Militant Mondays – When did Facts stop being enough….

Sunday’s episode of the ‘The Newsroom’ (I’ll Try to Fix You) was timely; in the episode Will McAvoy (Anchor) reports on the misinformation campaign against President Obama concerning his record on gun control.  McAvoy runs clip after clip of Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, and Glenn Beck talking about how Barack Obama wants to take your guns and destroy the 2nd Amendment.  The only problem is there is no evidence of such a campaign by President Obama, to show this McAvoy talks about the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence‘s report card on how Obama has performed in strengthen gun regulation.

*** This report card was based on Obama’s record after 1st year as president ***

Candidate Obama in 2008 was way tougher on gun control then President Obama; basically Obama has been a GREAT friend to the gun industry!

Information like this is not top-secret, you can easily Google this and find the facts.  Or at least I thought so….  Before last night’s episode of ‘The Newsroom’ I just so happened to engage my colleagues at work in a debate concerning gun control.  For the record these guys are smart guys who happen to love guns, and I respect the right for people to own a gun.  But the conversation quickly went into a death spiral when one guy stated that, “Barack Obama wants to circumvent the 2nd Amendment and take away everyone’s guns…”

Ummmmmm…….

Of course I tried to correct him but he was adamant that; when I asked where he got this information from he said the head of the National Rifle Association aka NRA.  GTFOH, so the organization that fights any attempt to regulate guns was his source?!?!?!?

Folks this is what we are dealing with today, I could understand if this was 1980… Before the internet, the 24 hour news cycle, and GOOGLE!!! But this is 2012, this is the INFORMATION AGE and we still have people who are just as ignorant as if it was the stone age.  As usual my stubborn nature did not allow me to just walk away shaking my head, so I went into how the president has not introduced any legislation toughening gun control.  I showed article after article supporting what I was saying…

Did it work??

Nope, instead of believing numerous sources this guy preferred to believe the opinion (with no facts to back up) of a few people aka NUTBAGS.  So what do we do when people prefer to believe the non-factual rantings of nutbags?

I have no idea….

I am the type of person who relies on facts and it disturbs me when people ignore them; I will always stand by the facts but I have ask.

Have I been fooling myself in thinking that at the end of the day facts will always win out?

F-A-Natic Fridays – Another STUPID Herman Cain ad….

Here we go again with another STUPID Herman Cain campaign ad, who the hell is doing the creative thinking for Cain’s campaign ads????

Does Cain review these ads before they are released? If so his judgement is poor and I definitely don’t want him making ANY crucial decisions for the United States.

WHO THE HELL IS NICK SEARCY???

So far Cain has some of the worse campaign ads I have ever seen, and what’s up with the creepy smile Cain gives at the end of his campaign ads?

So what I can gather from this ad is that they are trying to poke fun at President Obama for reading his speeches from a teleprompter and being a community organizer.  After more than 3 years of the Obama presidency this is all Herm and his crew got for Obama?!?!

GTFOH….

I guess killing Osama Bin Ladenal-Awlaki and helping to capture and kill Muammar Gaddafi doesn’t mean anything as well.  Instead Mr Searcy wants us to support the CEO of Godfather Pizza who would flipped-flopped on negotiating with terrorist, doesn’t know what a neoconservative is, and thinks it’s cool not knowing who are the leaders of middle eastern countries.

This guy can’t be serious, he makes Sarah Palin look like a viable candidate.  Come on GOP, you can do better than this!!

F-A-Natic Fridays – Glen Rice Nalin Palin???

Sarah Palin and Glen Rice

Out of ALL the things I could imagine about Sarah Palin, the last thing I could have ever imagined was that Palin would have dabbled in dealing with brothers.  Yup that’s right, Palin had a little fun back in 1987 and tested the interracial waters.

This week it was revealed in Joe McGinnis‘ upcoming book The Rogue: Searching For The Real Sarah Palin, that she once had some kind of relations with former NBA star Glen Rice while he was attending Michigan University.  According to McGinnis who supposedly confirmed the story with Rice and a former friend of the ex-governor; that while Palin (Back then known as Sarah Heath) was a sports reporter for a local Alaska TV station she met Rice during the 1987 Alaskan Shootout Tournament.

From the sound of it Palin was curious about the dark side, LOL!!

All in all there is nothing wrong with Palin wanting some chocolate in her life, it’s just funny that the hokie “You Betcha” girl could not resist the aura of the Black Man… HA!  To be fair to both Palin and Rice no one can confirm if there were sexual relations as it is all hearsay.  We all know Palin will more than likely either deny or just ignore the story and alleged quote from Rice never mention any sexual contact.  According to McGinnis, Rice said the following…

Rice called the relationship “respectful,” and not “hurried.” They were able to get to know each other personally.  He even said Palin was “a big crush”.

With that said I guess we can let our imaginations fly and try to fill in the rest of the story; whatever the whole story is it is still funny and all so RANDOM.  I mean of all the NBA players to pick to make a story up about, why Glen Rice??

I bet Todd Palin (Sarah’s husband) is asking the same thing, haha!!

For your enjoyment here is a video of Palin back in the day talking sports, I wonder if it was the big hair that sparked Rice’s interest…

Shout out to the Mets and Syracuse Orangemen for getting a mention during Palin’s broadcast, even in Alaska we get some love, lol!

Talking Points Tuesdays – Ronald Reagan on Raising Debt Ceiling

It is now becoming a daily occurrence for President Obama to make a statement of the dangerous game Republicans are playing with our economy if they do not vote to raise the debt ceiling.  At this point I think we have heard ALL of the different ways to describe what will happen if the debt ceiling is not raised and the most commonly used word….. Catastrophic, might be the most over-used word in the English language right now.

But….

As the August 2nd deadline to raise the debt ceiling approaches Secretary of Treasury Timothy Geithner, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Ben Bernake, Moody’s and S&P have all stated the blow a failure of raising the debt ceiling will cause to our growing but still fragile economy.

Standard & Poor’s has warned lawmakers privately that it would downgrade the country’s debt if the Treasury Department is forced to prioritize payments because Congress does not raise the debt limit  – S&P

“A default on Treasury debt could lead to concerns about the solvency of the investment funds and financial institutions that hold Treasury securities in their portfolios, which could cause a run on money market mutual funds and the broader financial system — similar to what happened in the wake of the collapse of Lehman Brothers. As the recent financial crisis demonstrated, a severe and sudden blow to confidence in the financial markets can spark a panic that threatens the health of our entire global economy and the jobs of millions of Americans.”   – Sec. of Treasury Tim Geithner

“Would likely push us into a double dip recession.”– Sec. of Treasury Tim Geithner

“It’s not something you want to play around with — the United States would be forced into a position of defaulting on its debt…  And the implications of that for our financial system, for our fiscal policy, for our economy would be catastrophic.”– Fed Chairman Ben Bernake

And even with all the warnings House and Senate Republicans continue to talk about NOT raising the debt ceiling.  Stop me if you have this before, NUTBAGS like Michele Bachmann and Sara Palin continue to tweet and go on talk shows talking about Geithner has it all wrong and that Republicans should “Reload” and not “Retreat” when it comes to voting against raising the debt ceiling.

So if Republicans and their nutbag friends refuse to listen to the Tim Geithner’s of the world, who could possibly convince them of the dangers of not raising the debt ceiling????

How about Ronald Reagan aka Mr. Conservative…..

Here is the text of what Reagan was saying in this address about the debt ceiling:

Congress consistently brings the Government to the edge of default before facing its responsibility. This brinkmanship threatens the holders of government bonds and those who rely on Social Security and veterans benefits. Interest rates would skyrocket, instability would occur in financial markets, and the Federal deficit would soar. The United States has a special responsibility to itself and the world to meet its obligations. It means we have a well-earned reputation for reliability and credibility – two things that set us apart from much of the world.

This was a speech Reagan gave back in 1987, but the message still resonates 24 years later!

What Pres Obama has been saying all along about the debt ceiling mirrors what Reagan said back then; if Republicans don’t want to believe a Liberal like Obama maybe they will listen to their Conservative hero Ronald Regan

F-A-Natic Fridays – Rep Cohens compares GOP to Nazis, WTH!

So it didn’t take long before a dumbass Democrat made himself and the party look like hypocrites.  Representative Steve Cohen from Tennessee referred to the Republicans “lies” concerning Health Care Reform aka Affordable Care Act as Nazi propaganda; the type of propaganda that led to the Holocaust.

WTH is wrong with this guy?

With all the talk of civility what sense does it make to compare Republicans to the Nazis?  As Democrats we cannot stand on a soap box and call out Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin for their recklessness… and then turn around and act just as reckless!

SMH……

They say it’s a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels. . . . You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. That’s the same kind of thing. . . . The Germans said enough about the Jews and the people believed it and you had the Holocaust. You tell a lie over and over again. And we’ve heard on this floor, government takeover of health care

This is the kind of nonsense Democrats need to stay away, stick with the facts and outlandish examples like this is unnecessary.  I hope Democrats leaders come out and condemn the words of Cohen; actually they better if they want the American people to take them seriously.

And Cohen definitely needs to apologizes as well….

WTF/WTH Wednesdays – Sarah Palin just doesn’t get it

Sarah Palin just doesn’t get it!!!

This morning Palin made her first public comments concerning the shooting in Tuscon, Arizona where she condemned the shooting  and expressed her sympathy for the victims.  She then took the opportunity to attack the media and political pundits who quickly look to point blame for this tragic incident.  She called Loughner “apolitical” and said that heated debate is something that is not new to this country and it should not be blamed for this tragedy.

“There are those who claim political rhetoric is to blame for the despicable act of this deranged, apparently apolitical criminal. And they claim political debate has somehow gotten more heated just recently. But when was it less heated? Back in those “calm days” when political figures literally settled their differences with dueling pistols? In an ideal world all discourse would be civil and all disagreements cordial. But our Founding Fathers knew they weren’t designing a system for perfect men and women.”

Palin’s assertion that political debate has always been heated is simply wrong; we can go back to the Reagan years to see there is a stark difference in how the 2 parties operate.  Republicans and Democrats did have heated debates but they also knew how to govern; Tip O’Neill and Ronald Reagan would go back and forth on ideology but at the end of the day they had mutual respect for one another.

O’Neill called Reagan the most ignorant man who had ever occupied the White House. O’Neill also said that Reagan was “Herbert Hoover with a smile” and “a cheerleader for selfishness.” He also said that Reagan’s policies meant that his presidency was “one big Christmas party for the rich.” Privately, O’Neill and Reagan were always on cordial terms, or as Reagan himself put it in his memoirs, they were friends “after 6PM.”

The so-called debate that is occurring today is very much different; there is no respect.  In today’s debate the President’s citizenship is questioned by nutbags Conservatives while GOP leadership looks the other way.  Joe Wilson yells out during the State of The Union “You Lie!”… Where is the respect???

Palin also misses the mark with her belief that the EXTREME political rhetoric has no impact; in no way am I blaming Palin for the shooting but I believe we have to be careful when saying, ‘Take up our arms’ or  ‘Reload’. The use of images are also dangerous; like images of cross hairs from a scope pointed at taking out certain representatives.

Sarah Palin knows this, and that’s why she (or some staffer) immediately cleaned Palin’s site of the targeting districts map

Instead of being a leader and acknowledge that the images or rhetoric are in bad taste and could possibly due damage; she decided to go on the attack and defend her views

Yes, our debates are full of passion, but we settle our political differences respectfully at the ballot box – as we did just two months ago, and as our Republic enables us to do again in the next election, and the next. That’s who we are as Americans and how we were meant to be. Public discourse and debate isn’t a sign of crisis, but of our enduring strength. It is part of why America is exceptional.

As I stated earlier Palin just doesn’t get it…

Minimum Wage

For the past couple of days the ridiculous notion of getting rid of the minimum wage has been floated by Senate candidates Linda McMahon (R-CT) and Joe Miller (R-AK). Some how setting a minimum wage is hurting businesses, stifling their growth so much that having a national standard of $7.25/hour is too much. According to the likes of McMahon and Miller it’s just another example of the federal government interfering in private business.

What world is McMahons and Miller living in?

What’s even more disturbing is that when asked recently about the minimum wage; Linda McMahon could not even tell reporters the federal or the state (CT) minimum wage level. I just don’t see how Republicans or Tea Party kats can say they are for the protection of the people when they float ideas of eliminating minimum wage. For the record in a recent debate Linda McMahon pulled a page out ofher old WWE wrestling handbook when she denied ever talking about eliminating minimum wage.

While I will argue with any Conservative that having a minimum wage is a good thing, I will hesitate in debating whether or not the minimum wage should be increased at this time. I believe having a minimum wage is protection for low skilled workers; overall I do not trust businesses to look out for employees. If that was the case business would not always look for cheap labor, I understand business wanting to make a profit but I ALSO understand fair wages for employees; there is a fair compromise we just have to find it.

As for hesitating in debating an increase to the minimum wage, well that is a little more difficult to defend. With the current state of the economy and the slow growth in job creation; it would not be wise to increase the minimum wage. Studies show that increasing the minimum wage can lead to less jobs being created as employers look to maximize profit. In a bad economy it would be difficult to ask a business owner to forget about profits and to thing about creating jobs; in my opinion it is just not a realistic thought. In a booming economy employers are more than willing to add employees as profit margins and demand increases.

If Republicans/Tea Party kats want to campaign on getting rid of the minimum wage go right ahead. LOL, it would be the dumbest thing they could ever do themselves. The smart thing to do is listen to Conservatives like Joe Scarborough; “Keep Calm and Carry On”! It’s very simple, control spending and focus on jobs, stay away from nutbags like Joe Miller and to a lil lesser extent Linda McMahon. Definitely stay away from Princess Nutbag Christine O’Donnell (Queen Nutbag = Sarah Palin), let me stop with all the nutbag talk…

What’s important here is that we focus on bringing this economy back. Cutting minimum wage is not the answer, let’s focus on better ways to help businesses and the people at the same time.

Here are a couple of ideas:
1. Responsibly cut payroll tax

2. Give companies tax exemptions for creating new jobs that hire the unemployed

3. Tax companies that sends jobs overseas. Currently there are a number of tax exemptions these companies receive

Republicans/Tea Party kats these are good ideas to float and support. By the way these are all ideas that Democrats have pushed.

Stop playing the political game and start doing what is right for every American!

Glenn Beck’s Hypocrisy

Glenn Beck

For the past couple of weeks Glenn Beck along with merry band of idiots (Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Lazio) have led a movement to protest the building of an Islamic Cultural Center (Ground Zero Mosque) near the WTC. Beck’s opposition to the Cultural Center is that he believes it’s insensitive to the families and victims of 9/11 to build what he calls a Mosque in that area.

I can understand how someone who lost a family member or friend at 9/11 would be upset. And you have every right to protest; my opinion may differ but it is your right.

What I have a problem with is people like Beck who are using this controversy for their own gain. For all his talk about respect and being sensitive to people’s feelings, where was that same sentiment when he decided to have his ‘Restoring Honor’ rally on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech?!?

Beck’s ‘Restoring Honor’ rally attracted a lot of Tea Party supporters, the same supporters who have challenged the 1st Black President’s citizenship and have carried signs depicting him as Hitler at their rallies.  This is the same Beck who said,

Obama has “exposed himself as a guy” with “a deep-seated hatred for white people”

Beck Referring to Obama “This guy is a racist…”

So how exactly are you going to reclaim the Civil Rights Movement when you yourself have promoted some form of hate??

Beck is only in this for selfish reasons; if he really cared about the people he would care about the effect of his rally.  Instead he turned a deaf ear to Civil Rights Leaders and colleagues like Greta Van Susteren,

“Yes he has a First Amendment right to do it…but what about the wisdom of it?”. “Glenn should move his event. It does not help heal the country on so many fronts if we poke a stick in eyes.” – Greta Van Susteren

So what’s the difference between respecting 9/11 families/victims and respecting the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech?  It’s simple, there is nothing for Beck to gain from respecting Martin Luther King.  The families of 9/11 and protesters who oppose the Islamic Cultural Center have to understand Beck, the GOP, and even Democrats like Harry Reid are using them for political favor.  Then on top of that you have the rhetoric of Beck possibly adding fuel to the fire of anti-Islam sentiment.  The video below was taken during one of the protests of the Islamic Cultural Center; the crowd mistaken a man wearing a tightly fitted beanie for a muslim…

These are dangerous times we are living in right now, and this is just not a NYC Ground Zero thing.  Just this weekend there was a suspicious fire at the proposed site for a Mosque in Tennessee, how much will we regress as a nation??

Talking Points Tuesdays – Ground Zero Mosque

Ground Zero Mosque

The controversy surrounding the Ground Zero Mosque is clear example of how this country is going backwards; when did we as a nation stop progressing?  John Adams in a letter once wrote…

“There must be a positive Passion for the public good, the public Interest, Honour, Power, and Glory, established in the Minds of the People, or there can be no Republican Government, nor any real Liberty. And this public Passion must be Superior to all private Passions. Men must be ready, they must pride themselves, and be happy to sacrifice their private Pleasures, Passions, and Interests, nay their private Friendships and dearest connections, when they Stand in Competition with the Rights of society.”

These are powerful words from 1776 that  puts the Ground Zero Mosque mess into perspective, “public Passion must be Superior to all private Passions…”.  Meaning that we need to put our personal feeling aside for the greater good of society.  Some will argue that the greater good for society would be to respect the victims of 9/11 and their families; in no way are disrespecting the memories of loved ones lost.  Islam was not what took the lives of over 3,000 people on September 9th 2001; the act was committed by radical fundamentalist.

If there was evidence that the builders of the Muslim Cultural Center were affiliated with radical hate groups then I would fully oppose the building of the Mosque.  There is no room or protection of hate groups when it comes to the greater good or society.  If Newt Gingrich or Sarah Palin could show me that this Mosque would be a breeding ground of hate then I would fully support their stance on this issue; but all you hear from the and others like Harry Reid is nothing but political talk.  Both Democrats and Republicans are too worried about November elections and gaining support than the equal protection of religious freedom under the Constitution.

This issue has been politicized to the point that Republicans have already announced that they will make this an issue during the November elections; in response Democrats like Harry Reid who are in tight races have distanced themselves from what is right in order to save their jobs!  It’s good to see politicians like Charlie Crist, Mike Bloomberg and yes the President of the United States (Obama) take a stand for what is right.

Some times doing the RIGHT thing means supporting a unpopluar position, over the next couple of days we will see who has the BALLS to do what is right!  I hate to think that political pressure may stop this cultural center aka mosque from being built.  I hope not, I would have a hard time supporting any politician that would fold under the pressure.  That includes President Obama!!!

Say something Tea Party…..

Over the past week we have seen that the NAACP has voted on a declaration asking the Tea Party to denounce the racism that seems to follow their events across the United States. In that declaration the NAACP respected the right of the existence of the Tea party and their core values (fiscal responsibility, and small government). In my opinion the NAACP went out of their way to ensure that they were not saying all Tea Party members are racist but to point out that for the past year there is enough evidence to show there is a disturbing presence at Tea Party rallies.

In response to the NAACP Tea Party backers like Sarah Palin decided to only focus on the idea that Tea Party members are good Americans; Palin and the rest of the Tea party backers time and time again fail to acknowledge what is clearly evident; and now we have the “open letter” from Mark Williams (Tea Party organizer)…

Dear Mr. Lincoln

We Coloreds have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!

In fact we held a big meeting and took a vote in Kansas City this week. We voted to condemn a political revival of that old abolitionist spirit called the ‘tea party movement’.

The tea party position to “end the bailouts” for example is just silly. Bailouts are just big money welfare and isn’t that what we want all Coloreds to strive for? What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bail outs directly to us coloreds! Of course, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is the only responsible party that should be granted the right to disperse the funds.

And the ridiculous idea of “reduce[ing] the size and intrusiveness of government.” What kind of massa would ever not want to control my life? As Coloreds we must have somebody care for us otherwise we would be on our own, have to think for ourselves and make decisions!

The racist tea parties also demand that the government “stop the out of control spending.” Again, they directly target coloreds. That means we Coloreds would have to compete for jobs like everybody else and that is just not right.

Perhaps the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government “stop raising our taxes.” That is outrageous! How will we coloreds ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society?

Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house. Please repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we belong.

Sincerely

Precious Ben Jealous, Tom’s Nephew NAACP Head Colored Person

Mark Williams attempt at comedy is in poor taste and is inappropriate for someone who is suppose to be a major organizer for a group trying to legitimize themselves. Recently Michele Bachmann spoke about her vision of the Tea Party having a caucus in congress that would represent Tea Party interest; you can’t talk about that until you address the deficiencies in that party.

So why does the Tea Party stand-by and say nothing?

In my opinion the Tea Party refuses to call out the racist in their party because they are fearful of alienating any supporters. As a young group their strength is in the number of supporters, if they call out the racist they worry about diminishing their numbers.

It’s time for Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Rand Paul, and Sharron Angle to step up and be real leaders and demand the racism stop. Or else your silence speaks volumes of your overall views!
