Panthers’ Fan Responds to Mom Upset with Cam Newton’s Dance

As discussed in an earlier post a Tennessee Mom was upset with Cam Newton celebration after a TD.

The mom, Rosemary Plorin was so upset she had to write a letter of disappointment calling Cam’s character into question.

In response to Mrs Plorin, a Panther’s fan penned his own letter

Dear Mrs. Plorin,

I’m sorry your daughter was unsatisfied by her first live NFL experience. I agree that the behavior of fans at times can be unsuitable for children, which is a shame. I forget this sometimes myself and allow the moment to get the better of me.

That said, I believe you are mistaken about Cam Newton. First, I’m having trouble understanding why his dancing offended you and your daughter but that of the cheerleaders was OK?

I’m sorry that you had such trouble explaining Cam’s dancing to your child. Football is a tough game and scoring touchdowns is really hard in the NFL. So, when a player scores, a little elation and celebration is justified. The NFL is also purely entertainment. You should look elsewhere for role models for your daughter. Sorry, but that’s the truth.

Cam knows he is a role model to thousands of kids, and he plays that role pretty well. Perhaps you didn’t notice his tradition of handing scored footballs to children? Or, you chose to leave that out of your letter because it was contrary to your argument. The face on those children emits pure joy. That’s because of Cam Newton.

You don’t live in Charlotte so I’ll forgive your lack of knowledge about Cam’s off-field work and I’d like to enlighten you here. In early October, the neighbors of a young boy suffering from terminal cancer threw him a Halloween block party because doctors weren’t sure he’d make it to the end of the month. The young boy was a huge Auburn and Panther fan. Cam heard this and showed up with an ice cream truck and spent hours with the boy. No press, no cameras, just Cam being Cam.

Finally, I’d like to tell you about my role model. My role model is 6-year-old Braylon Beam. He also suffers from cancer. But instead of feeling sorry for himself, he has decided to fight the horrors of cancer with dancing. He’s danced on Ellen. He’s danced at Panthers games. He’s danced with his idol, Cam Newton, when he was made honorary coach this season. I’m not arguing that Cam is perfect, who is? But if Cam’s dancing is good enough for Braylon, then it’s good enough for me.

Nuff said!

As always….

If there is something to be said, “It’s On Broadway” to step up and say it!!
