
For Republicans to talk about politicizing a moment may I remind them of President George W. Bush and the color coded terror alert system after 9/11… Leading up to the election in 2004 it seemed like the terror alert was being raised to create fear.  At the same time Republicans portrayed Senator John Kerry as being weak on defense and a vote for him was a vote for weakness.  Now that’s a SHAMELESS act, Kerry was a decorated veteran but that didn’t stop Republicans.
Republicans have always looked to portray Democrats as being weak on defense; remember Jimmy Carter and Michael Dukakis???
Who can forget the tank ad against Dukakis…

There is nothing wrong with President Obama reminding the American people that he is more than capable of making the tough decisions.  I hope the campaign stays the course with this ad, credit where credit is due!

We all know without a doubt that if Navy Seal Team 6 had failed to get Bin Laden Republicans and Mitt Romney would be exploiting that in attacks ads every day.

As for Democrats like Arianna Huffington, MAN UP!!!

President Obama Addresses the Nation on Dangers of Default

Pres Obama addressed the nation Monday night but he really didn’t say anything new; well he did ask Americans to call their congressmen/women and let them know they support compromise and a balanced approach of reducing the deficit.

Obama once again stated his desire for a compromise between Democrats and Republicans; a compromise would include both sides giving in on long-standing beliefs.  Those beliefs being….

  1. Democrats – Cuts to entitlement programs; Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid
  2. Republicans – Raising taxes to increase revenues

The president believes you cannot truly reduce the deficit by simply reducing spending; he is of the opinion that reduction in spending will only hurt growth in the economy and set the country on the track for a double-dip recession.  Obama seem somewhat serious about a long-tern solution that will not only raise the debt ceiling through 2012 but it will also significantly reduce the deficit.

In his address to the people Obama described the stalemate and clearly pointed out that it was a select ‘Significant’ group on the Republican side that seemed to be holding up any deal that would raise the debt ceiling.  President Obama even went as far as invoking the words of former President Ronald Reagan (who raised the debt ceiling 18 times).

The next couple of days will be very interesting as Republicans seem hell-bent on the president failing and the Democrats will continue to fight any cuts to entitlements, many believe the Obama will fold and give into Republicans.  But is it really folding when so much is on the line?

As President Obama stated,

“The American people may have voted for divided government, but they didn’t vote for dysfunctional government…”

RAISE THE DEBT CEILING!!!

By the way it seems like the American were listening to the president when he said people should contact their congressional representatives; shortly after his address it was reported that the websites of congressional sites were down.

President Barack Obama to speak at 9pm (Eastern) about Debt Ceiling

Previously the president has given updates concerning the debt ceiling negotiations during the day, for the president to reserve a 9pm time slot for this announcement would leave one to believe this is a somewhat major announcement.

At this point we have 2 paths to select from….

  1. Harry Reid has presented a proposal of $2.7 Billion dollars in cuts that do not include any increase in revenue.  Important to remember that Speaker Boehner and the GOP have said all along that raising the debt ceiling will have to include cuts equaling or greater than the amount being requested to raise the debt ceiling about $2 Trillion dollars.
  2. Speaker Boehner and the GOP is looking for a short-term deal where the debt ceiling will be raised to get thru this year and then another debt ceiling vote will take place in 2012.
President Obama has been adamant that he is looking for a long-term solution (similar to Harry Reid’s plan); the president is looking to provide stability so to give confidence that this debate will not happen again.  The hope is this will return the focus back to job creation and keeping the economy moving in a positive direction.
At this point it looks like the Democrats will be unable to broker any deal containing revenue generation; this is a disappointment But the GOP may have shot themselves in the foot.  In the ‘Grand Bargain’ deal Obama offered a tax hike that was less than if he simply let the Bush Tax Cuts expire at the end of 2012.  If the GOP continue to refuse to accept revenue generation in this debt ceiling deal, Obama will go hard on letting the Bush Tax Cuts expire and Republicans will basically be responsible for large tax hike they could have avoided.
All in all it will be interesting to hear what the president will be announcing at 9pm; some how we have to get pass this debt ceiling issue before default 8/2/2011.  Hopefully we can avoid serious damage being done to credit rating as a nation; any downgrade of the United States credit rating will have an effect on ALL of us!!!

Speaker Boehner breaks off talks with Pres Obama on debt ceiling

Once again Republicans have basically walked out of discussions concerning reducing the deficit and raising the debt ceiling; this time instead of it being Eric Cantor this time it’s Speaker Boehner.  Pres Obama in latest talks offered Speaker Boehner $1 Trillion in cuts plus $650 Billion more in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security; this latest offer was more “Generous” than what the Gang-Of-6 plan was offering.

With this latest walkout the president has asked Congressional Leaders to show up to the White House 11am tomorrow morning and that everyone should come with some kind of plan to avoid default.  Obama indicating that we have reached a point where the debt ceiling HAS to be raised now through 2012 and that talks would continue after debt ceiling is raised on reducing the deficit.

If Pres Obama manages to get a clean vote raising the debt ceiling (meaning no stipulations for the raise) he may have pulled off one of the greatest bluffs ever.  Many Republicans (Tea Party kats including Rand Paul) ran on the platform that they will not raise the debt ceiling without significant cuts to the deficit.  If the debt ceiling is raised with specific reductions agreed upon, Republicans will lose what leverage they had in this fight.  The GOP Congressional Leadership should have challenged the president and taken him up on his offer on the cuts and entitlement reforms.  1st Republicans turned down an initial grand bargain deal that would have had $4 Trillion cuts and possibly significant reforms to entitlement programs.  Instead Republicans declined the deal because it included eliminating many Corporate Tax Loopholes that would have raised revenue.

And now Republicans are rejecting an offer by the president that is more “Generous” than what the Gang-of-6 were proposing; WTF!  Most analyst agree that what the Gang-of-6 was offering was more than fair to the GOP an would have hurt the hardcore Liberal.

Instead Republicans want no parts of a balanced approach to reducing the deficit, they would prefer deficit reduction be done by hurting the middle class and poor.  Polls favor Pres Obama in this debate, #1 the American believe the debt ceiling should be raised and#2 they favor a balanced approach to reducing the deficit; meaning not only cutting spending but also raising revenue to reduce our national debt.

Republicans may have squandered a GREAT opportunity to not only reduce the deficit but also a chance to reform entitlements.  If the debt ceiling is raised with no stipulations, the momentum swings back in the favor of the president and the Democrats.  They can play hardball in defending Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Hey Republicans, You Know You Done Fucked Up Now, You Know That, DONT YOU!!!!!

Talking Points Tuesdays – Ronald Reagan on Raising Debt Ceiling

It is now becoming a daily occurrence for President Obama to make a statement of the dangerous game Republicans are playing with our economy if they do not vote to raise the debt ceiling.  At this point I think we have heard ALL of the different ways to describe what will happen if the debt ceiling is not raised and the most commonly used word….. Catastrophic, might be the most over-used word in the English language right now.

But….

As the August 2nd deadline to raise the debt ceiling approaches Secretary of Treasury Timothy Geithner, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Ben Bernake, Moody’s and S&P have all stated the blow a failure of raising the debt ceiling will cause to our growing but still fragile economy.

Standard & Poor’s has warned lawmakers privately that it would downgrade the country’s debt if the Treasury Department is forced to prioritize payments because Congress does not raise the debt limit  – S&P

“A default on Treasury debt could lead to concerns about the solvency of the investment funds and financial institutions that hold Treasury securities in their portfolios, which could cause a run on money market mutual funds and the broader financial system — similar to what happened in the wake of the collapse of Lehman Brothers. As the recent financial crisis demonstrated, a severe and sudden blow to confidence in the financial markets can spark a panic that threatens the health of our entire global economy and the jobs of millions of Americans.”   – Sec. of Treasury Tim Geithner

“Would likely push us into a double dip recession.”– Sec. of Treasury Tim Geithner

“It’s not something you want to play around with — the United States would be forced into a position of defaulting on its debt…  And the implications of that for our financial system, for our fiscal policy, for our economy would be catastrophic.”– Fed Chairman Ben Bernake

And even with all the warnings House and Senate Republicans continue to talk about NOT raising the debt ceiling.  Stop me if you have this before, NUTBAGS like Michele Bachmann and Sara Palin continue to tweet and go on talk shows talking about Geithner has it all wrong and that Republicans should “Reload” and not “Retreat” when it comes to voting against raising the debt ceiling.

So if Republicans and their nutbag friends refuse to listen to the Tim Geithner’s of the world, who could possibly convince them of the dangers of not raising the debt ceiling????

How about Ronald Reagan aka Mr. Conservative…..

Here is the text of what Reagan was saying in this address about the debt ceiling:

Congress consistently brings the Government to the edge of default before facing its responsibility. This brinkmanship threatens the holders of government bonds and those who rely on Social Security and veterans benefits. Interest rates would skyrocket, instability would occur in financial markets, and the Federal deficit would soar. The United States has a special responsibility to itself and the world to meet its obligations. It means we have a well-earned reputation for reliability and credibility – two things that set us apart from much of the world.

This was a speech Reagan gave back in 1987, but the message still resonates 24 years later!

What Pres Obama has been saying all along about the debt ceiling mirrors what Reagan said back then; if Republicans don’t want to believe a Liberal like Obama maybe they will listen to their Conservative hero Ronald Regan

WTF/WTH – Wednesdays Lupe Fiasco on Bill O’Reilly

Lupe Fiasco going up against Bill O’Reilly to discuss Lupe’s comments about President Obama being a “Terrorist” was pretty much boring TV.  I will give credit that Lupe was not shaken and many people in that same situation have been flustered by the style of O’Reilly.

But…..

Lupe had one major slip up in his defense of his comments; he stated the reason we went into Afghanistan was to find Osama Bin Laden.  To say that the United States presence in Afghanistan was solely about Bin Laden is just not true.  O’Reilly corrected Lupe and explained the U.S. went to Afghanistan for more than just Bin Laden, it was about taking away a safe haven for Al-Qaeda as well removing the ruling government at that time; the Taliban.  Who were providing Al-Qaeda that sanctuary.

If you are going to show up to battle Bill O’Reilly you better have your facts right; and it’s not about protecting yourself from being called out but it is also to call O’Reilly out when SPINS the truth.

Also, as much as I hate to say it O’Reilly made a very fair point in saying that Lupe should be careful when making controversial statements like calling the president a terrorist.  Lupe Fiasco has a lot of young fans who will take his comments as the absolute truth without doing the proper research and that is dangerous.  I said the same thing when Kanye West said George Bush doesn’t care about Black people, all in all it’s a reckless comment in my opinion and we need stars need to be more careful in making political statements.

As for O’Reilly painting all of Lupe Fiasco fans as not being capable of understanding politics with such a broad paint brush is just as reckless in all honesty… It’s funny how the ‘Political Ignorance’ of the Tea Party is celebrated among the GOP but in this case for O’Reilly it’s a deficiency for the Black community.  Of course O’Reilly never directly pointed to the Black community but we all know what he meant when he talks about Lupe Fiasco fans.

Cornel West said WHAT???

It seems like this moment with Cornel West and Barack Obama hugging and sharing the same stage was so long ago!!!!

After reading the Chris Hedges’ article on Monday (May 16th) it will be a long time before these 2 are even in the same building.  Dr Cornel West is a respected soldier in the fight for Civil Rights and I mean Civil Rights for more than just Blacks; Dr West is a fighter for the poor.  It doesn’t matter who you are, if you are poor Dr West has fought for you.  He is the voice for a group that has no voice and I have ALWAYS loved and supported Dr West for his work.

BUT….

After reading ‘The Obama Deception: Why Cornel West Went Ballistic’, I have no words for Dr West.  Now, I wasn’t completely shocked when I heard that Dr West was criticizing President Obama; actually my 1st reaction was here we go again…

It is no secret that Dr West has had issues with the president (WTF/WTH – Dr. Cornel West and President Obama), but this latest attack is the most vicious attack of them all.  I have no issue with anyone criticizing the president’s policies but West has stepped over the line with the following statements.

Dr West refers to Obama as…

“a black mascot of Wall Street oligarchs and a black puppet of corporate plutocrats. And now he has become head of the American killing machine and is proud of it.”

“I think my dear brother Barack Obama has a certain fear of free black men,” West says. “It’s understandable. As a young brother who grows up in a white context, brilliant African father, he’s always had to fear being a white man with black skin. All he has known culturally is white. He is just as human as I am, but that is his cultural formation. When he meets an independent black brother, it is frightening. And that’s true for a white brother. When you get a white brother who meets a free, independent black man, they got to be mature to really embrace fully what the brother is saying to them. It’s a tension, given the history. It can be overcome. Obama, coming out of Kansas influence, white, loving grandparents, coming out of Hawaii and Indonesia, when he meets these independent black folk who have a history of slavery, Jim Crow, Jane Crow and so on, he is very apprehensive.”

WOW…. Saying President Obama “has a certain fear of free black men…” is insane to me.  You have to ask yourself how is Dr West coming to this conclusion?

What would make someone say that Obama fears free black men?

Who are these free black men that Obama is fearful of??

Tavis Smiley and Cornel West????

Hmmmmm……  Maybe the picture is a little clearer now; Dr West and Tavis Smiley are close friends and as Melissa Harris-Perry points out in her rebuttal to Hedges’ article ‘Cornel West v. Barack Obama’; Dr West seems to have taken up for his good friend Tavis in carry a grudge against Obama (Tavis widely criticized Obama during the 2008 campaign for not attending his event “State of Black America’).

Dr West would like you to believe these are only criticisms of Barack Obama and that he has the right to do that; and because Obama is Black it doesn’t mean he can be excused from criticism from Blacks folks.  The problem here is that West is not launching criticisms against President Obama’s policies, this is a personal attack against Obama.  Dr West loves to talk about fighting for the poor and under-privileged and he will say the president has not done anything for those people.  Except for….

  • The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act; equalizing pay for men and women
  • Signed an act that reforms how criminal justice system goes after drug related crimes slanted towards minorities
  • Reformed the student loan process at the federal level; easing the burden off of the students who take out the loans
  • The Affordable Care Act; that will insure more people

As Melissa Harris-Perry stated on Ed Schultz show on MSNBC, Dr West is not being genuine in his critics; and that is disturbing!  Dr Cornel West has been there and done that when it comes to fighting for what’s right…

Unfortunately Dr West is on the wrong side of the fight this time!!!

Here is a link of Dr West and Melissa Harris-Perry on ‘The Ed Show’http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/43071536#43071386

If there is something to be said, “Its On Broadway” to step up and say it!!!

I whole heartedly agree with Melissa Harris-Perry in saying that Dr West comes off as being very petty; calling the 1st Black president a “Black Puppet” is just as

Bush, “Truly not concerned about Bin Laden…”

A couple of days ago I wrote about Condoleezza Rice nicely handling herself on Lawrence O’Donnell’s show and how it is vogue right now for Democrats to criticize the Bush Administration for not catching Osama Bin Laden.  I thought it was a bit over the top the way some Dems had looked at the capture and death of Bin Laden as purely an accomplishment for President Obama and failure for former President Bush.

BUT…..

I find it insulting that FOX News thinks they can just re-write history and act as if Bin Laden was always a major focus for them!!

GOP: STOP LYING!!!!!

On 3/13/2002 then Pres Bush minimized the influence of Bin Laden.  If you are going to applaud Pres Bush for building the foundation of intelligence gathering that ‘MAY’ have assisted the Obama Administration to find Bin Laden… THEN you also have to acknowledge that it was Pres Bush who  re-focused US interest from Afghanistan to Iraq.

In the next couple of days I will talk more about the silliness of FOX News coverage of the capture/killing of Osama Bin Laden!!

President Obama Showing His Range….

At this time I am sure most of you have already seen clips of President Obama going in at the White House Correspondents Dinner.  The president did a great job making fun of himself and also taking shots at his critics; some of the best moments were President Obama taking on Donald Trump.  ‘The Donald’ sat in the audience as a guest of the Washington Post and sat there like a grumpy lump of coal as the president and the audience laughed at his expense.

While all the laughs were going down at the dinner on 4/30 and the president came across as relaxed and at ease in the moment; we had NO IDEA what was about to go down.  We would learn later Sunday night is that on 4/29 the president authorized a surgical operation to take down Osama Bin Laden.  Looking back on the situation the president took a chance of being heavily criticized if that operation failed.

Can you imagine the amount of criticism Obama would have been subject to if that mission would have failed?

Images of the president laughing and cracking  jokes on Trump and other potential Republican candidates for president (Bachmann, Pawlenty, and Romney) would have been all over the TV giving his opponents plenty of material for the 2012 Election.

President Obama showed his range as a leader by delivering great moments during the correspondents dinner and then putting on his Commander-In-Chief hat 24 hours later in telling the nation that

Justice Had Been Served to the  FBI Most Wanted Criminal; Osama Bin Laden!!
