Republicans Hated Executive Orders When They Were Used by President Obama…

Republicans hated Executive Orders (EO) when they were used by President Obama. During the Obama presidency, EOs were used 276 times, in response to Republicans in Congress trying to obstruct his every move.

With every EO signed by Obama, Republicans would accuse Obama of overreach.

“He’s not a king, he’s not a dictator, he’s not allowed to do it himself.” – The-New Jersey Governor Chris Christie

“Barack Obama is a king, not a president.” – Fox News

“He may think he’s king, he may declare he’s a king, but that’s not what he is under the Constitution… He has rewritten the Constitution for himself as a part of his effort to fundamentally transform the United States of America.” – Then-Representative Michele Bachmann

And last but not least…

And now we have Pres Trump signing EOs like there is no tomorrow. His latest EOs to address much needed Coronavirus relief, may prove to be the biggest power grab of authority. Democrats in Congress and some Republicans have expressed their concern over this latest move by Trump. It remains to be seen if Dems will take Trump to court to prove the validity of his EOs.

Dems should take Trump to court and continue to work to get a deal done to extend Coronavirus relief. With every day that passes by Trump figures out a new way to ignore the Constitution.

Senate Fails to Pass $2T Stimulus Package

This really shouldn’t be difficult, but unfortunately this is the reality we live in. Senate Democrats argue that the current $2T Stimulus Bill contains a $500B lending program aka “slush fund” the Treasury Dept controls and will allow them to select who will receive the the funds. Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats maintain that the package should be more heavily favored for the people, and restrictions for how companies will use the money.

Republicans on the other have accused the Democrats of playing politics, and not having the urgency needed to help Americans out of work due to COVID-19 pushing Mayors/Governors to lock down cities and states.

So who is right?

I don’t know, but lets re-visit the not too distant past for some insight. Look back to late 2008 during the financial crisis, the last stimulus package that bailed out the automobile industry and big banks (TARP). While the bailout was praised for saving the auto industry and stabilizing the banks, the major criticism of the bailouts was that it was not felt by the people. President Obama himself admitted that not enough was done to help Americans directly who were had underwater mortgages.

With that said, is there some kind of rule against splitting this stimulus up into 2 parts? One for the people and one for the large and small businesses. I think everyone can agree on sending Americans money, either $1200 or $2000. That can be ironed out, so why not come to an agreement on a stimulus for the people first instead of trying to package a huge bill that includes a stimulus for business?

If you quickly get something out for the people and then separately tackle a stimulus for the businesses. You can provide the people will relief while taking the time necessary to put together a business stimulus package that restricts how the money is used (buybacks or paying bonuses to execs).

Trump Embarrasses Himself and the US on the International Stage

I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today.  And what he did is an incredible offer; he offered to have the people working on the case come and work with their investigators with respect to the 12 people.  I think that’s an incredible offer. –President Donald Trump

And with that statement President Donald Trump chose Vladamir Putin over the United States Intelligence apparatus.

In response to Trump’s Helsinki moment, a former Trump National Security Council official said the following,

Dude. This is a total [effing] disgrace. The President has lost his mind.

Stunned Republicans lawmakers and allies are backing US intelligence, but have been “gentle” in their criticism of the president.

SMH, can you imagine if this was 2011 and President Obama showed the same kind of love to Putin?!?!

Yes, In 2011 President Obama Suspended the Iraqi Refugee Program…

Yes, In 2011 President Obama suspended the Iraqi Refugee Program for 6-months.

In response to the backlash President Trump has received since he signed the immigration executive order,  many conservatives and Trump supporters have mentioned Obama suspending the receiving of Iraqi refugees in the U.S. The problem with that comparison is that Obama’s suspension of the refugee program was in response to 2 al Qaeda-Iraq terrorists living as refugees in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

And at that time Obama didn’t restrict visa access, they slowed down the process of allowing visas and added additional security checks because of actionable intelligence. In Trump’s case he seems to be acting within a bubble that did not include anyone outside of the oval office.

The Department of Homeland Security only saw details of the executive order on Friday, the day it was signed, and basically left border patrol agents on their own to figure out how to enforce the order.

Get it together Trump!!

Internnational Holocaust Remembrance Day

With so much hate in the world, let us not forget one of the great tragedies in history. Let this be a reminder that an attack on ANY faith is unacceptable and not to let your anxieties affect our better judgment.

Wednesday, January 27th is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005. Today President Obama spoke at the Israeli Embassy in Washington D.C.

Carmelo Anthony Visits Rikers Island….

Carmelo Anthony worked hard during the offseason to get himself back on the court for the New York Knicks and he has worked just as hard off the court to promote his brand.

Part of Melo’s brand is his work with VICE SPORTS and his video series #StayMelo. In the latest installment of #StayMelo Anthony visits Rikers Island jail facility in NYC. Rikers has been in the news over the past year with a number of issues ranging from violence to corruption with the administration of the site.

Overall the judicial / prison system in the United States is in dire need of reform. This video only sheds a very small amount of light of what’s going on, and it’s not to say that Melo visiting Rikers changed anything but maybe it’s the start of something bigger.

P.S. For those of you who have missed it President Obama also visited a prison…

President Obama Explains That #BlackLivesMatter Doesn’t Mean All Other Lives Don’t

Honestly it’s beyond frustrating that people either cannot understand or refuse to see what the #BlacksLivesMatter movement is about. The most common response are those who will say, “Why say Black Lives Matter and not just say All Lives Matter…”

Well, today President Obama weighed in with his thoughts while attending a forum hosted by the Marshall Project

[Black Lives Matter] started being lifted up as these folks are opposed to police, and they’re opposed to cops, and all lives matter. So the notion was that somehow saying black lives matter was reverse racism or suggesting that other people’s lives didn’t matter or police officers’ lives didn’t matter.

And whenever we get bogged down in that kind of discussion, we know where that goes — I mean, that’s just down the old track.

So let me just suggest this: I think everybody understands all lives matter. Everybody wants strong, effective law enforcement. Everybody wants their kids to be safe when they’re walking to school. Nobody wants to see police officers who are doing their job fairly hurt. Everybody understands it’s a dangerous job.

I think the that reason that the organizers used the phrase “black lives matter” was not because they were suggesting nobody else’s life matters. Rather, what they were suggesting was there is a specific problem that is happening in the African-American community that’s not happening in other communities. And that is a legitimate issue that we’ve got to address.

It’s pretty simple, nothing mind-bending behind the meaning. I can’t help think that if you can’t understand that then you just have a problem with “Black Lives”. Now that may sound harsh, but it is what it is.

No one has a problem with #FuckCancer and #BreastCancerAwareness hashtags. You don’t see people responding to those hashtags saying, “What about #FuckHIV?”

Republicans’ Open Letter to Iran, Not Cool but…..

Republicans’ Open Letter to Iran informing them that they can change any deal President Obama makes concerning the nuclear negotiations, was not cool but it’s not an act of treason!

NYDN_Traitors

Then Vice-President Joe Biden chimed in with the following

In thirty-six years in the United States Senate, I cannot recall another instance in which Senators wrote directly to advise another country—much less a longtime foreign adversary

Really Joe, “thirty-six years”????

Wasn’t it 2007 when Representative Nancy Pelosi took a trip to Syria to sit down with Syrian President Bashar Assad? A trip that the Bush Administration advised against as they were in the middle of trying to punish Assad for Syria’s role in sending insurgents to Iraq.

Come on Joe, a bit of selective memory there.

While I believe Senator Tom Cotton’s Open Letter (signed by 46-Senate Republicans) was a bad idea and it shows the world how dysfunctional the US is right now. It doesn’t deserve the verbal bombs being thrown at Republicans lobbed by Liberals, relax.

If there is anything that Republicans’ like Cotton should be hammered for is that they have no plan on how to handle Iran except for regime change, aka US invading Iran.

It will not be enough to just bomb Iran’s nuclear sites as that will only delay and more than likely embolden the Iranians to move forward with nuclear. Let’s not put the cart before the horse and confirm the details of a possible deal, as the president stated; no deal is better than a bad deal.

Benjamin Netanyahu Makes his Case to Congress

Benjamin Netanyahu aka ‘Bibi’ went before a joint session of Congress and made his case for not trusting Iran in nuclear negotiations.

Before Netanyahu went into his reasons for not trusting Iran, he attempted to quiet the critics of his visit to Congress and the growing rift between him and President Obama. He opened up his speech thanking the US and especially President Obama for standing with Israel and made a special note that there have been times when Obama has supported Israel and it was never publicized.

As Netanyahu continued with his speech, the theme of the speech change from warning the US to more of lecturing the US on Iran.

And with all that lecturing and complaining about the current deal being discussed with Iran, Netanyahu had some memorable quotes to back his case…

“At a time when many hope that Iran will join the community of nations, Iran is busy gobbling up the nations.”

“When it comes to Iran and ISIS, the enemy of your enemy is your enemy.

“You don’t need intelligence agencies and secret information to know this. You can Google it.” (Iran cannot be trusted)

“[This deal] doesn’t block Iran’s path to the bomb; it paves Iran’s path to the bomb.”

“This deal won’t be a farewell to arms—it will be a farewell to arms control.”

“A better deal that Israel and its neighbors may not like, but with which we could live — literally.”

“If Iran wants to be treated like a normal country, let it act like a normal country”

“A racecar driver without a car can’t drive. A pilot without a plan can’t fly. Without thousands of centrifuges, tons of enriched uranium or heavy water facilities, Iran can’t make nuclear weapons.”

Everything that Netanyahu listed above is already known by the P5 + 1 (United States, Russia, China, United Kingdom, and France, plus Germany). In all honesty Netanyahu failed to present any new information for the P5 +1 to chew on. And with Bibi being dead set against the current deal being negotiated, you would think he would have a better solution….

So What Would Bibi Do (WWBD)?

“Negotiate a better deal….”

giphy

Thank You Captain Obvious…

Wow, great plan Bibi!

In response to Netanyahu’s great idea, Obama said the following

“On the core issue, which is how do we prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, which would make it far more dangerous and give it scope for even greater action in the region, the prime minister didn’t offer any viable alternatives,”

Obama said, adding that he had looked at the transcript and saw “nothing new.”

So while Netanyahu’s speech solidified hawkish Republicans stance on Iran, I believe he fell short of convincing everyone else that we need to change the current course of action. As Obama, John Kerry and Susan Rice have already stated, “A bad deal is worse than no deal”. There’s no rush to make any deal as long as there’s a deal.

It will be interesting to see if Obama will give a direct formal response to Netanyahu. In all honesty Obama should, and show you can’t be a foreign leader, come to the US, and think you can dictate foreign policy to the US.

Will the Real Conservatives Stand-Up

It’s been a couple of days since Rudy Giuliani made his asinine statements about President Obama not “Loving America”. As absurd Giuliani’s comments were, the potential 2016 Republican presidential candidates still managed to stumble their way thru this.

In a time when the 2016 Republican presidential field rail against Obama for leadership, they all missed the boat to show leadership when asked about Giuliani’s comments

“The gist of what Mayor Giuliani said – that the President has shown himself to be completely unable to speak the truth about the nature of the threats from these ISIS terrorists- is true,”

“If you are looking for someone to condemn the Mayor, look elsewhere.” – Governor Bobby Jindal

———————————————————————————————————

“The mayor can speak for himself,”

“I’m not going to comment on what the president thinks or not. He can speak for himself as well.” – Governor Scott Walker

———————————————————————————————————

You can’t expect to win in a general election simply pandering to the extremist and this goes for both Conservatives and Liberals. This was a moment for Governor Walker to set himself apart from the rest of the field. Instead he fell flat on his face and scrambling to backtrack on his initial comments.

So far Senator Marco Rubio has given the best response to all this nonsense….

I don’t feel like I’m in a position to have to answer for every person in my party that makes a claim. Democrats aren’t asked to answer every time Joe Biden says something embarrassing, so I don’t know why I should answer every time a Republican does. I’ll suffice it to say that I believe the President loves America; I think his ideas are bad.

Honestly folks, it’s not that difficult!
