Actors, Not NY Mets Players in NIKE Tribute Ad to Derek Jeter

Nike/Jordan Brand will air a tribute ad tonight during the MLB All-Star game for Derek Jeter. In baseball a tip of the cap to the opposing team\player is a sign of respect.

From Red Sox fans, Jon Lester to Spike Lee and Michael Jordan the ad shows the level of respect Jeter has garnered over 20 seasons. And even in this moment of the New York Mets come off as clowns.

For the record I don’t know what’s involved in getting the rights to show players images in a commercial like this, but I have to believe there could have been a better way to handle this. Derek Jeter is ‘The Captain’ of the Yankees and David Wright is ‘The Captain’ of the Mets; it would have been great to see Wright tip his cap to Jeter. Instead we have actors with blurred faces/numbers and a blurred faced Mr Met.

Maybe the Mets had nothing to do with the blurring, but as any Mets’ fan knows this has the Wilpons written all over this.

If there is something to be said, “It’s On Broadway” to step up and say it!!

R.I.P. Ruby Dee (October 27, 1922 – June 11, 2014)

They say death comes in threes, it was only a couple of weeks we lost the great Dr. Maya Angelou and now it saddens me to hear the news that the great actress and civil rights activist Ruby Dee has passed away at the age of 91.  Ruby Dee had a long distinguished career in acting and civil rights, she will be remembered for ‘The Jackie Robinson Story’ (1950), ‘A Raisin in the Sun’ (1961) and many more.  I know I will always remember her in Spike Lee’s ‘Do The Right Thing’ (Mother Sister) and ‘Jungle Fever’.

“Racism destroys self-confidence, it stomps on daring… That’s what is does to our children, it shortens our reach because we begin to believe everything that’s said about us. We buy into it….”  – Ruby Dee

RIP Ruby Dee

Spike Lee Retweets Wrong Address for George Zimmerman

The great thing about Twitter is that it breaks news…

The bad thing about Twitter is that there is A LOT of bad information floating around…

Rumors can snowball into what we want to believe is the truth; and no matter how many times Bill Cosby “dies” on Twitter some how people still retweet as if it’s the gospel. Unfortunately lessons have not been learned… A couple of days ago Spike Lee (@SpikeLee) received a tweet from Marcus Higgins (@MacCapone) that supposedly had the home address of the man who killed Trayvon Martin; George Zimmerman.

Spike Lee took that tweet and decided it was a good idea to retweet it to all of his followers (200K +)!

With all that has gone down with the death of Trayvon Martin; this is no way to promote justice and Spike Lee should know better.  Last year Sarah Palin was criticized for bulls-eye targets and since the rise of the Tea Party their rhetoric has been thought of hate speech.  So why would Lee think it is a good idea in a racial charge environment to give out the address of the man in the middle of the controversy?

The only answer I could come up with is stupidity!

But that would not be the last of Lee’s stupidity as it was revealed that the address Lee retweeted was the address of an elderly couple and not Martin’s killer Zimmerman; since the now infamous retweet the couple has lived in fear.

With crazy people like The New Black Panther Party offering a bounty for Zimmerman’s capture, no good can come from the publicizing Zimmerman’s address.  Spike Lee should be a shamed of himself and an apology via twitter is not enough

“I Deeply Apologize To The McClain Family For Retweeting Their Address. It Was A Mistake. Please Leave The McClain’s In Peace.” – Spike Lee

I think Dana Loesch said it best in one of her tweets, Spike Lee needs to #DoTheRightThing

F-A-Natic Fridays – Doin’ the Landry

Landry Fields

HAHA, there is nothing better than NYC when you are winning.  This is especially true when it comes to the Knicks, New Yorkers love the their Knicks and we love players that work hard.

And in NY the admiration can come in many forms, fans giving you a standing ovation in Garden, Spike Lee wearing your jersey front row at home and away games during your rookie season,

You can have a rap song made about you

Not bad MC Jin, pretty sure Landry Fields will think that is pretty cool.

F-A-Natic Fridays – Congrats to Ray Allen!!

Thursday night (2/10/2011) Ray Allen aka Jesus Shuttlesworth became the All-Time NBA Leader in 3 pointers made (2,560).  He passed NBA great Reggie Miller in the 1st quarter against the LA Lakers; it’s a great accomplishment for a future Hall Of Famer.  Being a fan and Alum of Syracuse I know all too well the exploits of the great UConn player Ray Ray… as it seems like he has been hitting 3 pointers forever.

As a fan of the Cuse and the New York Knicks (2 teams Ray has killed over the years) I say Congratulations to Ray Allen!!
