Trump Embarrasses Himself and the US on the International Stage

I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today.  And what he did is an incredible offer; he offered to have the people working on the case come and work with their investigators with respect to the 12 people.  I think that’s an incredible offer. –President Donald Trump

And with that statement President Donald Trump chose Vladamir Putin over the United States Intelligence apparatus.

In response to Trump’s Helsinki moment, a former Trump National Security Council official said the following,

Dude. This is a total [effing] disgrace. The President has lost his mind.

Stunned Republicans lawmakers and allies are backing US intelligence, but have been “gentle” in their criticism of the president.

SMH, can you imagine if this was 2011 and President Obama showed the same kind of love to Putin?!?!

President Obama Will Move Forward With Executive Orders

In his State of the Union Address President Obama stated he will use the powers of the Executive Branch to move forward if congress fails to act.  The 1st Executive Order he will sign will raise the minimum wage for federal contractors.

Of course, as soon as Republicans heard this they quickly ramped up Talking Points about President Obama ignoring the Constitution and using executive orders in a way that is unrepresented.  Except the president using Executive Orders is perfectly legal and constitutional.  As a matter of fact according to the Washington Post

Through 2013, Obama signed 167 executive orders, according to the Federal Register, which tracks such things. That’s fewer than every president in the same time period dating back to Harry Truman. In fact, George H.W. Bush signed just about as many (166) in a single term as Obama did in his first five calendar years as president. And in less than a full term in the White House, Gerald Ford eclipsed Obama’s total.

Executive Orders

Republicans either choose to ignore what past presidents have done or they just don’t know.

If you are the opposing party of the president you will hate executive orders but at least be honest about it.  And please stay away from making statements that will force me to question if you ever passed a social studies class….

What To Expect From the State Of The Union

image

When President Obama gives the State of the Union on Tuesday, he will have the challenge of trying to get his 2nd term back on the right track.

With the roll out of Obamacare being a disaster and the whole, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it,” debacle; the president’s approval numbers took a nose dive. Currently, President Obama is hovering around 46% approval, which is not that bad….

The problem is that while Obama is at 46% approval, when you ask Americans in the recent WAPO-ABC News poll about how they feel Obama is handling the economy and the direction of the country. The numbers are not good!

“Just 37% say they have either a good amount or a great deal of confidence in the president to make the right decisions for the country’s future, while 63% say they do not. Those numbers are the mirror image of what they were when he was sworn into office in 2009 and lower than at any other time the question was asked by The Washington Post and ABC News

If only 37% have confidence that President Obama will take the country in the right direction; how can the president get the people to back his strategy on eliminating the income inequality gap?

This State of the Union will have to be more than just a great oratory speech. It will need substance that President Obama will be able to building on for the next couple of weeks; the president is in need of positive momentum. Of course, the Republican House will not look to help Obama in any way.

For the president to gain the trust of the people, he will need to present a plan forward where progress can be measured. If he talks about pie-in-the-sky goals with little to no substance, there will be a collective rolling of the eyes from Americans throughout the country. The American people are ready for action, and if Obama wants to be on the right side of this debate his actions will speak louder than his words.

GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN!!!

Government+Closed

Here we are folks, GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN!!!

House Leadership has stated they will not offer up any more Continuing Resolutions (CR) to avoid a government shutdown tonight (9/30/2013).  The United States government will basically be run by a skeleton crew of folks who have been deemed “essential personnel”.

While I did not want to see a government shutdown, I have to say that I am pleased that Democrats have stood up and decided to tell Republicans NO!  Sometimes you have to take a step back to take 2 steps forward.  Up to now it has not worked for Democrats to compromise on CRs and raising the debt limit and we have received in return is running gov’t 1 crisis after another.

That is no way for the gov’t of the United States to be run

It’s my belief that Republicans have always wanted a government shutdown since the day after President Obama won re-election.  For 4 years Republicans tweeted daily a countdown of the last time the Senate passed a budget.  So when the Senate finally passed a budget (I will admit Dems should have been passed a budget a long time ago) you would think House Republicans would be thrilled and anxious to start debate on that budget.  Instead Republicans refused to go to conference to hammer out a budget deal and decided to continue to run gov’t by CRs.  Because with CRs Republicans could negotiate (and I use that term loosely) draconian cuts to spending and now they are looking to defund or delay Obamacare.  Passing a budget would only take away the negotiating power of Republicans and that is something they do not want to lose, without that power they would not be able to achieve their #1 goal and that’s obstructing President Obama and government from moving forward.

Now with the government shutdown, who will blink first??

President Obama Seeking Congressional Approval for Military Action

20130831-162235.jpg

When I wrote that President Obama had to speak to the American people about Syria; I never thought he would announce that he will be working with Congress. Obama announced today the he wants military action against Syria, but he will seek congressional approval for that action.

Ummm, ok….

Obama on several occasions has made it clear that any action against Syria would focus on their use of chemical weapons. He has also stated that it would not be an “open-ended” scenario as there will be no “boots on the ground”. And inaction would threaten the security of not only our allies (Turkey, Israel etc) but it would threaten U.S. security as well.

So why seek any approval?

I believe the president is being partly political in seeking approval. Many Republicans and Democrats have publicly stated a need for the president to present his case for military action against Syria along with thorough debate. The flip side is that many of those requesting debate are also reluctant to vote on authorization (I know shocker congress not willing to do something). With the president seeking approval he’s basically telling congress you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Seeking approval from congress in my opinion is unnecessary and this is potentially setting a bad precedent for future presidents. Obama is also basically saying his decision for military action in Libya without authorization from Congress was wrong!

How is Libya different Syria?

And what if congress says no to military action in Syria? What will Obama’s next move be?

He’s on record saying he wants military action against Syria; will he ignore congress?

Republicans Want my Vote???

After President Barack Obama was re-elected, the RNC did a post-mortem on the corpse the current Republican Party. What they discovered was the world’s worst kept secret…

The current Republican Party is the ‘Old White Man Party’; if you don’t believe me checkout the voting demographics.

http://www.ropercenter.uconn.edu/elections/how_groups_voted/voted_12.html

So weeks after the 2012 elections many Republicans talked about expanding their base. Talking more about immigration reform and focusing on the middle class.

Well, that was at least a good thought.

In a move that really should not shock but it still has, Republicans seem to have boycotted the 50th Anniversary March On Washington celebration. At first many took notice of the absence of former Presidents George H W Bush and George W Bush; both reported declined the invitation due to health reasons (Dubya had surgery recently and Herbert is really old).

Yes the Bush’s absence was very noticeable but for me the was not the most shocking for me. The absence of elected Republican officials like Speaker of the House John Boenher and others like Rep Eric Cantor (House leadership) and Senator John McCain rang much more loudly. And this was not a case of an oversight, it has been reported Republicans were invited to the ceremony (Even Bill O’Reilly backed up that report) but just decided not to go.

SMH…

And Republicans want my vote???

Jay-Z’s ‘Open Letter’ Causes a Stir…

jayz

Jay-Z received criticism over a week ago from Republicans over his travel to Cuba to celebrate his 5 year wedding anniversary.  It was a silly complaint by Republicans as, the Obama Administration in 2012 eased the travel restrictions to Cuba with a policy known as “people-to-people” travel.  Jay had all his paperwork for this travel, but it was an opportunity for Repubs to take a distant shot at President Obama as Jay-Z has a good relationship with Obama and the White House.

In response to his critics Hov released ‘Open Letter’

Now you have the White House Press Corps making WAY too much out of the following lyrics….

Obama said “chill, you gonna get me impeached”.  But you don’t need this shit anyway, Chill with me on the beach… – Jay-Z

REALLY

Was there nothing else to talk about in the world?

SMH, it’s pretty sad that the White House Press Secretary has to even answer a question about Jay-Z and Beyoncé traveling to Cuba.  What’s next?  The White House commenting on Rick Ross and Mollys????

The House Passes Bill to avert Fiscal Cliff

From Politico

The House has passed a bill to avert the fiscal cliff, 257-167, sending the bill to President Barack Obama and ending a dramatic New Year’s Day showdown over income taxes and deep federal spending cuts. The bill — which would allow tax rates on upper income Americans to jump, makes permanent middle class tax cuts, extends unemployment benefits and overhauls a variety of other tax and spending measures — passed the Senate early in the morning on New Year’s Day on an 89-8 vote.

The passage of this bill was done with majority support from Democrats and the support of 85 Republicans; including notable Republicans Speaker Boehner and Paul Ryan.

President Obama will sign this bill into law tomorrow!

What’s next???

  • Avoiding the sequestration cuts and coming up with cuts that are responsible and will not hurt the economy and Americans
  • Raising the Debt Ceiling

House will vote on Senate bill w/o amendments to avert Fiscal Cliff

In a move that just makes sense, House Republicans will NOT add amendments to the Senate‘s bill to avert the Fiscal Cliff.  Speaker Boehner will take an up-or-down vote a clean Senate passed bill.  This bill will more than likely need the support of both Democrats and Republicans in the House to pass.

Politico reporting…

The House plans to vote tonight on the Senate-passed bill to avert the fiscal cliff. Passage in the House, which is expected, would clear the bill for law since President Barack Obama has said he will sign the legislation.

The decision to move to an up-or-down vote comes after House Republicans internally rejected a plan to amend the bill with a package of spending cuts. That move would’ve likely killed the bill, allowing taxes to go up on all Americans.

Pres Barack Obama’s Twitter account, “This Seats Taken”

Now that the Republican National Convention 2012 (RNC) has wrapped and Mitt Romney has accepted the Republican Nomination for President of The United States, the ball is now in the Democrats court.  The Democrats will have their moment in the sun when the Democratic National Convention officially starts September 4th.

But after 3 days of listening to the Republican hype machine tell anyone who would listen how bad President Barack Obama has been at being president; the following picture was sent from the President’s Twitter account (@BarackObama)… Oh, there was also a message that accompanied that pic:
